Samsung Guidance Reveals Spike in Q2 Profit as AI Chip Market Grows

Samsung has released its financial guidance for the second quarter of 2024, showing a significant increase in profits. The company also reported sales of approximately KRW 74 trillion, a 23% increase compared to the same period last year.
The operating profit is expected to be KRW 10.4 trillion, which is fifteen times higher than April-June 2023.
(all units in KRW / USD) Q2 2024 Earnings Guidance Q1 2024 QoQ Change Q2 2023 YoY Change Sales 74 trillion / 53.5 billion 71.92 trillion / 52.06 billion 2.9% 60 trillion / 46 billion 23% Operating Profit 10.4 trillion / 7.53 billion 6.61 trillion / 4.78 billion 57% 0.6 trillion / 455 million 1633%
However, this dramatic increase is slightly misleading. 2023 was a challenging year for Samsung due to declining chip demand. While consumers and manufacturers have shifted away from chips for graphics cards, they are now focusing on the growing trend of AI.
Companies are developing AI-powered devices and servers that require more computing power, and Samsung supplies the necessary semiconductors. A comparison with 2022, before the significant dip, shows that sales and profit are now within the same range.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/aa5afe0e-5911-406a-a4bf-41d817181ba9.jpg
According to research by TrendForce, quoted by Reuters, memory chip prices surged by 13-18% in just one quarter.
Analysts predict that high-end chips (HBM) and SSDs will lead the market in 2024, though Samsung has been trailing behind fellow Korean manufacturer SK Hynix in supplying HBM to key customers like Nvidia.

Honor is gearing up to launch the Magic V3 next week. After seeing the phone in orange with a faux leather back, the company has now showcased the new foldable in three more colors: Green, White, and Black.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/8391ebd4-d59e-480d-b750-690ffaed07ce.jpg
According to Honor, the colors are inspired by nature. The White option appears to have a glass panel, which changes shade depending on the angle of the light. The Green and Black options, on the other hand, feature classic frosted panels.

The frame around the phone and the camera island will differ in all the options. We know the orange one gets gold accents, while the Green one will have Grey. The White option sticks to white, and the Black option appears to have slightly darker grey sides.

There are still many unknowns, such as the chipset, battery capacity, and the triple cameras on the back. We expect to learn more details in the next few days before everything becomes official on July 12.

https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/ca78635c-7212-49b5-b1e2-6a1ca1c5f5ae.jpg
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/9d25bb95-5a9f-42f5-adff-4833eb056d47.jpg
The Realme 13 Pro+ has been certified for sale in China by TENAA, and its specs have been revealed. The device is expected to launch in India soon.
Interestingly, the CPU frequency listed by TENAA matches the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, not the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 that was previously rumored. However, there may be differences between the Chinese model and the international version.
The Realme 13 Pro+ features a 6.7-inch 1080x2412 OLED screen, a triple rear camera setup (50 MP + 8 MP + 50 MP), a 32 MP front camera, and a 5,050 mAh battery with 80W fast charging support.
In China, the device will come with 6/8/12/16GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB of storage. It measures 161.3 x 73.9 x 8.2 mm and weighs 190g. The curved-side screen is also confirmed.
The main camera uses the new 50 MP Sony Lytia LYT-701 sensor with OIS, and a 50 MP Sony Lytia LYT-600 sensor for the 3x optical zoom camera. The 8 MP snapper is the ultrawide.
Realme's newly announced Hyperimage+ engine uses "cutting edge AI capabilities" to provide image quality "on par with professional DSLR cameras". For a hands-on review and camera samples, check out this article.

