SUPPLICATION DURING THE NIGHT OF DECREE

It is recommended to supplicate often during all times, especially during the month of Ramadān, in the last ten nights, and during the odd nights of it even more so. It is recommended that one say the following supplication a lot:

"O ALLĀH! Verily, YOU are the Oft-Pardoning, YOU love to pardon, so pardon me."

This is due to what Imam Ahmad recorded from 'A'ishah, that she said,

"O Messenger of ALLĀH! If I find the Night of Al-Qadr what should I say"

He replied, "Say:

'اللْهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allāhumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwā fa'fu annī (O ALLĀH! Verily, YOU are the Oft-Pardoning, YOU love to pardon, so pardon me.)'"

At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah have all recorded this Hadith.

At-Tirmidhi said, "This Hadith is Hasan Sahih."

The search for the Night of Qadr has begun!

A night unlike any other. A night where destinies are decreed, sins are wiped clean, and a sincere dua can change everything. This is the moment to pour your heart out to ALLĀH, to seek HIS mercy, and to ask for all that you hope for.

SUPPLICATING FOR OTHERS IN THEIR ABSENCE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MEANS TO GETTING DU'A ACCEPTED

No doubt, the greatest aim of every supplicant is to have their du'as accepted. As Muslims, one of the powerful methods to ensure that our supplications are answered by ALLĀH is to include and remember others in our du'a. This supplication not only benefits the person being supplicated for but also the person who makes the supplication for them in their absence. Supplicating to ALLĀH on behalf of others in their absence has been mentioned in many authentic ahādith, and it holds numerous virtues.

Umm Darda' (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) reported: My husband reported that he heard ALLĀH'S Messenger ﷺ as saying: "He who supplicates for his brother behind his back (in his absence), the Angel commissioned ˹for carrying supplication to his Lord˺ says: Aamīn, and for you be the like." {Muslim 2732}

Sheikh Abu Bakr at-Turtushee (may ALLĀH have mercy on him ) said regarding the hadith: "This hadith procures a tremendous point of benefit; because if you are answered in regard to your brother because he is absent from you, then we hope that the Angel will also be answered in regard to you – because you are absent from him." {Ad-Du'aa al-Ma'thoor wa Adābuhu || Page 34}

Sheikh Ibn Baz (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Therefore if you say: 'O ALLĀH; forgive so and so, O ALLĀH; rectify his heart and his action, O ALLĀH; make his affairs easy for him, O ALLĀH; grant him righteous offspring, a righteous wife, beneficial knowledge.' You supplicate for your brother with that which you see to be appropriate, and the appointed Angel says: 'Aamīn – and for you be the like of it.'

This, in reality, is something which only occurs from those of sound hearts and are desirous of good, loving good, for indeed it signifies on account of these issues that which is in their hearts from mildness and love and longing for that which is with ALLĀH and sincere counsel towards the servants of ALLĀH. So he supplicates for himself, and supplicates for his Muslim brothers." {Sharḥ Riyādhus-Saliḥīn of Sheikh bin Bāz #469}

During this blessed month, we should increase the chances of getting our supplications answered by supplicating it like for our brothers and sisters, young, old, sick, oppressed, orphaned, those who have passed away, those looking for jobs, those in debt, those expecting baby, those who are not married, and those seeking kids.

This has been the way of the believers, they supplicate for one another, generation after generation, whether they are contemporaries or are from those that come after them, they supplicate for one another – desiring by way of that good for themselves and for their brothers in faith. ALLĀH said:

And those who came after them say: “Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who preceded us in faith, and put not in our hearts any resentment against those who have believed. Our Lord! YOU are indeed Compassionate and Kind, Merciful."
{Al-Hashr || Verse 10}

Imam an-Nawawī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Some of the Salaf, if one of them intended to supplicate for himself; then he would supplicate for his Muslim brother with that supplication, because it is answered, and he attains the like of that." {Sharh Sahih Muslim (17/51)}

We ask ALLĀH to accept our supplications and bring relief to Muslims around the world.

AN ANALYSIS OF HOW TAQWĀ IS ATTAINED THROUGH FASTING

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"And what splendor amplifies the magnificence of this worship which is such that it:

• Breaks the desire.

• And restrains the soul.

• And gives life to the heart and gives it delight.

• And furnishes abstinence in the life of this world – and of its alluring desires.

