🌱Controlling Temper🌱

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.”

 

Moral: You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there. Make sure you control your temper the next time you are tempted to say something you will regret later.

✏️✏️✏️Implement What you Read, but Start Small🖌🖌🖌
One of the major reasons people fail to implement what they read into their lives is they bite off more than they can chew. They read some book and attempt a massive overhaul of their life. Because this isn’t sustainable, they usually find themselves right back where they started. They assume the ideas in the book don’t work and start looking for the next book to read or the next guru to worship. This continues the vicious cycle of personal development.

When I read Shawn Achor’s book The Happiness Advantage there were so many actionable ideas that I wanted to immediately implement in my life. But the one that stood out was the concept of a activation energy. I decided to apply it to my wiring process by putting my journal out on my desk the night before and by blocking distractions. That led to my keystone habit of writing 1000 words a day, which eventually lead to reading 100 books a year, a daily meditation habit and much more. It was one small thing that lead me there.

One of the best pieces of advice I can give you for habit creation is that it should be easy to do daily, even effortless.If you only do this once and never do it again you’ll fail to see the value in it. That would be a bit like going to the gym, never going back, and wondering why you’re not in the most amazing shape of your life. The more difficult and time consuming, the more difficult the habit to adhere to. The trick to remembering and retention, is to take what you learn from reading and apply little daily doses to your life. Do it for 10 books and before you know it, you’ll have a new system for taking action on things you read.📖📖📖

Chances are you’ve read dozens of articles on the internet this week and maybe you’ve even finished reading book or two. You may have even underlined or highlighted a few passages in what you’ve read. You’ve thought to yourself “I can’t wait to implement that in my life or business.” A few days later you can’t even remember what you read or where it came from. And this continues the vicious cycle of excessive consumption which limits your creativity and prevents you from consuming less and creating more.

Practical application of what you read reinforces what you’ve learned because you’re forced to integrate it into your life. If all you do is consume, you’re much more likely to forget what you read.
If you want to actually remember what you read, and take action on it, you have to develop a system.

You can utilize the notecard system that Ryan Holiday learned from Robert Greene.
You can use Evernote to build a second brain the way the Tiago Forte does
Regardless of what method you use, having a system is essential to increasing your creative output, remembering what you read, and taking action on it.

[ एक कार ]
एक मेहनती और ईमानदार नौजवान बहुत पैसे कमाना चाहता था क्योंकि वह गरीब था और बदहाली में जी रहा था। उसका सपना था कि वह मेहनत करके खूब पैसे कमाये और एक दिन अपने पैसे से एक कार खरीदे। जब भी वह कोई कार देखता तो उसे अपनी कार खरीदने का मन करता।

कुछ साल बाद उसकी अच्छी नौकरी लग गयी। उसकी शादी भी हो गयी और कुछ ही वर्षों में वह एक बेटे का पिता भी बन गया। सब कुछ ठीक चल रहा था मगर फिर भी उसे एक दुख सताता था कि उसके पास उसकी अपनी कार नहीं थी। धीरे – धीरे उसने पैसे जोड़ कर एक कार खरीद ली। कार खरीदने का उसका सपना पूरा हो चुका था और इससे वह बहुत खुश था। वह कार की बहुत अच्छी तरह देखभाल करता था और उससे शान से घूमता था।

एक दिन रविवार को वह कार को रगड़ – रगड़ कर धो रहा था। यहां तक कि गाड़ी के टायरों को भी चमका रहा था। उसका 5 वर्षीय बेटा भी उसके साथ था। बेटा भी पिता के आगे पीछे घूम – घूम कर कार को साफ होते देख रहा था। कार धोते धोते अचानक उस आदमी ने देखा कि उसका बेटा कार के बोनट पर किसी चीज़ से खुरच – खुरच कर कुछ लिख रहा है। यह देखते ही उसे बहुत गुस्सा आया। वह अपने बेटे को पीटने लगा। उसने उसे इतनी जो़र से पीटा कि बेटे के हाथ की एक उंगली ही टूट गयी😣। दरअसल वह आदमी अपनी कार को बहुत चाहता था और वह बेटे की इस शरारत को बर्दाश्त नहीं कर सका । बाद में जब उसका गुस्सा कुछ कम हुआ तो उसने सोंचा कि जा कर देखूं कि कार में कितनी खरोंच लगी है। कार के पास जा कर देखने पर उसके होश उड़ गये। उसे खुद पर बहुत गुस्सा आ रहा था। वह फूट – फूट कर रोने लगा। कार पर उसके बेटे ने खुरच कर लिखा था Papa, I love you.