Threads turns 1, grows to 175 million monthly active users
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/0283afaf-44b8-44dd-a5bc-4df2e2dd05d0.jpg
Threads, the social network that branched off from Instagram, launched on July 5, 2023. In the year since, the platform has grown to 175 million monthly active users. This news was posted by Mark Zuckerberg himself (on Threads, of course).
Initially, Threads grew at a rapid pace, reaching 100 million users just 5 days after launch. Things have calmed down since then, but the network keeps growing – it reported 130 million users in February and 150 million in April.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/5f517924-5220-4dfb-829c-7270a75a84a0.jpg
The Threads team is having a quiet celebration of the 175 million milestone with new custom icons. The mobile app was updated to give users a choice of 5 icons (in addition to the default one). More new icons will be added, one each day. You will find them in the Your Profile tab in the app (tap the birthday cake icon). Note that these custom icons are available only for a very limited time and you should pick one by July 12.
The Threads network is interconnected with the rest of the Meta empire. As of June 25, users in more than 100 countries can enable sharing of their posts to the fediverse at large.
Instagram reports that 63% of all posts on Threads are text-only. That said, 1 in 4 posts on the network contain at least one photo. Besides text and photos, voice notes are becoming more common on Threads, though younger people are more likely to use them than those from older generations. Check out Instagram's post about curious results from a survey among 2,000 users ranging from Gen Z to Boomers.

OnePlus Nord 4 Images Leak, Revealing Unique Design
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/7e6448e9-e50f-49f4-bdef-cdad6e9e7fff.jpg
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/61a4343b-e65f-4b09-90b9-315e4a86d99b.jpg
Just a day after OnePlus confirmed the launch of the Nord 4, multiple leaks have surfaced, showcasing the device's unique design. Initially, it was believed that the Nord 4 would be a rebranded OnePlus Ace 3V, a phone recently released in China. However, the latest leaks suggest that this is not the case.
The Nord 4's design is distinct from the Ace 3V, with a mostly metal back and a glass top portion. The first leaked image shows the device in three color options, which are likely to be the only available colors at launch.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/c25fd47c-9e54-412e-b432-5d65d01ac8c3.jpg
Two additional live images provide a closer look at the phone's rear in its black variant.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/d3420686-0c62-4357-b033-ddff80521923.jpg
The design is certainly unique and unlike any other phone currently available. While it achieves the goal of making the Nord 4 stand out, it may not be ideal for brand recognition.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/1b0bb73b-3602-401a-be0b-6fbe44a5d970.jpg
The Nord 4 is rumored to feature the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset, making it a solid upper-midrange performer. The device is expected to have competitive pricing to match its performance.

Forestay, Europe's Newest $220M Growth-Stage VC Fund, to Focus on AI
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/af9f10c5-683a-4fbb-9fa5-a5cb9f022449.jpg
Forestay, a Geneva-based venture capital firm, has closed its second fund, Forestay Capital II, at a hard cap of $220 million. The firm, which has been leading rounds in enterprise startups over the past couple of years, has invested in companies such as Scandit, K2View, Nexthink, and Wasabi, with three of these companies reaching unicorn status and two being acquired.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/0d31466b-d184-4266-89aa-3393ba283d9a.jpg
The Forestay II fund will invest across Europe and Israel, with a focus on leading growth rounds of $10M-$15M at the inflection point of a company. The firm's founder, Frederic Wohlwend, stated that Forestay will be "extremely focused" in its investment strategy, only investing in enterprise AI and SaaS companies, and mainly playing in Series B rounds.
Wohlwend, who previously served as the Global Chief Digital Officer of Merck KGaA and Serono, believes that his experience in the biopharma clinical space has given him a deep understanding of the enterprise value chain, from early research to distribution. This expertise will be leveraged to identify and support promising enterprise AI and SaaS startups.
The fund's investment strategy is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for SaaS and enterprise solutions in Europe, where the market is fragmented by geography and language. The emergence of Forestay as a growth-stage VC fund focused on AI is a positive development for the European startup ecosystem, providing more options for growth capital.

