Mavka, a monster in Ukrainian folklore
Читать полностью…A most telling example is a marble monument known as the Archelaos Relief, conventionally dated to the second century BCE. The lower zone of the relief sculpture shows an enthroned Homer receiving sacrificial offerings while the upper zone shows Zeus himself, holding a scepter. Similarly, Homer holds a scepter, which is in his left hand. Also, he holds a scroll in his right hand. There is no mistake about the identification of Homer here, since the Archelaos Relief features adjacent lettering that reads ΟΜΗΡΟΣ (Homēros).

Medieval Europe was so superficially christian that in folklore a priest is a butt of countless jokes and is characterized by greed and gluttony, typically trying to take advantage of the hero in one way or another.

This kind of reticence was encountered among the healers interviewed for this study. One healer said that he could not share his incantation with anyone lest he should lose his power to heal. He threatened the researcher with spells if she tried to harm him or his powers. Another healer said that if she told anyone her incantations, she would lose her powers. She said that when she was ready to retire she would pass on her incantations.

We rejected earlier the claim that Old Comedy was irreligious. A counter-claim can be advanced, that Aristophanes was positively good for piety. The gods of Old Comedy altogether lack the fearfulness of those of tragedy. The heroes of Old Comedy, despite and even because of their failings, are amiable figures. The same is true mutatis mutandis of its gods. Old Comedy enabled the Athenians to like their gods a little more than they might otherwise have done.

Some people wonder why Pagan Revivalism is happening? Others ask why now?
Today, every judeo-christian denomination, catholic, orthodox and protestant have sold out European folk. In order for someone to stab you in the back, they first need to "be behind you." Judeo-christianity was always globalism 1.0, bent on the destruction of the uniqueness of the peoples it conquered, turning them into abject slaves. Once their slaves outlive their usefulness, they're slaughtered as disposable tools.
Pagan Revivalism is happening now because it needs to happen now. Our future as a people is entirely dependent upon coming home to true values, from true Gods, and our true ancestors. "A wayfarer should have his weapons at hand" is far more useful and not subversive like "turn the other cheek."
The desert demon and it's acolytes are being exposed, their evils and conspiracies revealed with the light of our blessed Gods & Goddesses. Consequently, our revival is not just essential, its inevitable. No truces with traitors.

Читать полностью…The circumstances in which the Vikings of the ninth and tenth centuries usually adopted Christianity — their rather short visits to royal courts or negotiations in the course of their attacks — did not provide opportunities for prolonged instructions in Christian teaching. In rare cases when we know or can calculate the time of their stay in a Christian milieu before their baptism, it usually turns to be not more than a month or two.

Читать полностью…In some senses, the folk healer is both a medical and spiritual healer. The relationship between official religion and folk healing is similar to the relationship between official medicine and folk healing. Even if many members of the laity have respected the folk healers, leaders of the Christian churches have generally been intolerant of other perceptions of the spiritual world. Folk healers have been officially seen as insubordinate to Christian teachings. In attempts to banish people's links with paganism, churchmen canvassed against wizards and witches and others who were believed to be engaged in magic.

Some folk medicine is common knowledge within a society, and can
be performed by almost anyone. However, home remedies do not always result in a cure. Specialized members of the community may then be called upon. The skills of such specialists may be attributed to their greater experience and knowledge, but often also to their talent or innate powers. A Wise Man or Wise Woman is endowed with an especial rapport with the spiritual world. He or she can communicate with that world and pacify the spirits, thereby restoring health and equilibrium to the society.

It is well known that, in England in the 16th and 17th centuries, the godly looked at the theatre askance; in 1606 an act was passed to ‘prevent and avoyde the greate abuse of the Holy Name of God in Stageplayes, Interludes, Maygames, Shewes and such like’.
Greek plays were performed at a public religious festival, and there are few tragedies that do not contain a reference to a god or gods in the first twenty lines.

The image of Christ for those Norsemen who accepted him as a God seems to be far from the one current in the Christian world of that time.
The notion of the suffering Christ was not conceived by the Vikings and ‘would have been regarded as almost absurd’ by them, although they could not have failed to see crucifixes with the suffering Christ in Western Europe and Byzantium.

The commander of the Amazons, Melanippe, who was also greatly admired for her manly courage, now lost her supremacy. And Heracles, after thus killing the most renowned of the Amazons, and forcing the remaining multitude to turn in flight, cut down the greater number of them, so that the race of them was utterly exterminated.

Then he joined battle with Prothoe, who, they said, had been victorious seven times over the opponents whom she had challenged to battle. When she fell, the fourth whom he overcame was known as Eriboea. She had boasted that because of the manly bravery which she displayed in contests of war she had no need of anyone to help her, but she found her claim was false when she encountered her better.
