ETIQUETTE FOR FRIDAY

It is recommended that:

one cleans his body, performs Ghusl, wears his best clothes, applies perfume and  uses Siwak (tooth stick) for Jumu'ah.

We mentioned that Abu Sa'id narrated that the Messenger of ALLĀH said,

"Ghusl on the day of Jumu'ah is Wajib (required) from every Muhtalim and also using Siwak and applying some of his household's perfume."

Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari said that he heard the Messenger of ALLĀH say,

"Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday and applies perfume, if he has any, wears his best clothes, then goes to the Masjid and performs voluntary prayer, if he wishes, does not bother anyone, listens when the Imam appears until he starts the prayer. Then all of this will be an expiation for whatever occurs between that Friday and the next Friday."

Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah recorded in their Sunans that Abdullah bin Salam said that he heard the Messenger of ALLĀH say, while on the Minbar:

"What harm would it cause if one of you bought two garments for the day of Jumu'ah, other than the garment he wears daily?"

A'ishah said that during a speech he gave on a Friday when he saw people wearing Nimar garments, the Messenger of ALLĀH said,

"When one of you has wealth, he should keep two garments for Friday, other than the two garments he has for his daily wear."

Ibn Majah collected this Hadith.

SPECIFYING THE NIGHT OF DECREE AND ITS SIGNS (2/2)

It has also been said that it occurs on the twenty-seventh night because of what Muslim recorded in his Sahih from Ubay bin Ka`b that the Messenger of Allah mentioned that it was on the twenty-seventh night.

Imam Ahmad recorded from Zirr that he asked Ubayy bin Ka'b,

"O Abu Al-Mundhir! Verily, your brother Ibn Mas'ud says whoever stands for prayer (at night) the entire year, will catch the Night of Al-Qadr."

He (Ubayy) said, "May ALLĀH have mercy upon him. Indeed he knows that it is during the month of Ramadān and that it is the twenty-seventh night."

Then he swore by ALLĀH.

Zirr then said, "How do you know that"

Ubayy replied, By a sign or an indication that he (the Prophet) informed us of. It rises that next day having no rays on it -- meaning the sun."

Muslim has also recorded it. It has been said that it is the night of the twenty-ninth.

Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal recorded from 'Ubadah bin As-Samit that he asked the Messenger of ALLĀH about the Night of Decree and he replied,

"Seek it in Ramadān in the last ten nights.

For verily, it is during the odd nights, the twenty-first, or the twenty-third, or the twenty-fifth, or the twenty-seventh, or the twenty-ninth, or during the last night."

Imam Ahmad also recorded from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of ALLĀH said about the Night of Al-Qadr,

"Verily, it is during the twenty-seventh or the twenty-ninth night.

And verily, the angels who are on the earth during that night are more numerous than the number of pebbles."

Ahmad was alone in recording this Hadith and there is nothing wrong with its chain of narration.

At-Tirmidhi recorded from Abu Qilabah that he said,

"The Night of Al-Qadr moves around (i.e., from year to year) throughout the last ten nights."

This view that At-Tirmidhi mentions from Abu Qilabah has also been recorded by Malik, Ath-Thawri, Ahmad bin Hanbal, Ishaq bin Rahuyah, Abu Thawr, Al-Muzani, Abu Bakr bin Khuzaymah and others.

It has also been related from Ash-Shafi'i, and Al-Qadi reported it from him, and this is most likely.

And ALLĀH knows best.

SUPPLICATING FOR OTHERS IN THEIR ABSENCE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MEANS TO GETTING DU'A ACCEPTED

As Muslims, one of the powerful methods to ensure that our supplications are answered by ALLĀH is to include and remember others in our du'a. This supplication not only benefits the person being supplicated for but also the person who makes the supplication for them in their absence. Supplicating to ALLĀH on behalf of others in their absence has been mentioned in many authentic ahādith, and it holds numerous virtues.

