Massacre at Thacker Pass - 1865
The 1865 massacre, part of what historian Gregory Michno describes as “a summer-long hunt for renegade Indians,” began when soldiers departed their camp near Willow Creek, less than a mile east of Sentinel Rock.
On September 12th, 1865 at one am, the 1st Nevada Cavalry moved to surround a nearby camp of northern Paiute people west of Willow Creek in Thacker Pass, but were discovered. The Cavalry moved in with guns blazing, and the camp was all but wiped out.
In his book “The Deadliest Indian War in the West,” Michno writes that the massacre “lasted three hours and stretched out for several miles.”
Many Paiutes were also believed to be wounded. One cavalryman was wounded, but none killed.
There were three survivors: two infants who were taken by a soldier, and one young man who fled on horseback.

One Week Update — Second tipi up!
After a week of peaceful, prayerful resistance at PeeHee Mu’huh, the Fort McDermitt Paiute Shoshone elders and their relatives are erecting another tipi at their traditional cultural property, Pee’zuh (Nipple Rock). This comes a day after Lithium Americas tore open land adjacent to Pee’zuh for their water pipeline.
The Fort McDermitt Paiute Shoshone Tribal elders/members were never consulted, re: requirements by the National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and more about destroying PeeHee Muhah and Pee’zuh for the world’s largest open pit lithium mine. Lithium Nevada is adversely affecting this land irreversably!
This second tipi is being erected in order to continue ceremonial prayers for the ongoing destruction of Paiute and Shoshone homelands.

Ox Sam Camp is named after one of the only survivors of the 1865 Thacker Pass Massacre, a man who was the direct ancestor of the many of the people who are gathered here.
Elders are asking for supporters to come to the site and take part in the ongoing ceremony of protection for water and for the land. Please share and help spread the word.

A cybercrime enterprise known as Lemon Group is leveraging millions of pre-infected Android smartphones worldwide to carry out their malicious operations, posing significant supply chain risks.
"The infection turns these devices into mobile proxies, tools for stealing and selling SMS messages, social media and online messaging accounts and monetization via advertisements and click fraud," cybersecurity firm Trend Micro said.
The activity encompasses no fewer than 8.9 million compromised Android devices, particularly budget phones, with the highest concentration of the infections discovered in the U.S., Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand, Russia, South Africa, India, Angola, the Philippines, and Argentina.

Lithium mines are being built on sacred land, where the massacres used to take place.
In this soil lie the bones of the ancestors. It is soaked with blood.
Now all the land there is being destroyed, the plants, the animals. It is already a parched land and millions of gallons of water are wasted every day for the mines.
The Colorado river is drying up. The natives who live there will die.
It's genocide 2023! And no one cares.
It tears my heart out to see how a few old people are holding out and trying to protect the land.

A new business model for breaking down environmental movements was being hatched in real time. On Labor Day weekend in 2016, private security dogs in North Dakota attacked pipeline opponents led by members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe as they approached earth-moving equipment. The tribal members considered the land sacred, and the heavy equipment was breaking ground to build the Dakota Access pipeline. With a major public relations crisis on its hands, the pipeline’s parent company, Energy Transfer, hired the firm TigerSwan to revamp its security strategy.