• And causes it to ardently yearn for that which is to be found with ALLĀH.

• Likewise that it causes the rich to reflect upon the circumstance of the needy and of their situation and so they take a portion of their way of life. So their hearts feel compassion for them and they come to know of that which they themselves are engaged in by way of the favours of ALLĀH – and so they increase in giving thanks to HIM.

So in general, the facility of attaining Taqwa of ALLĀH by way of fasting is an affair that is well known. Hence no one is aided in having Taqwa of ALLĀH and in guarding HIS set boundaries and abstaining from things HE made forbidden than through the like of fasting. For it is testament to the One that legislated it and commanded with it in that HE is indeed the Most Just of judges and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy."

EVERY LOCALE FOLLOWS THEIR OWN MOON SIGHTING

Kurayb repoted: I came to Syria and tended to my needs. The crescent of Ramadān appeared over me while I was in Syria and I saw it on Friday, then I came to Medina at the end of the month. Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) asked me about it and I mentioned the crescent. Ibn Abbas said, “When did you see it?”

I said, “We saw it on Friday night.”

Ibn Abbas said, “You saw it?”

I said, “Yes, people saw it and they fasted, as did Mu’awiyah.”

Ibn Abbas said, “But we saw it on Saturday night, so we will continue fasting until we complete thirty days or we see it.”

I said, “Is it not enough that Mu’awiyah saw it and he fasted?”

Ibn Abbas said, “No, such was the command of the Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ.”

{Sahih Muslim #1087}

Al-Tirmidhi said, “The people of knowledge act upon this tradition, that the people of every land have their own moon sighting.”

{Sunan al-Tirmidhi‌ #693}

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) was asked about those who call for the ummah to be united in fasting and for the moon sighting to be based on its sighting in Makkah. He said (at the conclusion of his words):

"... the evidence of both the texts and science indicates that we should establish a separate ruling for each place when it comes to starting and ending the fast, and this should be connected to the physical sign which ALLĀH has described in HIS Book and which HIS Prophet Muhammad ﷺ established in his Sunnah, namely the sighting of the moon and the sighting of the sun or dawn."

BENEFIT 61: THE NUMBER OF RAK'AH IN TARAWĪH PRAYER

The Sheikh, Abū Mālik mentioned in Ṣaḥīḥ Fiqh as-Sunnah the various scholarly opinions on the number of rak'ah in tarawīh, namely:

• Eleven rak'ahs.
• Twenty rak'ahs, excluding witr.
• Thirty-nine rak'ahs, including witr.
• Forty rak'ahs, including seven rak'ahs as witr.

He then went on to say:

"I say (Abu Malik): The verified and correct view is what Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah stated (22/272–273):

"All of this is permissible. Whichever of these ways a person stands ˹in prayer˺ during Ramaḍān, he has done well. What is superior varies according to the conditions of the worshippers. If they are able to endure a long standing, then praying ten rak'ahs and three after them-as the Prophet ﷺ used to pray for himself in Ramaḍān and outside of it-is better. But if they cannot endure that, then praying twenty rak'ahs is better, and this is what the majority of Muslims practice, for it is a middle course between ten and forty. And if one prays forty rak'ahs or other than that, it is permissible, and nothing of that is disliked. More than one of the imams, such as Aḥmad and others, have explicitly stated this.

"And whoever thinks that the night prayer of Ramaḍān is fixed at a specific number from the Prophet ﷺ, such that it may neither be increased nor decreased, has erred …""

I (Abu Malik) said: This is how fiqh should be. So where is this compared to some of our brothers who leave the congregation of Tarāwīḥ in the Haram and depart after praying only ten rakʿahs? May ALLĀH pardon us and them.

"TO FAST IS BEST FOR YOU, IF ONLY YOU KNEW." (2:184)

Going into the month of Ramadān, many are experiencing hardships of some kind. Some are dealing with financial instability, difficulties in their marriages, breakups, debt, loneliness, or are struggling with feelings of shame and guilt.