यह कहानी हमें यह सिखाती है कि किसी के बारे में कोई गलत राय रखने से पहले या गलत फैसला लेने से पहले हमें ये ज़रूर सोंचना चाहिये कि उस व्यक्ति ने वह काम किस नियत से किया है।

11. Spend more time outside.

It’s scientifically proven that vitamin D boosts your mood and the fresh air will give you an energy boost. It also helps to clear your head when you’re feeling anxious.

12. Sweat it out.

I feel like a hypocrite trying to encourage you to exercise but I can’t deny it makes you feel good. And you don’t need to run a marathon, start by taking a walk every day or the stairs instead of the elevator. Baby steps.

13. Spend more time with your loved ones.

Make more time to hang out with your closest family and friends, the people who are there for you no matter what and avoid people that put you down.

14. Make plans.

Having something to look forward to will not only make you happier but also help you overcome challenges. Well, I might have a busy week coming up at work but at least I’m going to Ikea on Saturday and can treat myself to some new bits.

15. Buy a planner and organize your life.

If you love stationery and planning as much as I do, organizing your life with the help of a pretty planner will make you feel accomplished and prepared to tackle your to-do list.

16. Stretch out your body in the morning.

Stretching improves your posture and gives you the energy to face a new day. All you need to do is put your hands above your head and stretch as far as you can for a few seconds. Super easy!

17. Step out of your comfort zone.

I’m the first to admit this isn’t easy but it’s so empowering to take a step out of your bubble and overcome a fear. Don’t let fear hold you back.

18. Learn to let go.

You are wasting your energy by worrying about things that happened in the past. Been there, done that. You can’t go back and change them so focus on the present, instead.

19. Smile to your reflection in the mirror.

Yes, do it. I do this every time I’m feeling a bit blah, is that weird? Yeah, it’s weird. But I promise it actually works. Of course, it really depends on the situation but smiling, even when it’s fake, activates a little something in your brain that makes you feel happier.

20. Remember: you’re the one in charge of your happiness.

You can’t control what happens to you, you can only control how you react to it. You can’t also rely on other people to bring you happiness, it must come from within, so focus on creating a positive mindset!

There’s a great deal of power to writing about things you read. And one of best ways to reinforce your learning of something is to teach it to someone else. Many of articles and book chapters are often inspired by things I’ve read. When we write about the things we read, we not only reinforce those ideas, we synthesize them and gain our own insights from them.

Take the example of something I’ve written quite a bit about over the last year: deep work. As a byproduct of writing so much about it, my own ability to do deep work has increased significantly. It also had a significant impact on the content of my upcoming book.

Out with the old and in with the new! Happy 2018 Champions around the world. Today I spent some time organizing and to no surprise I had many things that I have not used in a while and will not be using. These things were just taking up unnecessary space. Also I noticed things that I had forgotten about that could be very useful for me now. This is exactly how our lives work. When we hold onto things that are unnecessary for us we prevent ourselves from accepting anything new and useful into our lives. We just can’t let go and we should!

The second thing that occurs when our lives are cluttered is that we don’t see that we are currently standing in the midst of some valuable things that could add more value to our daily lives right now. We simply can’t see the good in all the rubbish around us. So, let 2018 not be about just one day of celebration then back to the norm. Many will do this! It should be a Year dedication of spending your time decluttering your lives so that you can breathe your own rightful air! Clean your closets, cars, offices, homes, classrooms, wherever you find things cluttering and keep it maintained. When you clutter, you bury the Champion that could see things more clearly for you. Spend time this week seeing what is blocking up your lives and decide if it is truly worth it. Start clearing the way to your success! Believe the Champion in You! -Adrian Starks
