DDoS attacks target EU political parties as elections begin
The European Parliament elections are already underway in the Netherlands and are set to begin in 26 more countries across the EU over the coming days, igniting politically motivated cyberattacks.
Cloudflare reports that it has mitigated at least three distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack waves on various election-related sites in the Netherlands, as well as several political parties.
The internet company has shared information about two DDoS attacks occurring on June 5 and 6.
The first one peaked at 115 million requests per hour, with one site getting hit with 73,000 requests per second for four hours.
The second DDoS attack was a bit lighter, reaching 44 million requests per hour and peaking at 52,000 requests per second on one of the targets, once again targeting political sites in the Netherlands.

Ariane Systems self check-in systems installed at thousands of hotels worldwide are vulnerable to a kiosk mode bypass flaw that could allow access to guests’ personal information and the keys for other rooms.
These terminals allow people to book and check into the hotel themselves, handle the payment process via a POS subsystem, print invoices, and provision RFID transponders used as room keys.

Attackers attempted to utilize Signal messaging to infect Ukrainian civil service officials and military personnel, the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine (SSSCIP) has reported.
According to SSSCIP, Signal is commonly used among the Ukrainian military. Security experts have lauded the app for taking extra measures to safeguard user privacy, when compared to other messaging platforms.

361 million stolen accounts leaked on Telegram added to HIBP
A massive trove of 361 million email addresses from credentials stolen by password-stealing malware, in credential stuffing attacks, and from data breaches was added to the Have I Been Pwned data breach notification service, allowing anyone to check if their accounts have been compromised.
Cybersecurity researchers collected these credentials from numerous Telegram cybercrime channels, where the stolen data is commonly leaked to the channel's users to build reputation and subscribers.
The stolen data is usually leaked as username and password combinations (usually stolen via credential stuffing attacks or data breaches), username and passwords along with a URL associated with them (stolen via password-stealing malware), and raw cookies (stolen via password-stealing malware).

New York Times source code leak on 4chan, days after Disney leak
The leak comes just two days after seemingly an unrelated threat actor, associated with the defunct online game Club Penguin, claimed to have breached Disney’s internal servers, also posting links to the handiwork on 4chan.
The Disney hacker was allegedly able to download a 2.5GB swath of sensitive corporate data, with some files dated as recently as June 1st, but more on that below.
As for The New York Times (NYT), a breach post claiming the historic news organization was created on 4chan at about 9:30 p.m. Eastern daylight time on June 6th.
Hacker repository vx-underground first posted about the Times leak on X, noting that they did not have a chance to examine the alleged 270 GB of stolen data. “Today on 4chan someone leaked the source code (?) to the New York Times. They leaked 270GB of data,” vx-underground said.

Duolingo succumbs to Russian LGBT censorship demands
Freemium language learning platform Duolingo has agreed to remove all content “with LGBT propaganda” from the app, the Russian news agency TASS reported, citing a letter to Roskomandzor.
Roskomnadzor demanded that Duolingo check its content for “the dissemination of LGBT propaganda” and eliminate violations. LGBT organizations are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation
“The Duolingo company sent a response letter to Roskomnadzor, in which it confirmed that it had removed materials promoting non-traditional sexual relationships from the educational application,” the department spokesperson said to TASS.
The fines for “LGBT propaganda” in Russia range from 1 to 4 million rubles, or about $11,000–$45,000.

Stop using the Humane AI Pin charger: it might catch fire
The charger for the Humane AI Pin is turning out to be a potential safety hazard.
Humane has contacted users, asking them to stop using the device’s charging case as it “may pose a fire safety risk.”
The message was sent to Humane users via email, reports the Verge, while no information on the matter can be found on its website or social media.
In the email, the company asked AI Pin users to stop using its “Charge Case Accessory” immediately because of problems related to “certain battery cells.”
Humane’s AI Pin is “the first multi-modal device that is wearable and easy to use.” The device was launched this year and received much attention as it was seen as a technology that could possibly replace smartphones.
However, this was soon proven to be far from reality, as negative reviews of Humane AI Pin started to appear. These included an overheating device, a quickly dying battery, and a number of system bugs.

Researcher Develops ‘TotalRecall’ Tool That Can Extract Data From Microsoft Recall
While Microsoft’s forthcoming Recall feature has already sparked security and privacy concerns, the tech giant attempted to downplay those reactions by stating that collected data would remain on the user’s device.
Despite this reassurance, concerns remain, as researchers – including the developer of a new tool dubbed “TotalRecall” – have observed various inherent vulnerabilities in the local database maintained by Recall, lending credibility to critics of Microsoft’s implementation of the AI tool.
Recall is a new Windows AI tool planned for Copilot+ PCs that captures screenshots from user devices every five seconds, then storing the data in a local database. The tool’s announcement, however, led many to fear that this process would make sensitive information on devices susceptible to unauthorized access.

Microsoft India’s X account hijacked in Roaring Kitty crypto scam
The official Microsoft India account on Twitter, with over 211,000 followers, was hijacked by cryptocurrency scammers to impersonate Roaring Kitty, the handle used by notorious meme stock trader Keith Gill.
Microsoft India's X account has a gold check as an officially verified organization on the platform, lending the hijackers' posts more legitimacy.
The threat actors take advantage of Gill's recent comeback to lure potential victims and infect them with cryptocurrency wallet drainer malware.
They are now using Microsoft India's hijacked account to reply to tweets, luring the company's followers and other people on X to a malicious website (presaIe-roaringkitty[.]com) that would allegedly allow them to buy GameStop (GME) crypto as part of a so-called presale.