Let Ramadān to be a soothing balm for your soul. Let it purify you. Let Ramadān remind you of ALLĀH's immense and infinite favours. Let Ramadān do its inner work on you. The Prophet ﷺ said: "You must fast, for there is nothing like it." {An-Nasa'i }

Sheikh Ibn Bāz said, "Indeed, witnessing a new Ramadān is an immense blessing from ALLĀH and due to this fact the Prophet ﷺ used to give glad tidings to his Companions at the commencement of Ramadān, exemplifying it's merits and what ALLĀH has prepared from the fast rewards for those who fast and stand in prayer." {Al-Ikhtiyarat al-Fiqhiyyah || pg 312}

RAMADĀN: AN OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE AHEAD IN RACE FOR JANNAH

Abu Huraira (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported: There were two men from the tribe of Quda’ah who embraced Islam with the Prophet ﷺ One of them was martyred and the other lived for another year.

Talhah (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) said, “I had a dream of Paradise and I saw the one who lived longer enter Paradise before the martyr. I was amazed by that so when I woke up, I mentioned it to the Prophet.”

The Prophet ﷺ said, “Did he not fast the month of Ramadān after him? And he performed six thousand or so bowings in prayer throughout the year?” {Musnad Aḥmad #8399}

In a narration by Ibn Majah, the Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said: “The difference between them is greater than the difference between heaven and earth.” {Sunan Ibn Majah #3925}

THE PRICELESS ADVICE OF UBAY IBN KA'B

Abu Al-'Āliyah reports that a man once asked 'Ubay b. Ka'b (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) for advice. He said:

"Take the Book of ALLĀH as your leader (imām) and be pleased with it as a judge and ruler. It is what your Messenger (ﷺ) left amongst you. It will be an intercessor for you. It is to be obeyed. It is a witness never doubted. In it is a mention of you and those before you, and judgment for whatever happens amongst you. And in it is news about you and whatever will come after you."

Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymin said: "ALLĀH said concerning fasting: 'I shall reward him for it.'

So HE connected the reward for fasting to HIMSELF, because the reward for righteous deeds is mentioned by number, and a good deed will be rewarded between 10 and 700 fold, many times. But with regard to fasting, ALLĀH connected the reward to HIMSELF without specifying any number. ALLĀH is the most generous of those who are generous, and the gift reflects the generosity of the giver. So the reward of the one who fasts will be very great, without reckoning. Fasting is:

1⃣. Patience in obeying ALLĀH,

2⃣. Patience in refraining from disobeying HIM,

3⃣. And patience in the face of painful decrees of ALLĀH, i.e., hunger, thirst and physical and spiritual exhaustion.

Fasting combines the three types of patience, and as a result, the fasting person becomes one of those who observe patience, and ALLĀH Almighty says: 'Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without limit.' (39:10)

USEFUL TOPICS IN CHILD EDUCATION WHOSE REWARDS ARE REAPED AT OLD AGE (1)

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) stated:

"The newborn’s breastfeeding should be carried by someone other than his mother, two or three days after his birth, which is better, because of the roughness of her breast milk during that time, unlike the breast milk of she whose job is breastfeeding, All the Arabs care for that, and have their children nursed by Bedouin women, just as the Prophet (ﷺ) was nursed in the clan of Sa'd.

They should not be carried around until they reach three months of age or more, due to their recent emergence of their mothers' wombs and their weak bodies.

They should only consume milk until their teeth grow, because of the weakness of their stomachs and their digestive capabilities.

When the teeth grow, the stomach strengthens and then he can eat food. ALLĀH (the Exalted) delayed the growth of teeth to the time when he needs food, in HIS wisdom and kindness, and HIS mercy for the mother and her breast nipples, so that the newborn does not bite them with his teeth.

Food should be gradually introduced to them. The first thing they eat should be tender food. They should be fed hot water soaked bread, milk, and then cooked vegetables, soup devoid of meat, and then very tender meat after being thoroughly chewed or broken to soft pieces.

If they are close to the speaking time, and parents wished to facilitate the process for them, they should rub their tongues with honey and rock salt, because they expel the heavy moistness that hinder speaking. When they start speaking, they should be inspired ‘Laa ilāha illallāh, Muhammad Rasūlullāh (There is no deity worthy of worship except ALLĀH, Muhammad is the Messenger of ALLĀH).’ Let the first thing they hear be the knowledge of ALLĀH (the Exalted) and HIS unity, that HE is above HIS throne, looking at them and hearing them, and that HE is with them (in knowledge) wherever they are."