Umm Darda' (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) reported: My husband reported that he heard ALLĀH'S Messenger ﷺ as saying: "He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned ˹for carrying supplication to his Lord˺ says: Aamīn, and for you be the like." {Muslim 2732}

Sheikh Abu Bakr at-Turtushee (may ALLĀH have mercy on him ) said regarding the hadith: "This hadith procures a tremendous point of benefit; because if you are answered in regard to your brother because he is absent from you, then we hope that the Angel will also be answered in regard to you – because you are absent from him." {Ad-Du’aa al-Ma'thoor wa Adābuhu || Page 34}

Sheikh Ibn Baz (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Therefore if you say: 'O ALLĀH; forgive so and so, O ALLĀH; rectify his heart and his action, O ALLĀH; make his affairs easy for him, O ALLĀH; grant him righteous offspring, a righteous wife, beneficial knowledge.’ You supplicate for your brother with that which you see to be appropriate, and the appointed Angel says: 'Aamīn – and for you be the like of it.'

This, in reality, is something which only occurs from those of sound hearts and are desirous of good, loving good, for indeed it signifies on account of these issues that which is in their hearts from mildness and love and longing for that which is with ALLĀH and sincere counsel towards the servants of ALLĀH. So he supplicates for himself, and supplicates for his Muslim brothers." {Sharḥ Riyādhus-Saliḥīn of Sheikh bin Bāz || no. 469}

Therefore, during this blessed month, we should increase the chances of getting our supplications answered by supplicating it like for our brothers and sisters, young, old, sick, oppressed, orphaned, those who have passed away, those looking for jobs, those in debt, those expecting baby, those who are not married, and those seeking kids.

Imam an-Nawawī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Some of the Salaf, if one of them intended to supplicate for himself; then he would supplicate for his Muslim brother with that supplication, because it is answered, and he attains the like of that." {Sharh Sahih Muslim Vol. 17 Page 51}

This has been the way of the believers, they supplicate for one another, generation after generation, whether they are contemporaries or are from those that come after them, they supplicate for one another – desiring by way of that good for themselves and for their brothers in faith. ALLĀH said:

And those who came after them say: “Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who preceded us in faith, and put not in our hearts any resentment against those who have believed. Our Lord! YOU are indeed Compassionate and Kind, Merciful."
{Al-Hashr || Verse 10}

RAMADĀN IS SET TO MOVE ON!

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"O Servants of ALLĀH! Ramadān is set to move on, and only a little of it remains. If anyone has done well during the month thus far, it is incumbent on him to complete the month in a good fashion. While anyone who has fallen short let him finish in good shape. Only a few days and nights remain, so bid it farewell with righteous actions that will testify for you before the All-Knowing King. See it off by parting with it with the purest greeting of peace."

📖 Lataif al-Ma’arif || Page 216

NOTES:

- Reflect on your actions, seek forgiveness, and renew your commitment to ALLĀH.

- Dedicate more time to prayer, including voluntary prayers, and engage in frequent remembrance of ALLĀH.

- Deeds are judged by their endings; never lose hope in ALLĀH even if you have not taken advantage of the past days.

- Recognize and appreciate past good deeds but avoid complacency. Aim for excellence consistently throughout Ramadān.

- Work towards the ultimate goal of Paradise, rather than just focusing on ending the month of Ramadān.

Indeed, WE sent it (i.e., the Qur’ān) down during the Night of Al-Qadr (Decree).

And what will make you know what the Night of Al-Qadr is?

The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping ALLĀH in that night is better than worshipping HIM a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

Therein descend the angels and the Ruh (i.e., Gabriel) by their Lord's permission with every ˹decreed˺ matter.

˹All that night˺, there is Peace (and Goodness from ALLĀH to HIS believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn.

AlBaseerah

Amongst the nights of Ramadān, there is one called ‘Laylatul Qadr’, a night that is noted for its great blessings. The Qur'ān describes it as being greater in blessings and spiritual virtue than a thousand months, which in turn means that it is more valuable than eighty three years and four months. Fortunate indeed is that person who attains the full blessings of this night by spending it in the worship of ALLĀH, because he has then attained the reward of worship for 83 years, 4 months and even more.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whosoever stands in worship on this night, with sincere faith and with genuine hopes of gaining reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." {Bukhari #1901}

Ibn Rajab used to say: "O you who has wasted the years of his life, there is nothing that will amend those lost and wasted years except for the night of Al-Qadr, for verily its value is equivalent to that of a lifetime." {Lata'if al-Ma'ārif || Page 191}

May ALLĀH bless us with the night of Decree.