Following the release of an infographic highlighting the Galaxy Fold family's history, Samsung has now published a similar infographic showcasing the evolution of its true wireless earbuds, marking the second installment in the "Galaxy History" series.
The journey began with the Galaxy Buds in 2019. The Galaxy Buds+ arrived in 2020, boasting the same design and double the battery life. In 2021, Samsung released its first pair of Pro earbuds, as well as the Galaxy Buds2, which shared a similar design with the Buds Pro rather than the original Buds.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/bc926a0d-e693-4107-83c2-ea03de45ef72.jpg
The Galaxy Buds2 Pro was released in 2022, and the upcoming Galaxy Buds3 have been long-awaited. These will be unveiled at an Unpacked event next week, on July 10, and if recent leaks are accurate, they will mark a significant design shift for Samsung, adopting a stem style similar to Apple's AirPods.
Samsung claims its Galaxy Buds series "distinguishes itself from other wireless earbuds available on the market through enhanced sound quality, comfortable fit, and a smarter sound experience powered by Galaxy AI".
As for the next generation, Samsung promises to change "the listening experience by delivering earbuds with comfortable wearability that produce quality sound and expand connectivity". The new Galaxy Buds will "continue to serve as a friendly medium", "allowing users to enter a new world of sound every time they wear their earbuds".

tps://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/b3b8dabc-c667-4913-aa98-a89720a9645d.jpg Camera Comparison
The biggest difference between the Reno12 Pro and the Reno12 is the camera hardware. The former offers a dedicated 50MP 2x zoom camera (f/2.0, 1/2.75") on top of the 50MP main camera (f/1.8, 1/1.95"), which both devices share. They also share the same 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera. The Reno12 settles for a 2MP macro shooter instead of the 2x optical zoom snapper.
The Reno12 Pro also gets a better selfie camera - 50MP one (f/2.0, 1/2.75"), whereas the Reno12 gets a 32MP front-facing cam (f/2.0, 1/3.1"). Notably, both selfie solutions offer autofocus, so kudos for that. Image Quality
Given the mostly identical camera hardware, chipset, and ISP as well as software, it's no surprise that we couldn't find any difference in the photo samples during the day or after dusk. Both handsets offer identical performance in both scenarios. https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/08541768-3ca8-4fb5-b715-14cb69370c5b.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/4e200535-5974-44bb-8f52-9fd66ee53523.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/ff1c115c-a9e6-44c3-89b1-92a4188a2eb1.jpg Reno12 Pro: 0.6x • 1x • 2x https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/3a1f0bf9-5678-4710-9143-3be1252e9c01.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/af251f8d-ba71-40b6-9fbf-76e70f81b349.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/854282a2-c9ec-4b8f-a641-c52cc5425840.jpg Reno12: 0.6x • 1x • 2x Video Quality
While there are some nuances when it comes to photos, there are none when it comes to video recording capabilities. Both devices deliver identical-looking footage with all the cameras on the back. https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/951b8802-94a9-42a6-b630-24ab64bf1047.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/90f13c1c-5f9a-410d-ad0a-0e974776def0.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/1e1678b0-b472-4acb-b9e0-facbc2760503.jpg Reno12 Pro: 0.6x • 1x • 2x https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/3a0aca97-465b-4d25-a5d2-d60913d40b8d.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/67bbf823-f3a0-40c1-86bf-adeb3ed0f79d.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/f2115390-5ed0-4943-b8e3-f4db914ab27d.jpg Reno12: 0.6x • 1x • 2x
One would expect the Reno12 Pro to have superior 2x zoom videos, but as it turns out, it resorts to cropping from its main camera when recording videos. That's why you won't find any difference between the Reno12 Pro's and Reno12's 2x zoom clips. Verdict
The price gap at launch between the Reno12 Pro and the Reno12 is €100, but that gap has narrowed since the release. As it currently stands, the Reno12 is around €50-70 cheaper, so the logical thing to do is probably get the Pro version as it's the more capable handset for just a little bit more out of your pocket.
However, the feature disparity between the two devices is so small that you get practically the same user experience from the Reno12 at a lower price. It has the same display, battery life, speakers, charging,