In order that you may not grieve at the things over that you fail to get, nor boast over that which has been given to you. And ALLĀH does not like whoever is arrogant, boastful -

Those who are stingy and promote stinginess among people. And whoever turns away - then indeed, ALLĀH is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

LOVE OF THE MESSENGER ﷺ SHOULD TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER ALL OTHER TYPES OF LOVE

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"It is proven in as-Sahīh that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

No one of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his child and his father and all the people.

This hadith mentions three kinds of love, for love is either based on respect and veneration, such as love for one's father; or it is based on compassion, affection and kindness, such as love for one's child; or it is love that is motivated by kindness and aspirations of attaining perfection, such as love of people for one another. No person truly believes until his love for the Messenger (ﷺ) is greater than all these kinds of love."

REMINDER: FASTING AL-AYYĀM AL-BĪD (THE WHITE DAYS) FOR SHA'BĀN 1447AH

The white days of the month refer to the 13th, 14th, and 15th of each lunar month. The moon is at its fullest and most luminous during this period. Fasting on these days is sunnah, mentioned in various hadith.

Abu Dharr said: The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said to me: "If you fast any part of the month, then fast the 13th, 14th, and 15th." {An-Nasai #2424}

Abdullāh ibn Amr ibn al-'As said: The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said to me: "It is sufficient for you to fast three days every month because, for every good deed, you will have ˹the reward of˺ ten like it, so that will be like fasting for a lifetime." {Al-Bukhārī #1874}

Abu Hurayrah said: "My close friend (the Prophet ﷺ) advised me to do three things which I will not give up until I die: fasting three days of each month, praying Duha, and sleeping after Witr." {Muslim #721}

🌙 AL-I'TIKĀF

Ibn 'Umar narrated: "ALLAH'S Messenger ﷺ used to make i'tikāf in the last ten during Ramadān." {Bukhari #2025 and Muslim #1171}

The hadith is evidence for the virtue of i'tikäf and sticking to the masajid especially in the last ten of Ramadān because he used to make i'tikāf in the last ten of Ramadān until ALLĀH caused him to pass. And whatever the Messenger did as an act of obedience and seeking nearness (to ALLĀH), then it is recommended for us.

I'tikāf is not correct unless it is done in a masjid that holds congregational prayers, even if Salat-ul-Jumu'ah takes place during his i'tikaf. In fact, if it is easy to make i'tikāf in a masjid that holds Jumu'ah then this is safer, because there are those from the people of knowledge who make that a condition.

The mu'takif (one making i'tikāf) enters ˹the masjid˺ before the setting of the sun on the twenty-first night - according to the majority of people of knowledge. This is due to the hadith of Abu Sa'id narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:  "Whoever is making i'tikäf with me, let him do it in the last ten..." {al-Bukhari #2018 and Muslim #1167}

What supports this is that one of the aims of i'tikāf is to seek the Night of Decree which is hoped for in the odd nights of the last ten, and the first of these nights is the twenty-first.

I'tikāf in the masjid during the last ten has tremendous benefits. It is a temporary isolation from the affairs of life and the preoccupations of this world, and a complete turning to ALLĀH, the Most High.

Since the mu'takif is occupied exclusively in the worship of ALLĀH, the Most High, in one of HIS houses, he is prevented from embracing (his wives), having sexual intercourse, kissing or anything like that. Similarly, the mu'takif is prohibited from leaving (the masjid) except for inevitable needs of a human, such as a bath if he becomes sexually impure due to a wet dream or to urinate or defecate if a bathroom is not present in the masjid where he can relieve himself or bathe. He can also go out to bring his food if there is no one to bring it to him.

'A'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) said: "ALLAH'S Messenger did not enter the house except for a need when he was a mu'takif."

And in another narration: "except for the need of the human being."

As for his leaving for acts of obedience which are not obligatory on him - such as visiting the sick or witnessing a funeral and the likes - then he does not do so, unless he made that a condition at the beginning of his i'tikaf - according to one of the two opinions. And ALLĀH knows best.

The mu'takif should realize the wisdom of i'tikāf, so he spends his time in şalah, reciting the Noble Qur'an and words of remembrance. He should benefit from his time. He can seek knowledge and read books of or Tawhid, tafsir, hadith and other beneficial books. There is no problem if he speaks a little regarding what is permissible with his family someone else if there is a benefit. This is due to the hadith of Şafiyyah who said:

"The Prophet was a mu'takif. I went to visit him at night. I talked with him then I stood up to return (home) so he went with me..." And ALLĀH knows best.