🌙 AL-I'TIKĀF

Ibn 'Umar narrated: "ALLAH'S Messenger ﷺ used to make i'tikāf in the last ten during Ramadān." {Bukhari #2025 and Muslim #1171}

The hadith is evidence for the virtue of i'tikäf and sticking to the masajid especially in the last ten of Ramadān because he used to make i'tikāf in the last ten of Ramadān until ALLĀH caused him to pass. And whatever the Messenger did as an act of obedience and seeking nearness (to ALLĀH), then it is recommended for us.

I'tikāf is not correct unless it is done in a masjid that holds congregational prayers, even if Salat-ul-Jumu'ah takes place during his i'tikaf. In fact, if it is easy to make i'tikāf in a masjid that holds Jumu'ah then this is safer, because there are those from the people of knowledge who make that a condition.

The mu'takif (one making i'tikāf) enters ˹the masjid˺ before the setting of the sun on the twenty-first night - according to the majority of people of knowledge. This is due to the hadith of Abu Sa'id narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:  "Whoever is making i'tikäf with me, let him do it in the last ten..." {al-Bukhari #2018 and Muslim #1167}

What supports this is that one of the aims of i'tikāf is to seek the Night of Decree which is hoped for in the odd nights of the last ten, and the first of these nights is the twenty-first.

I'tikāf in the masjid during the last ten has tremendous benefits. It is a temporary isolation from the affairs of life and the preoccupations of this world, and a complete turning to ALLĀH, the Most High.

Since the mu'takif is occupied exclusively in the worship of ALLĀH, the Most High, in one of HIS houses, he is prevented from embracing (his wives), having sexual intercourse, kissing or anything like that. Similarly, the mu'takif is prohibited from leaving (the masjid) except for inevitable needs of a human, such as a bath if he becomes sexually impure due to a wet dream or to urinate or defecate if a bathroom is not present in the masjid where he can relieve himself or bathe. He can also go out to bring his food if there is no one to bring it to him.

'A'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) said: "ALLAH'S Messenger did not enter the house except for a need when he was a mu'takif."

And in another narration: "except for the need of the human being."

As for his leaving for acts of obedience which are not obligatory on him - such as visiting the sick or witnessing a funeral and the likes - then he does not do so, unless he made that a condition at the beginning of his i'tikaf - according to one of the two opinions. And ALLĀH knows best.

The mu'takif should realize the wisdom of i'tikāf, so he spends his time in şalah, reciting the Noble Qur'an and words of remembrance. He should benefit from his time. He can seek knowledge and read books of or Tawhid, tafsir, hadith and other beneficial books. There is no problem if he speaks a little regarding what is permissible with his family someone else if there is a benefit. This is due to the hadith of Şafiyyah who said:

"The Prophet was a mu'takif. I went to visit him at night. I talked with him then I stood up to return (home) so he went with me..." And ALLĀH knows best.

RAMADĀN REFLECTIONS: DAY 1⃣8⃣

TOOLS TO NAVIGATE LIFE'S DIFFICULTIES

To navigate life's difficulties, a person needs more than physical strength—emotional and spiritual resilience are essential. When faced with challenges beyond one's ability, turning to the One who controls all affairs brings comfort and hope. Helplessness is replaced with hope and trust, and overwhelming problems become manageable.

The Qur'ān highlights two key pillars of support: prayer, which strengthens the soul by deepening one's connection with ALLĀH, and patience, which builds self-control and resilience. Many scholars of Tafsir interpret patience in this verse as fasting, a practice that cultivates discipline and endurance.

These two acts serve as powerful tools in overcoming hardships. They energize the soul, enabling one to take the necessary steps to improve a situation or, when change is not possible, to accept it with peace—free from bitterness and resentment.

STRIVE TO BE GENEROUS, EVEN WITH HALF A DATE

The Imam of our masjid earns less than a 100k. (I know because we had discussions about it)

He is married with a child and our area is just a keke away from Ikeja, so he is not living in a rural area. Yet, every night, he feeds people at the masjid.