India's Airtel Refutes Data Breach Claims Amid Customer Concerns
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/b0fbf14c-c303-408e-840a-dc328aee3887.jpg
Airtel, India's second-largest telecommunications operator, has denied any breach of its systems following reports of a possible security lapse that has sparked concern among its customers.
The telecom company, which also sells productivity and security solutions to businesses, stated that it had conducted a thorough investigation and found no evidence of a breach. Airtel dismissed media reports about the alleged breach as a desperate attempt to tarnish its reputation by vested interests.
The company's statement comes after unconfirmed reports of a potential data breach circulated in local outlets and social media, prompting worry among Airtel's subscriber base of nearly 375 million users.
A purported data broker emerged on a dark web forum earlier this week, offering for sale the alleged personal information of approximately 375 million users, including phone numbers, email addresses, Aadhaar identification numbers, and residential addresses.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro has been spotted in leaked live images, giving us a closer look at the design and features of the earbuds. The images, shared by a reliable tipster, confirm that the Galaxy Buds3 Pro will have a stem design, similar to Apple's AirPods.
The leaked images also reveal that the charging case will have a translucent lid with an indicator light on the front. Additionally, the images show a downward-facing line on the stem of the left bud, which is rumored to be called "Blade Light".
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/1c2e490c-156a-4c9a-8b4d-6a3df1d063f4.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/443837dc-5d34-4727-afa0-555b07e0720e.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/4f671bc5-ee74-43e4-b273-bc26782dbd35.jpg
Rumors suggest that the Galaxy Buds3 Pro will feature 2-way speakers in each bud, Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, and come with Ambient Sound and Adaptive Noise Control. The earbuds are also expected to have an IP57 rating and offer up to 30 hours of playback when paired with the charging case (7 hours without it).
With the official unveiling just around the corner, we won't have to wait long to learn more about the Galaxy Buds3 Pro's specs, features, pricing, and availability.

Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Retail Box Leaks, New Stem Style Design Confirmed
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/da0a3436-2382-4d44-981e-8e394c3011fc.jpg

The Samsung Galaxy Buds line has been around since 2019, and in these five years, no model has ever employed a stem design. However, that is set to change with the upcoming Galaxy Buds3, which will be the first Galaxy Buds with stems. This information was leaked before, and today an image of their retail box confirms the move.
A lot of people will likely complain about how Samsung is "copying Apple" with this design, but there are probably hundreds of other companies that have released stem-style true wireless earbuds in the past few years. Samsung is just the latest one to adopt this design, and maybe it's for the better?
Aside from the Galaxy Buds+ launched in 2020 (which don't even have ANC), all of Samsung's earbuds have had pretty middling mic performance, to put it nicely. So we're hoping that switching to stems, which bring the mics closer to your mouth, may finally result in a new pair of Galaxy Buds with stellar mic performance.
The Buds3 are expected to have ANC, and while Apple did "invent" the stem-style earbud, the stems of Samsung's upcoming buds feature a very angular design that is quite different (perhaps on purpose) from Apple's.

The upcoming Google Pixel 9 series is set to debut on August 13, two months earlier than usual. Despite the earlier launch, we've already seen two hands-on videos leak, revealing some details about the device.
A new report claims that the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL will all feature ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors. This marks a departure from the optical in-display scanners used in previous Pixels. The new sensor, dubbed 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008), is made by Qualcomm.
Ultrasonic sensors don't require lighting up the display to scan fingerprints, making them faster and more reliable than optical sensors. Additionally, they work even when your finger is wet.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, on the other hand, will stick with a side-mounted capacitive sensor embedded into its power button, according to the same report.

Redmi K70 Ultra Stops by Geekbench with Dimensity 9300+ Chipset
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/a2c894c8-f7aa-45fa-b07a-caf0656c0589.jpg
The highly anticipated Redmi K70 Ultra is nearing its launch, completing the K70 family alongside the already official K70 and K70 Pro. The Ultra has recently started making the rounds in certification circles, and rumors about it have been intensifying.
Today, a prototype has been spotted in the Geekbench database, revealing some of its specs. Notably, the K70 Ultra's SoC is the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+, and the prototype that ran Geekbench has 16GB of RAM, although more options will likely be available upon launch.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/cf357b84-6bbf-468d-b4b1-25b20e3230da.jpg
The K70 Ultra will, of course, run Android 14 from day one, with a custom UI on top. The prototype managed a single-core score of 2,218 and a multi-core score of 7,457 in Geekbench 6.3.
Redmi has already announced that the K70 Ultra will have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, and a certification has outed its support for 120W wired charging. The device is rumored to be launching this month, so more information will likely leak in the coming days and weeks.
While it won't be sold outside of China, the Redmi K70 Ultra could serve as the base for the upcoming Xiaomi 14T Pro, if history repeats itself as the K60 Ultra was what the Xiaomi 13T Pro was based on, though with some modifications.