THE ONE WISH OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE GRAVES

Imām Abul-Faraj 'Abdur-Rahmān bin al-Jawzī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

O striver; this is the season of your diligence.

O seeker; these are the times of your share (portion).

Awaken O negligent one from the slumber of idleness.

Guard yourself O ignorant one from the doubts of misguidance.

Enrich your welfare in this month before you are interned within your grave.

That being before the gradual disappearance of your duration; and the lack of your own devices; and your determined expiration and the severance of your voice; and the stumbling of your feet along with the manifestation of your regret.

For indeed; the duration of life is but mere hours that come to pass, and moments that swiftly cover the distance.

All of it is limited in number against you – whilst death draws nearer to you at each moment.
...

By ALLĀH; if it were said to the inhabitants of the graves: ‘wish’ – they would indeed wish for a day from Ramadān.

Until when will you remain in the garments of carelessness?

Do you not know the outcome of fanciful supposition?

Amazement upon you – for you believe; and yet you feel safe from the vicissitudes (of time).

Does it not benefit you in that which you see from heed?

Is it the deafening of the hearing or the covering of the sight?

By ALLĀH; you are in danger.

The demise draws near; and the departure is imminent – and with death there will come to you the tidings; every time you exit from a sin you enter into yet another.

O one of scant purity; until what quantity will there remain this tarnished impurity?

You are in Ramadān – just as you were in (the month of) Safar.

If you lose out in this month; then when will you profit?

If you do not journey within it towards benefit; when then will you set out?

Approach with generosity and do not withhold extra deeds

And make your forehead a sign of prostration

Perform obligatory acts as much as you will not be harmed by them

Be generous and recite the Qur’an therein

Guard your tongue when you speak amid chatter

Do not break your fast with words forgetfully

Be truthful in seeking wealth and give some of what you have been given

Your wealth will not decrease if you spend it in goodness.

We ask ALLĀH to help us to observe HIS commands during this blessed month and beyond. Aamīn.

📘 How to Teach Your Kids About Fasting

The Salaf were keen to train their children upon goodness from a young age.

They would even encourage them to fast.

This Ramadan, will we follow their example and help our young ones grow with Ibadah?

THE REASON THE PROPHET (ﷺ) WOULD BREAK HIS FAST WITH FRESH DATES, OR DRIED DATES, OR WATER.

Anas (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) used to break his fast with fresh dates before praying. If no fresh dates were available, he would break his fast with dried dates, and if none were available, he would break his fast with a few sips of water." {Abu Dawūd #2356 and At-Tirmidhi #696)

Ibn al-Qayyim (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) commented:

"There is a very subtle reason why the Prophet (ﷺ) would break his fast with fresh dates, or dried dates, or water, because when one fasts, the stomach becomes devoid of nourishment, so the liver will not find anything in the stomach that it can absorb and send to other parts of the body. Sweetness is the quickest to reach the liver and is what it prefers, especially if it is fresh, so if a person eats fresh dates, they will be absorbed quickly by the liver, which will benefit it and other parts of the body. If fresh dates are not available, then dried dates are the next best thing, because they are sweet and nourishing. If there are no dates available, then a few sips of water will extinguish the flame of the stomach and the heat of fasting, thus preparing the stomach to accept food with ease."

THE REALISTIC FAITH

Al-Ḥasan Al-Baṣrī (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"Faith (īmān) is not by embellishment or wishful thinking, but it is what settles in the heart and is verified through your works. Whoever says good but does not do good will have his words compared to his deeds by ALLĀH. Whoever says good and does good will have his words raised by his deeds. This is because ALLĀH 'azza wa jalla said:

إِلَيۡهِ يَصۡعَدُ ٱلۡكَلِمُ ٱلطَّيِّبُ وَٱلۡعَمَلُ ٱلصَّٰلِحُ يَرۡفَعُهُ
To HIM ascends the good word, and the righteous deed raises it.
(35:10)"

BENEFIT 62: REGARDING THE REST BETWEEN TWO SETS (FOUR RAKA'HS) OF TARAWĪH

The rest between every two sets of Tarāwīḥ:

The jurists agreed on the permissibility of taking a rest after every four rak‘ahs, as this is the practice inherited from the pious predecessors. They would prolong standing in Tarāwīḥ prayers and then sit after every four rak'ahs to rest. (¹)

I (Abu Malik) say: Perhaps the original basis for this is the statement of 'Ā'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her), which was mentioned earlier, describing the Prophet ﷺ's night prayer: "…He would pray four ˹rak'ahs˺, so do not ask about their beauty or length; then he would pray four, so do not ask about their beauty or length…"

This indicates a separation after every four rak‘ahs.

