In the previous post I’ve quoted from Euripedes’ play The Bacchae. It’s an interesting work not just because it shows us some of the early atheistic tactics, but also because of the many parallels to draw between the plot and parts of the Bible. The king defying Dionysus and getting punished for it is similar to the pharo in Exodus and the plagues. The play presents Dionysus as a God who turned himself into a mortal and travelled the world (mostly Asia) spreading his new cult. People think him a foreign miracle worker. Needless to say that’s rather close to jesus. And just like the latter Euripedes’ Dionysus lets soldiers take him to the king and be interrogated. Doesn’t let mortals torture and kill him though, quite the contrary. He destroys the king’s palace in a spectacular display of power.

Replacing one fantastical story with another, slightly more believable was a tiny step, but it had consequences. This is how atheists sowed first seeds of doubt. If one myth is just a folly, why can’t all of them be? The Overton Window shift started small but it eventually led to the success of christianity in Greece as it borrowed philosophical revisions (chiefly platonic) and further down the line current ubiquitous atheism with purely performative religiosity. Ask modern christians whether they believe that Moses literally split the sea or question a fake pagan on the reality of myth and you’ll see that actual belief is mostly lost even among people whose identity is built on practicing a religion.

How first atheists reinterpreted myth

Early atheists-philosophers had issues with mythology. To them it was a superstition to be reformed or abandoned outright. The latter, more radical option was less popular since the majority of the Greeks were still religious. Thus atheists started small by targeting more fantastical myths. For example the birth of Dionysus. Son of Zeus and mortal Semele Dionysus was still in his mother’s womb when Zeus’ wife Hera in her jealousy tricked Semele into making Zeus kill her. Dionysus (still a fetus) was saved by his father who sewed him into his thigh and in a way, gave birth to Dionysus himself. It’s definitely a peculiar story, one ancient atheists tried to reinterpret.

One ai "artist" whipped out a generated slop pic of a horse saying that it’s objectively better than the cave paintings I’ve given as an example of true art. The guy also mentioned that it took him 30 seconds to create it aka tell the program to make it. Progressivists have no souls so they can’t realize that what they do is soulless. Art is not art if it was created by a machine. It has nothing to do with quality. It’s not about depth, shading or scale. It’s not about realism. A child can create art infinitely more valuable than the most advanced computer.

You know that being a religious person in a true sense of the world I deny any and all forms of evolution and the very concept of progress. Progressivism has been a disaster for humanity. It’s what christianity stands on since it can’t exist without a "progression" from the supposed primitive demon worship to the birth and death of jesus and subsequent spread of the gospel. Progressivism, is of course at the centre of so-called Axial trends (I can’t call them religions since it would be an oxymoron) both before and after christianity such as platonism, zoroastrianism, communism, scientism etc. Ancient cave art is a good illustration of my anti-progressivism. Despite being indescribably older than any work of art made today these paintings are as good, if not better than what current artists produce. There is no progress in art, it just is. Unlike the tools used in it’s creation art can not develop, it’s fundamentally anti-progressivist and yet it speaks to human soul like nothing else. I have had more meaningful, memorable and even life-changing conversations with books, songs and paintings than with any person. And neither age, nor putative quality of a work or art had nothing to do with the effect it produced.

To sum up, Amazons did not fight alone, so it wasn’t girls vs boys. Amazons had their queen to thank for the successful routing of the enemy troops. Said queen was no mortal woman, but a daughter of Ares, the God of War himself, clad in divine armor and armed with an equally impressive weapon. Penthesileia lost to Achilles who was a fair fight since they were both demigods, though it’s worth noting that Achilles wasn’t related to an Olympic God like the Amazon as his mother was just a sea nymph.

As always proper analysis beats a subversive narrative.

Penthesileia was not an average woman, not even an average Amazon, but a child of Ares himself. She wore armor given by Ares and far beyond human craftsmanship.

…Then did she array
Her shoulders in those wondrous-fashioned arms
Given her of the War-god.

She was also armed with a divine weapon.

…her strong right hand laid hold
On a huge halberd, sharp of either blade,
Which terrible Eris gave to Ares' child
To be her Titan weapon in the strife
That raveneth souls of men.

Amazons were not fighting alone. In fact, it doesn’t seem like they were that large of a force since it takes a lot of time to move a giant army. Troy was already loosing hope after Hector’s death and desperately needed help.
So Amazons are fighting alongside the men (who likely were a majority).

The Trojan thousands followed to the fray,
The pitiless fray, that death-doomed warrior-maid,
Followed in throngs, as follow sheep the ram
That by the shepherd's art strides before all.
So followed they, with battle-fury filled,
Strong Trojans and wild-hearted Amazons.