Spain's Exposure to Climate Change Helps Madrid-based VC Close €300M Climate-tech Fund
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/a85bf275-19cb-44c9-8a9f-f7e5680332ba.jpg
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/df375811-e260-4445-8d10-a6cfd49b70e4.jpg
According to a recent report on the Spanish tech ecosystem, the combined enterprise value of Spanish startups has surpassed €100 billion in 2023. Madrid-based VC fund Seaya has closed Seaya Andromeda, an 'Article 9' €300 million climate-tech fund based out of Madrid.
Seaya Andromeda will invest in growth companies specializing in energy transition, decarbonization, sustainable food value chains, and the circular economy. The fund will deploy between €7M-€40M as a first check and retain capital for follow-ons, with plans to make 25 investments by the end of 2027.
Seaya was launched in 2013 by former private equity investor Beatriz González, who got into climate and sustainable investing after backing a recycled clothing line. Under González, Seaya has invested in climate tech companies including Biome Makers, Clarity.ai, Crowdfarming, Descartes, RatedPower, Samara, and electric car charging stations company Wallbox (which went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021).
González believes that Spain's exposure to climate change gives them a competitive advantage in the climate-tech industry. "If you think about energy transition and decarbonization, coming from Southern Europe, particularly Spain, we do see that we are better suited for two reasons. One is because Southern Europe is having more extreme heat waves. So clearly, there is much more social awareness. But we also think that we have competitive advantages in the industries that we are targeting."
The firm has invested in several relevant companies, including Spain-based augmented-reality skill training solution Seabery, UK-based AI-powered waste management startup Recycleye, and San Francisco-based climate-tech company Pachama.
This news follows other signs of the Southern European funding renaissance, with Plus Partners launching a $30M-$50M fund in Barcelona. The annual "State of European Tech" report for 2023 also found Spain's ecosystem to be in fourth place overall, with the highest number of startup fundings last year.

Realme 13 Pro+ Early Hands-on and Camera Samples
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/578adf7b-2496-4080-ab81-805c2755d767.jpg
Realme believes that smartphone camera technology has reached its peak, and future improvements can only be achieved through advanced AI image processing. The company recently showcased its upcoming Realme 13 Pro+ and allowed us to take some photos with it.
The Realme Number series has a long history of bringing camera innovation to the masses. This will continue with Realme's strategic partnership with Sony, which is supplying the sensors for the main and periscope cameras. https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/d012077e-fc21-4a5b-baf2-9338fa8b537e.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/f5d48649-2bbd-41d1-bbee-9beeccc2c33c.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/818b0595-b635-4a29-9b89-984e761f074e.jpg Official demos of the AI Ultra Clarity image processing
The Realme 13 Pro series will be the first to use the new Sony LYT-701 sensor. Although details on this sensor are scarce, the proof is in the pudding – we have camera samples.
The Pro+ model will also feature a periscope lens with a LYT-600 sensor behind it. This is the first time this sensor has been used in such an arrangement, but it's well-known – it's a 50MP 1/1.93” sensor.
The periscope lens offers 3x magnification (73mm) and combined with the in-sensor zoom on the LYT-600, it can do 6x lossless zoom (146mm) too. Realme claims that the image quality holds up at even 10x magnification. As for the other two cameras, the Realme 13 Pro+ has a 24mm main and a 16MP ultra wide (0.6x).
Before we dive into the camera samples, let's take a peek at the phone itself. Just a peek, as the design of the 13 Pro+ hasn't been fully revealed yet. For now, all we can tell you is that it will have a curved screen – small surprise, so did the 12, 11, and 10 Pro+ models. https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/26170188-1906-4f49-ac0d-0eea38ff31e9.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/fd8a8084-05f4-4349-ba0a-590e46c62d52.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/b1acb7bd-0ff5-40c9-95c2-41f3424aa93d.jpg An early peek at the Realme 13 Pro+
We should also mention the AI-based image processing pipeline, which has three components: cutting-edge optics to capture the best raw data possible, on-device AI image processing algorithms, and AI-based image editing in the cloud.
Without further ado, here are the camera samples we took with the Realme 13 Pro+ in a specially prepared photo area.
In the first scene, we used the main camera at its native focal length, then 2x magnification, plus the telephoto at its native 3x and in 6x modes. https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/ecb98d7d-b413-4861-b002-bd7a8b483fc0.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/34c63ebb-8e91-4da4-8349-8d11c696aec3.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/9909112f-ec5b-4104-9400-0f5c9862c993.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/c00e3cb7-c007-439a-9924-982469bfc687.jpg Realme 13 Pro+ camera samples: 24mm • 49mm • 73mm • 144mm
The next scene was shot with just the telephoto camera, starting at 73mm (3x) and going up to 239mm (10x magnification). https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/343ed1cd-fee8-4a31-9010-d45d85d1ac56.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/4ce39722-f073-4ed5-a8b1-11d8600ceced.jpg https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/aee0c531-135a-4325-ada3-b3e7058d0c64.jpg Realme 13 Pro+ periscope cam samples: 73mm • 144mm • 239mm
The next scene was shot in low light, which is an issue for most zoom cameras. We start with the main and then two photos with the periscope. A Year Later, What Threads Could Learn from Other Social Networks
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/62d8d844-ba37-45dd-a5d1-343702919c87.jpg

