The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York has approved bankrupt crypto lender Celsius Network’s plan to convert its altcoins into Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). The liquidations will pave the way for the distribution of the funds to creditors in the near future.

IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva revealed that the IMF is actively developing a platform dedicated to facilitating transactions between countries via central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). This move reflects the IMF’s commitment to fostering global interoperability by encouraging central banks to establish a unified regulatory framework for digital currencies. According to Georgieva, a total of 114 central banks worldwide are currently exploring the potential of CBDCs, with approximately 10 of them already making significant progress in their development.

The largest bank in Germany in terms of total assets – Deutsche Bank – has reportedly sought regulatory permission to start operating as a crypto custodian. “We’re building out our digital assets and custody business,” David Lynne – an executive at the bank – stated.

Chairman Powell believes the Federal Reserve should play a role in governing the stablecoin market. “We do see payments stablecoins as a form of money,” Powell said on Wednesday. Invesco – an American investment company with over $1.4 trillion of assets under management – reactivated its attempts to launch a Bitcoin Spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States. WisdomTree – another US finance giant – submitted a similar application to the SEC. The latest efforts come a few days after the world’s largest asset manager filed with the securities regulator to introduce a BTC Spot ETF in the States.

Binance’s U.S. subsidiary has challenged claims from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that the company mismanaged user assets as “misleading.” In a motion filed on Wednesday, the exchange pointed to contradictory statements from the regulator suggesting that customers’ assets have not, in fact, been transferred outside of the United States. If Binance’s filing is approved, it could prevent the SEC from making certain public statements, and thus affecting the market as Binance has alleged.

On June 22, the IMF reported on the benefits of CBDCs noting that they could lower remittance costs and improve financial inclusion. It also stated that crypto needs to be regulated for digital assets to safely remain part of the payment system. However, in conclusion, the IMF painted a positive picture of the crypto industry saying that outright bans are not effective.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) – the largest finance institution in Japan – is reportedly considering issuing global stablecoins via its blockchain platform. In a recent interview, Fadi Aboualfa, the head of research at crypto brokerage Copper, expressed that the existing Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) models are "not a viable cash equivalent that people could use in daily transactions." In the interview, he stated, "There hasn't been an actual CBDC model that is technically a replacement for cash. A pair of researchers from the University of Tsukuba in Japan recently built an artificial intelligence-powered cryptocurrency portfolio management system that utilizes on-chain data for training, the first of its kind, according to the scientists. Called CryptoRLPM, short for “Cryptocurrency reinforcement learning portfolio manager,” the artificial intelligence (AI) system utilizes a training technique called “reinforcement learning” to implement on-chain data into its model.

Bitcoin will be the currency of artificial intelligence (AI) and could reach a price per coin of $760,000 in the process, Arthur Hayes says. In his latest essay titled “Massa” the former BitMEX CEO concluded that the AI revolution would naturally gravitate toward BTC. “Bitcoin is the logical currency choice for any AI. It is purely digital, censorship resistant, provably scarce, and its intrinsic value is completely electricity-cost-dependent. There is nothing in existence today that comes close to challenging Bitcoin on these aspects”, Hayes said.

A hospital in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul has become the first in the nation to accept crypto pay. Per the Brazilian media outlet Livecoins, the hospital in question is the Rolante Hospital Foundation (FHR), a large general hospital in the municipality of Rolante. Rolante had become the “largest crypto adoption hub in Brazil.” Hotels, tourism firms and hang gliding firms in the municipality already accept a range of tokens, including BTC.

On June 28, software analytics firm MicroStrategy announced the corporate purchase of 12,333 Bitcoin (BTC), worth $347 million at the time of publication. Blockchain fintech company Paxos and online marketplace MercadoLibre (NASDAQ: MELI) have entered a partnership to bring the Pax Dollar (USDP) stablecoin to Mexico via the MercadoPago payment service on June 28. According to a press release shared with Cointelegraph, USDP will be available to all MercadoPago customers throughout Mexico.

On June 28, the European Commission announced it had proposed a legislative plan for a digital euro, aiming to make it a widely accepted and easily accessible form of payment. The announcement emphasized that allowing individuals to obtain digital euros through their banks upon request ensures easy accessibility and prevents citizens from being left behind. The proposal also includes provisions for free basic digital euro services, privacy protection and offline payments.

Buterin's empathetic sentiment sheds light on the challenges faced by the whole blockchain ecosystem. Instead of seeing this as a competitive struggle between Ethereum and other projects, he views the real competition as the expanding centralized world imposing itself on the crypto space.

JP Morgan, the U.S.-based investment bank, has widened the scope of its blockchain-oriented payment platform, JPM Coin, to include euro-based transactions for corporate customers.
JPM Coin, initiated in 2019, operates as a live application with the intention of offering an alternative, blockchain-based method for processing payments. It is reported that since its inception, JP Morgan has facilitated approximately $300 billion worth of transactions via JPM Coin.
