I honestly thought humanity would be annihilated before we ever had a chance to develop things like AI and superconductors. You know this material can make shit levitate? That’s cool. It’s lead with some of the ions replaced with copper. I don’t understand the chemistry at all. Apparently the chemical structure of it (LK-99) is novel. It puts a bunch of stress in all the right places so that electrons pass through it with no resistance. It looks like a regular chunk of lead to me.

Why is it “magic” and not a program? Because it wasn’t made using human hands. It was made by feeding a shitload of data into a model that is supposed to just predict the next word in a sentence. That’s all. We’ve had these models for a while, sports news in particular has been automated using machine learning since before this AI craze.

Now imagine the same robot that writes magazines is suddenly able to write code or do algebra or… lie… and you start to see the cliff edge where science ends and magic (or madness) begins. This technology was always super useful, but the fact that it can do more than just write articles… That’s what makes it magic.
