Set within Álvaro Siza’s Matosinhos Sul Urbanization Plan, the renovation of the former Brandão & Companhia canning factory transforms an industrial relic into a mixed-use development combining a medical laboratory, clinic, offices, commercial spaces, and housing.
The design restores the building’s original envelope and chimney while introducing permeable courtyards that bring light deep into the block and connect diverse programs. Materials—pigmented concrete and aluminum plate—contrast the solidity of the historic structure with lightweight, sea-inspired volumes elevated above the central patio.
By balancing past and present, the project reactivates the site, weaving public space, greenery, and new functions into the city’s fabric.

A multidisciplinary team of XISUI Design has created a 3D concrete-printed playground in Shandong Province, China.
Named Boulder Park, a 13,000-square-metre community park in Ji’nan, combines massive boulders - a natural material symbolizing eternity - as the core design element. These boulders complement the park’s experiential and practical offerings.
Stones in the shallow creek can be incorporated into the water play installation, and boulders set over a sandpit can be used as climbing and resting play structures. Additionally, cutting-edge 3D-printed concrete technology is used to build a huge rock cave adventure area.

Riyadh’s 176-kilometre new metro opens this weekend, taking the title of the world’s longest driverless transit system.
The station’s concrete lattice facade is inspired by the patterns of desert sands and designed to reduce solar gain while nodding to the region’s vernacular architecture. The building has achieved a LEED Gold rating from the US Green Building Council.

Positioned on the south bank of the Dongyang River, the Yiwu Grand Theater is currently under construction, set to become a new cultural anchor for one of China’s most globally connected cities.
The complex will include a large theater, medium theater, and international conference center, all designed to serve a growing demand for civic gathering and cultural expression.
Drawing inspiration from the traditional Chinese junks and the curves of Jiangnan-style architecture, its layered glass facade creates a sense of lightness and movement mirroring the city’s heritage while looking forward with a quiet kind of futurism.
Visitors will arrive by water, bridges, or promenade moving through a network of public platforms, rooftop gardens, and shaded walkways that wrap the building. Inside, soft and translucent interiors blend natural light with optimized acoustics to shape a floating, immersive performance space.
With its riverfront setting and layered public experience, Yiwu Grand Theater is designed to bring people closer to culture, nature, and one another championing publicness, humanistic care, and the spirit of dialogue at an urban scale.

AYDC Public Art Center - the Ginkgo Chapel, Guiyang, China
.
The Ginkgo Chapel, nestled among the trees on the hillside, is held aloft by four massive, ginkgo-inspired stone leaves. As visitors pass through the narrow gap between the curved metallic spheres, they step into the central “void”. Here, one looks upward to greet the shifting light and listens to the soft whispers of the wind as it dances through the ginkgo leaves.
Since its completion, the chapel has become a stage for independent artistic gatherings, where dance, music, and literary readings unfold — a place where architecture gently weaves itself into local memory, the rhythms of nature, and the soul of public life.

The different openings in the #concrete volumetry create poetic #shadows that dance as the sunlight changes. This design decision breaks the rigidity of the material, due to the contrast between solid and immaterial.

Quay Quarter Tower has been named the winner of "World Building of the Year" at World Architecture Festival 2022!