Tonight it is jollof spaghetti and zobo WITHOUT meat. Yesternight it was Akara and Ogi. I think some nights were just Ogi; but every night, he feeds.

You see, a lot of us who do not spend now, when we start earning 1 million, we will still not "have enough" to spend.

For the remaining 16 days of Ramadhan, how about you try to take 0.5% of whatever you have in your account as sodaqah everyday? Even if it amounts to just 200 Naira. It's a life-saver for someone; and that person could be you - in your grave.

Many of us will not do this. Allah has put our poverty inbetween our two eyes because our fear of it is more than our hope in Allah.

THE TWENTY-SEVENTH NIGHT IS HIGHLY PROBABLE TO BE LAYLATUL-QADR.

Ibn 'Umar (may ALLĀH be pleased with them) said: 'The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to tell him their dreams that (Laylatul-Qadr) was on the 27th of the month of Ramadān.' The Prophet ﷺ said, "I see that your dreams agree on the last ten nights of Ramadān and so whoever is in search of it should seek it in the last ten nights of Ramadān." {Al-Bukhari #1156}

Sheikh al-Albānī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "It is on the twenty-seventh night of Ramadān according to the strongest opinion. A majority of the ahādīth comply with this, including the hadīth of Zurr Ibn Hubaysh who said:

"I heard Ubay Bin Ka'ab (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) say when it was said to him that ‘Abdullāh Ibn Mas'ūd (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) said: "Whoever performs the night prayer (every night) throughout the year will achieve the Night of Al-Qadr."

He (Ubay Bin Ka'ab) said: "May ALLĀH have mercy on him, his intention was that the people not (grow lazy) and depend solely (on just one night). By the One of whom there is no deity worthy of worship beside HIM, it is indeed in Ramadān. And by ALLĀH I know on which night it is. It is on the night that ALLĀH’s Messenger ﷺ commanded us to perform the Night Prayer. It is on the twenty-seventh night. Its sign is that the sun rises on its following morning bright with no rays." {Muslim #762}

In one report this is raised to being a saying of the Prophet ﷺ {Sahih Abī Dawūd #1378}

📚Qiyām Ramadān  || Page 18-19

Shaikhul-Islām Ibn Taimiyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "...And it occurs more frequently in the last seven; and it occurs most frequently on the twenty-seventh, just as Ubayy ibn Kab used to swear an oath that it was the twenty-seventh night. So it was said to him: "How have you come to know that?" So he replied: "On account of the sign which ALLĀH's Messenger ﷺ informed us of. He informed us that the sun rises on the morning following it being like a brass dish, having no rays." {Muslim #762}

"So this sign which Ubayy ibn Kab reported from the Prophet ﷺ is from the most well known signs occurring in hadīth; and it is related regarding its signs that it is a night that is "bright, shining"; and it is calm; it is not very hot, nor very cold. It may occur that ALLĀH reveals it to some of the people in a dream, or whilst awake, such that he sees its light, or he sees one who says to him: "This is Laylatul-Qadr"; or he may open his heart to witnessing such things that make the affair clear to him, and ALLĀH -the Most High- knows best."

📚 Majmū'l-Fatāwā || 25/284-286

Translation: Abū Talhah Daawūd ibn Ronald Burbank (may ALLĀH have mercy on him)

As the end of Ramadān approaches, this night gives us the valuable opportunity to redeem ourselves through prayer, reflection, seeking pardon and forgiveness, and increased worship. On this blessed night, let us tighten our waist belts as the beloved Prophet ﷺ did and collect the infinite blessings that await.

THE WISDOM BEHIND NOT KNOWING WHICH EXACT NIGHT LAYLATUL-QADR FALLS UPON

Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Some of the people of knowledge said:
ALLĀH The Most High made this night unapparent (obscure) upon the Ummah in order that they should strive hard in seeking after it; and that they should find aspiration in worship when seeking to attain it.

Just as HE made the hour in which the supplication is answered on a Friday as unapparent – in order that they should be plentiful in making supplication throughout the day.