It is not prescribed during this rest to recite any specific dhikr or otherwise, contrary to what some ignorant people do.

ASK YOUR LORD THREE THINGS

"Raise your hands and ask your Lord three things:

• O ALLĀH, allow us to reach Ramadan.

• O ALLĀH, help us in it to do acts of righteousness and excellence.

• O ALLĀH, accept our deeds in it and free us from the Fire."

IN WHICH WAY DO OUR LIMBS FAST?

Sheikh bn Bāz said: "The fasting of the limbs is distancing them from that which ALLĀH had prohibited them from.

• The tongue fasts (refrains) from that which ALLĀH has prohibited it from, for example, backbiting, tale-carrying between people, lying and that which is similar to this.

• The hand fasts (refrains) from that which ALLĀH has prohibited it from, for example, stealing, transgression (oppression), aggression and similar to this.

• Also, the foot keeps away from that which ALLĀH has prohibited it from; so it must not proceed and walk towards that which ALLĀH has prohibited.

• Likewise, the stomach should be safeguarded from eating that which is ḥarām; a person must safeguard his stomach from prohibited food.

• And he safeguards his hearing from listening to that which ALLĀH has prohibited, for example, musical instruments, backbiting, tale-carrying and other than this"

FASTING AND QUR'AN INTERCEDE FOR BELIEVERS

The entire Qur'an was sent down from the 'Preserved Tablet' to the lowest heaven in Ramadān. Thus, the month was honoured by being the time in which the Qur'an was revealed. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ would revise the Qur'an with the angel Jibrīl during Ramadan, listening attentively, reflecting on its meanings, reciting it, and living by its guidance.

Whoever recites the Qur'an while fasting unites Ramadān with the Glorious Book, and thus lives the entire month in the companionship of the Noble Qur'an. It is this blessed union that bears fruit in the Hereafter, as both acts rise in defence of the servant. As the Prophet ﷺ said:

"Fasting and the Qur'an will intercede for the servant on the Day of Resurrection..." {Aḥmad}

So the one who fasts by day and keeps close to the Qur'an by night has gathered two mighty intercessors, each speaking on his behalf before ALLĀH on the Day when intercession will truly matter.

REJOICING AT THE APPROACH OF RAMADĀN

The month of Ramadān creates a feeling of joy and delight in the hearts of believers. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "…There are two joyous occasions for the fasting person; one at the time of breaking his fast and the other when he meets his Lord, for then he will rejoice because of his fasting." {Muslim #1151}

Ramadān is the optimal time for Muslims to relish joy and delight.

How could the believer not rejoice at the coming of Ramadān when a gate of Paradise is opened for him?

How could a believer not rejoice at the coming of Ramadān as he is given a chance for his past and future sins to be forgiven?

How could a believer not rejoice at the coming of Ramadān when he is given a chance to be saved from Hellfire?

How could a believer not rejoice at the coming of Ramadān as the caller proclaims, "O seeker of good, come forward!"?

May ALLĀH make us of those who will reach the blessed month.

TWO RAMADĀNS SHOULD NOT BE ALIKE

Last year Ramadān, you were lamenting how quickly it passed.

You regretted how your plans were not achieved, how your goals remained unfinished, and how you fell short in your worship. You promised yourself that next Ramadān would be different.

Now Ramadān is almost here again. Pause and reflect. Ask yourself: Where did I fall short last year? What weakened my resolve? What habits distracted me and robbed me of attaining more blessings of Ramadān?

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The believer is not stung twice from the same hole." {Muslim}

A believer does not repeat the same mistakes. He learns from his previous shortcomings and actively works to prevent them from returning. He strives to make today better than yesterday, and this Ramadān better than the last. He increases in piety, sincerity, and good deeds, seeking the pleasure of ALLĀH with greater determination.

A believer's two days shouldn't be equal, similarly, two Ramadāns should never be equal.