Threads, a social network, has just celebrated its first birthday. After launching on July 5 last year, the platform has reached 175 million monthly active users – a notable achievement. However, after a year, Threads is still finding its own voice by not being as newsy as Twitter/X and also not being as open as Mastodon or Bluesky – at least for now.
Over the course of the last year, the Threads team has rapidly shipped features and gathered feedback from users. After the launch, Threads has gained support for multiple profiles, a web app, a Tweetdeck-like interface on the desktop, trending topics in the U.S., and custom controls for mute and quote replies.
The company has also made progress in integrating with the Fediverse. Users can connect their accounts to the ActivityPub protocol and share their posts with the Fediverse. They can also view likes and replies from the wider Fediverse. However, they can't follow people from other servers just yet.
Following Topics
Bluesky has done a great job with custom feeds and helping people discover different content. Custom feeds are programmatic feeds that aim to pull posts related to one topic without being limited to one tag. Threads implemented tags last year, but at times, users end up sharing posts with different tags for an event or trend. Is it WWDC or WWDC 2024 or WWDC 24 or Apple Event? There is no way to combine those. Some provision for this in the API or a custom list implementation would be a great addition.
Last month, Threads made its API widely available to developers. The API enables toolmakers to post content for users and display their own posts within an app. However, this doesn't allow developers to create third-party apps to consume Threads.
Separating Threads and Instagram
Threads built a lot of its user base through its Instagram integration. However, with over 175 million active users, the company can afford to lose its ties with Instagram. Initially, a Threads profile was completely tied to their Instagram account. So you couldn’t delete your profile without deleting your Instagram account. However, later, the company released an update for users to deactivate or delete one account.
You can’t still create a profile that’s separate from an Instagram account. Plus, there is no way for you to DM people unless you go to their Instagram.
News and Politics
Threads has taken a stance that they are not actively promoting or amplifying news and political content on the platform. Despite that, political topics surface in places like trending topics from time to time. Right now, these topics are just concentrated towards U.S. politics, but when they roll out to other regions, there will be times when political content will take over the social network. And the company should hone the product in a way that could handle extremities without suppressing news.
X's community notes program is not perfect, and often, it makes mistakes or is prone to bias. However, at times, it succeeds in providing useful context. When it comes to news, Mastodon recently rolled out a feature to show bylines linked with the writer's account on the social network.