Just as HE has made HIS Greatest Name unapparent from amongst HIS Names; and HIS Pleasure in varying forms of obedience – in order that they should strive hard in all of them.

Likewise HE has made death and the establishment of The Hour as unapparent – in order that the people should earnestly endeavor in performing actions – out of caution from them both."

THE DESCENT OF THE ANGELS AND THE DECREE FOR EVERY GOOD DURING THE NIGHT OF AL-QADR

ALLĀH says,

تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَيِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ
Therein (Night of al-Qadr) the angels and the Ruh by their Lord's permission with every matter.

meaning, the angels descend in abundance during the Night of Al-Qadr due to its abundant blessings. The angels descend with the descending of blessings and mercy, just as they descend when the Qur'ān is recited, they surround the circles of Dhikr (remembrance of ALLĀH) and they lower their wings with true respect for the student of knowledge.

In reference to Ar-Ruh, it is said that here it means the angel Jibril. Therefore, the wording of the Ayah is a method of adding the name of the distinct object (in this case Jibril) separate from the general group (in this case the angels).

Concerning ALLĀH's statement,

مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ
with every matter

Mujahid said, "Peace concerning every matter."

Sa'id bin Mansur said, Isa bin Yunus told us that Al-Amash narrated to them that Mujahid said concerning ALLĀH's statement,
سَلَـمٌ هِىَ
There is peace,

"It is security in which Shaytan cannot do any evil or any harm."

Qatadah and others have said,

"The matters are determined during it, and the times of death and provisions are measured out (i.e., decided) during it."

ALLĀH says,

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
Therein is decreed every matter of decree.
(44:4)

Then ALLĀH says,

سَلَمٌ هِيَ حَتَّى مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ
There is peace until the appearance of dawn.

Sa'id bin Mansur said, "Hushaym narrated to us on the authority of Abu Ishaq, who narrated that Ash-Sha'bi said concerning ALLĀH's statement,

Therein descend the angels and the Ruh by their Lord's permission with every matter, there is a peace until the appearance of dawn.

'The angels giving the greetings of peace during the Night of Al-Qadr to the people in the Masjids until the coming of Fajr (dawn)."'

Qatadah and Ibn Zayd both said concerning ALLĀH's statement,

سَلَـمٌ هِىَ
There is peace,

"This means all of it is good and there is no evil in it until the coming of Fajr (dawn)."

THE VIRTUES OF THE NIGHT OF AL-QADR

Shaikh 'Abdur-Rahmān as-Sa'di (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Due to its virtue it is equivalent to a thousand months, therefore the action carried out within it is better than the action of a thousand months which is devoid of it (the night). This is from that which has baffled the minds, and the intellects are astonished at it, in that HE, The Blessed and Most High has granted favour upon this weak Ummah (nation) with strength and potency – with a night in which the action within it is in equivalence and in excess of that of a thousand months – the lifetime of a long-lived man who had a long life in excess of eighty years."

{Taysīr al-Karīm ar-Rahmān || Page 931}

Shaikh 'Abdur-Rahmān as-Sa’dī said likewise: "Know that it is from the wisdom of ALLĀH and HIS Mercy for you that HE has hidden from you its concealment, in order that you should be plentiful in action which draws nearness to HIM, and that you should attain ample reward and find favour with HIM.

Indeed; whoever proficiently refines his intention and his purpose, and thus seeks it in anticipation ˹of reward˺, then it is a must that he is procured from its goodness. Since there is no believing man or believing woman except that they have a share from its grants and its benefaction – in accordance to one’s circumstance.

Therefore ALLĀH did not grant favour upon this Ummah with it except to give them from its comprehensive virtue, nor did HE call them to perseverance in obedience except to elevate their ranks in gardens of delight. Hence; if the servant were to know of some of what is in it by way of reward; then he would strive hard in pursuit of it, and if his heart were to become busied over that which is in it from the secrets and the affairs of acquaintance; then he would find the hardship in exertion after it to be sweet.

A night in which the hearts are upon humility, and in which The Lord grants bountifully to HIS servants every good and what is requested, in it every servant who turns ˹to ALLĀH˺ devotes himself to The Lord, and takes from his Lord a more abounding share and a most complete portion. In it the sins and misdeeds are forgiven, and written down is all that is sanctioned for the servant in his year by way of good and bad, and obedience and misdeeds."

