A 1960s building in Nijmegen (Netherlands) was voted "the ugliest building in town".
It was demolished and replaced by a new building resembling (albeit rather poorly) what was there before.

Before & After in Oslo, Norway.
A soulless modernist building was renovated to sit comfortably with the character and architectural traditions of the city.
Same building, new face.
Implemented in 1986 by architects Sigmund Sontum and Piotr Choynowski.
The Berlin Palace has been rebuilt.
Royal residence of the House of Hohenzollern from 1443 to 1918. It was damaged by bombing in 1945 and later demolished by the communists in the 1950s.
Its modernist replacement was demolished in 2009 and reconstruction started in 2013.

This great baroque palace in Poland was built in the 18th century by a noble Prussian family, plundered by the red army after WWII and later burnt down.
Polish businessman Dariusz Miłek bought the ruins and restored the palace.

The ugly 1960s modernist extension was removed and replaced by a new pavilion and walled garden which stand in harmony with the original house (built 1610).