Realme has introduced an in-house solution for AI photography, called Hyperimage+, at an AI imaging media preview event in Bangkok, Thailand.
Hyperimage+ is a three-layer architecture consisting of flagship optics, on-device AI imaging algorithms, and cloud-based AI image editing. The event, themed "The Future is Here: AI is revolutionizing mobile imaging," featured speakers from Sony and TUV Rheinland, who discussed their partnership and the upcoming Realme 13 Pro products.
https://ai4chat-files.s3.amazonaws.com/images/572976b6-d5aa-4a8e-90b4-6d6c38381620.jpg
Francis Wong, Head of Product Marketing at Realme, explained that the base layer of Hyperimage+ consists of "cutting-edge optics, including multiple lenses, periscope lenses, and large sensors," which will be part of the new 13 Pro lineup. Building upon this, AI imaging algorithms and AI image editing process image data to enhance the visual quality of photo and video content.
The new comprehensive approach is designed to take mobile photography to the next level, allowing users to "enjoy ultra-clear camera with AI from the convenience of their smartphone."

With the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 just around the corner, a massive leak has surfaced, revealing all the details about these upcoming foldable smartphones.
Upgrades and Improvements
The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 will feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which promises improved performance and efficiency. The Fold6 will be shorter and thinner than its predecessor, with a lighter overall weight. Meanwhile, the Flip6 will receive significant upgrades, including increased RAM, improved cameras, and a larger battery capacity.
Display and Design
The Galaxy Z Fold6's screen will boast a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits, and despite its unchanged battery capacity, it promises better battery life due to superior efficiency, delivering two extra hours of video playback per charge. The phone will weigh 239 grams, 14 grams lighter than its predecessor, and will be 1.4 mm shorter, 2.7 mm wider, and 0.5 mm thinner when folded. The cover screen diagonal is now 6.3 inches, while the main panel will have a slightly altered resolution with the new aspect.

The Galaxy Z Flip6, on the other hand, will see more significant updates. Its main camera now boasts a 50 MP sensor and maintains an f/1.8 aperture. Notably, the leaked specs suggest an IPS panel over OLED for the cover screen, which seems a bit hard to believe, but we'll see. Despite a slight reduction in thickness, the Flip6 will sport a larger 4,000 mAh battery and incorporate a vapor chamber inside. Compared to the Flip5, the frame and hinge colors are now more prominent.

A Boston-based venture capital firm, led by a team of U.S. military veterans, has secured $150 million for its second fund. The company invests in startups whose products are purchased by both civilians and the U.S. Department of Defense.
While many emerging venture capital firms are struggling to raise second funds, J2 Ventures' latest vehicle is more than double its $67.5 million debut fund from 2021.
The firm's portfolio is focused on national-security adjacent technologies, but not directly on defense tech. Instead, J2 Ventures backs companies whose products support the well-being and healthcare of the nearly 3 million people employed by the U.S. Military.

The firm's managing partner, Alexander Harstrick, highlighted the historical track record of the Department of Defense adopting new technologies before they become popular with civilians. For example, the Department of Veterans Affairs was the first to use telemedicine and also adopted electronic health records.
J2 Ventures' healthcare investments include Tasso, a maker of needle-free blood draw technology, and Lumia Health, a wearable device that measures blood flow to the brain. The firm also backs cybersecurity, infrastructure, and advanced computing startups like Femtosense, a developer of energy-efficient AI chips for smart devices.
The firm invests in companies at the pre-seed stage to Series A and writes checks ranging from $1 million to $5 million. Its limited partners include JP Morgan and New Mexico State Investment Council.
Harstrick, a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan before starting J2 Ventures. Prior to that, he was an investor in the Defense Innovation Unit.

Wild Rumor Claiming There Won't Be a Samsung Galaxy S25+ Gets Instantly Refuted

A recent rumor claimed that Samsung would not release a Galaxy S25+ model, sparking debate among fans. However, this rumor was quickly refuted by another source, which stated that the company is still developing three S25 models as expected.
The initial rumor claimed that the S25+ model was missing from an IMEI database, leading to speculation that it might not be released. However, this argument is weak, considering that there is still plenty of time for the model to be added to the database before its theoretical launch.
Another source has since come forward, claiming that the development of the S25 series is proceeding as usual, with three models codenamed F1, F2, and F3, corresponding to the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, respectively. These models have the model numbers SM-S931, SM-S936, and SM-S938, respectively.
It's unclear who to believe at this point. If Samsung has indeed given up on the plus model, we can expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks and months. If not, then this rumor will likely fade away.