THE SUPPLICATION FOR LAYLATUL QADR

Laylatul Qadr is one of the most special nights of the year, as it is the night in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed and is described in the Qur’an as being "better than a thousand months." As Muslims, we spend the night in worship, which includes reading the Qur’an, performing supererogatory prayers, and reciting the best duas for Laylatul Qadr.

The most beautiful dua to make on Laylatul Qadr can be found in a well-known hadith reported on the authority of 'Aaishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) who said, I said: "O Messenger of ALLĀH! What if I knew which night Laylatul Qadr was, what should I say in it?” The Prophet ﷺ said: "You should say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allāhumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee

O ALLĀH; YOU are the One Who pardons greatly; and YOU love to pardon; so pardon me.

{
At-Tirmidhi #3513}

Ibn Rajab (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Al-‘Afuww (The One Who pardons greatly) is from the Names of ALLĀH, the Most High; and HE overlooks the wrongdoings of HIS servants, HE is the One Who erases their trace from them. HE Loves to pardon; and so HE Loves to pardon HIS servants, HE likewise Loves from HIS servants that they should pardon each other, so if they pardon each other; HE conducts HIS pardon with them; and HIS Pardon is more beloved to HIM than HIS Punishment." {Lataa-if wal-Ma’aarif || Page 279}

Imām An-Nawawī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Our companions have stated that it is recommended that one be plentiful in making this supplication, and it is recommended to recite the Qur’ān as well as making the other invocations. It is recommended that one is plentiful within it in making supplications for the important matters pertaining to the Muslims, for this is the distinctive sign of the righteous, and the well-acquainted servants of ALLĀH." {Al-Adhkār || Page 229 (abridged)}

We ask ALLĀH to make us of those who will witness Laylatul Qadr and attain its benefits.

EVERY MATTER IS DECREED ON LAYLATUL-QADR

ALLAH stated:

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ
Verily, WE sent it (i.e., the Qur'an) down on a blessed night.

That is, one in which there was much good and barakah (blessing), namely Laylatul-Qadr, which is better than a thousand months. Thus HE sent down the best of words on the best of nights and days, to the best of people, in the language of the noble Arabs, to warn thereby people who were enveloped in ignorance and overcome with wretchedness, so that they might find enlightenment and be guided by it, and follow it, thus attaining a great deal of good in this world and in the hereafter. Hence ALLĀH says:
إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ
Verily, WE are ever warning.

فِيهَا
On that night

namely the blessed night on which the Qur’an was revealed

يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
All matters are decided on the basis of wisdom

That is, all matters are distinguished and clarified, and every issue of the divine decree and religious decree is recorded as ALLĀH decides.

This recording and clarification that take place on Laylatul-Qadr is one example of the writing that will take place and be clarified, and it will be identical to what is written in al-Lawh al-Mahfoodh, in which ALLĀH has decreed the affairs of all creatures and their lifespan, provision, deeds and circumstances.

Moreover, ALLĀH has appointed angels to write down what will happen to a person when he is in his mother’s womb, then, after he comes to this world, HE appoints noble scribes to write down and record his deeds, then on Laylatul-Qadr HE decrees what is to happen for the coming year.

All this is part of ALLAH’s perfect knowledge, wisdom and care for HIS creation.

أَمۡرًا مِّنۡ عِندِنَآۚ
By OUR command

That is, this wise command is something that comes from US.

STRIVING IN THE LAST TEN OF RAMADĀN

'Ā'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) narrated: "The Prophet ﷺ when the last ten entered, would enliven the night, awaken his family, strive earnestly and tighten his waste garment." {Agreed upon}

In another narration in Muslim: "ALLĀH'S Messenger ﷺ would strive in the last ten in a manner he did not strive in other than them." {Al-Bukhari #2024 and Muslim #1174}

The hadith is evidence that the last ten of Ramadān have a distinction over other than them; with an increase in acts of obedience and acts of worship such as şalāh, remembrance and recitation of the Qur'an.

The Mother of the Believers, 'A'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her), described our Prophet and our example - Muhammad - with four characteristics:

1⃣. Her saying: "he would enliven the night" which means: he stayed up all night, enlivening it with acts of obedience, and enlivening himself by staying up all night in them. This is because sleep is the brother of death. The meaning is: he enlivened the night by standing in it (for salah) and devotion to ALLĀH, the Lord of all creation.

Regarding the prohibition of standing (in salah) the whole night - as has come in the hadith of 'Abdullah ibn Umar (may ALLĀH be pleased with them), then that is interpreted to mean: doing so continuously, every night of the year. {Majmū' al-Fatāwā, 22/308}

It also could be that it means he enlivened most of the night. That is supported by the saying of 'A'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her): "I have never seen ALLAH'S Messenger ﷺ stand the whole night (in salāh) until the morning." {Muslim #746 and #141}

2⃣. Her saying: "awaken his family," which means: his pure wives, the Mothers of the Believers so that they may share with him in taking advantage of the good and the remembrance (of ALLĀH) and acts of worship in these blessed times.

3⃣. Her saying: "strive earnestly," which means: he strove to do acts of worship above what he did in the first twenty; and that is because the Night of Decree is in the last ten.

4⃣. Her saying: "tighten his waste garment," which means: he strove and labored in acts of worship. It is also said that it means: he kept away from his wives, and this is more apparent due to its attachment to what was before it. And he ﷺ used to make i'itikāf in the last ten, and the mu'takif is prohibited from his wives.

Truly, these ten are the seal of the month, and actions are according to their conclusions. Perhaps a person catches the Night of Decree while he is standing before the Lord of all creation, so his past sins will be forgiven. Therefore, the Muslim should increase in his worship when his month starts to decrease, and beautify himself with patience in performing acts of obedience. Actions are judged by the last of them.

THE BLESSINGS OF ALLĀH ARE COUNTLESS

ALLĀH said

وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحۡصُوهَآۗ
And if you count the Blessings of ALLĀH, never will you be able to count them.

let alone give thanks for them all.

إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَظَلُومٌ كَفَّارٌ
Verily man is highly unjust, exceedingly ungrateful

That is, this is the nature of man with regard to the fact that he is a wrongdoer and sinner, who falls short in his duty towards his Lord and is ungrateful for the blessings of ALLĀH; he does not give thanks for them or acknowledge them, except those whom ALLĀH guides, so they give thanks for HIS blessings, acknowledge the rights of their Lord and fulfil those rights.

These blessings highlight various types of the many blessings that ALLĀH bestows upon HIS slaves, some in general terms and some in specific terms, because of which ALLĀH calls HIS slaves to give thanks to HIM and remember HIM. HE urges them to do so and encourages them to ask of HIM and call upon HIM during the hours of the night and day, just as HIS blessings are repeatedly bestowed upon them at all times.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

In Sahih Al-Bukhari it is recorded that the Messenger of ALLĀH used to supplicate;

"O ALLĀH! All praise is due to YOU, without being able to sufficiently thank YOU, nor ever wish to be cutoff from YOU, nor ever feeling rich from relying on YOU; our Lord!"

It was reported that Prophet Dawud, peace be upon him, used to say in his supplication,

"O Lord! How can I ever duly thank YOU, when my thanking YOU is also a favor from YOU to me"

ALLĀH the Exalted answered him, "Now, you have thanked ME sufficiently, O Dawud,"

meaning, 'when you admitted that you will never be able to duly thank ME.'

THE DAYS OF SPECIAL BOOTY

O fasting people, this month is our opportunity for sincere repentance. These days are booty for us. Will we not then accept this price and special opportunity? Take the initiative with sincere repentance before your spirit is taken away. Do not take lightly any sin because your final deeds will also be judged. Many people fasted with us last year and have since departed to their Lord. Does not the authority belong to HIM? And, is HE not the swiftest of those who judge? Yes, they all went with their deeds and left behind their traces.

📖 Thirty Lessons For Those Who Fast || Page 76

- Use these days to reflect on past actions and seek forgiveness from ALLĀH.

- Make the most of these special days by engaging in acts of worship and seeking closeness to ALLĀH.