Back to the original question. Did the jews who wrote the story of Paul’s conversion take inspiration from Euripides? Robert M.Price who argues that there was never a historical jesus (which I agree with) stated in an interview that the tale of Paul meeting jesus on the road to Damascus was copied from The Bacchae. Having re-read the play I can’t agree. The only real similarity between the two tales is both Pentheus and Saul being the enemies of a new religious movement. But Paul converts from a prosecutor of christians to a self-proclaimed apostle, while Pentheus is charmed by Dionysus, lured into a trap and brutally murdered. Unlike jesus, Dionysus didn’t appear before his mortal foe in divine form. Pentheus did mention seeing Dionysus’ horns, but still didn’t recognize him as a God since he’d been driven mad.

One such attempt is found in Euripides’ play The Bacchantes. The original myth is replaced with a new, supposedly more realistic one and explained away as a simple mistake which blew out of proportions. Quote:

He, being a god, is poured out to the gods,
so human beings receive fine benefits
as gifts from him. And yet you mock him. Why?
Because he was sewn into Zeus thigh?
Well, I’ll show you how this all makes sense.
When Zeus grabbed him from the lightning flame,
he brought him to Olympus as a god.
But Hera wished to throw him out of heaven.
So Zeus, in a manner worthy of a god,
came up with a devious counter plan.
From the sky which flows around the earth,
Zeus broke off a piece, shaped it like Dionysus,
then gave that to Hera, as a hostage.
The real child he sent to nymphs to raise,
thus saving him from Hera’s jealousy.
Over time people mixed up “sky” and “thigh,”
saying he’d come from Zeus’s thigh, changing words,
because he, a god, had once been hostage
to goddess Hera. So they made up the tale.

Origins always end up influencing the views. Today many, far too many, are obsessed with individuality. Encouraged to be an individual which is just a fancy was of saying self-centered. Since the ones who rule over us want their cattle to be weak. They promote individualized, multicultural, multinational, areligious society as a new, superior norm. Ancient societies were communal. One was less himself and more a member of a clan, family, ethnicity. In traditional societies one writes his family name before the personal one. Looking back at my own life I notice how I was destined to become a typical example of my people even though it was not my intention. German and East Slavic, with a little Greek is a good way to describe my approach to life with strong anti-christian stance, attraction to art and disdain for sciences (though a few Greek degenerates did help create some). Both at micro and macro level one is shaped by ancestry.

Both Greek and Amazons kill each other. Penthesileia slays multiple warriors and is unharmed herself. She rallies the enemy ranks and Greeks quail before her. But as soon as Achilles enters the battle he defeats Penthesileia (despite them both being of divine blood and with godly arms). This breaks the Trojan morale and they flee.

Now when the Trojans saw the Warrior-queen
Struck down in battle, ran through all their lines
A shiver of panic. Straightway to their walls
Turned they in flight, heart-agonized with grief.

Are Amazons woke?

It’s an old question but I haven’t seen it answered with the sources and decided to do it myself. Firstly, what does woke mean in this context. Probably modern takes about women being equal to men (if not superior). Initially it does seem like the ancients considered Amazons to be as good as men. In recently posted fragments of Quintus’ Posthomerica they are said to "fall not short of men in anything". Keep in mind that this is a poetic, epic retelling of actual events. Stripped of the poetic beauty it went as follows:
Amazons join the war. By that time Greeks and Trojans had already been at it for years. Meanwhile Amazons have just arrived as fresh as it gets. And they were already experienced, since Amazons were raised for war.

After killing Culann’s dog Setanta decided to serve Culann in the lost pet’s stead. Thus the new name the boy hero got Cu Chulainn which means Culann’s hound.

Cathbad the druid, chiming in, declared that not in his own person could he have done it better, and that henceforth the boy must bear the name Cu Chulainn, ‘Culann’s Hound.’ The youngster, however, objected; ‘I like my own name better: Setanta mac Sualtach.’
“‘Say not so,’ Cathbad remonstrated; ‘for all men in the world shall have their mouths full of that name.’
“The boy answered that on those terms the name would be well pleasing to him, and in this way it came to pass that it stuck to him.

—What’s the God like? Old, young?
—Haven’t you been in a church?
—I have.
—Haven’t you seen then? There’s a lot of different Gods there. Both old and young. After all, there’s a lot of Gods.

A Belarusian interviewed from a collection of ethnographic research conducted from 1992 to 2012 and preserved in U.Lobach’s 2013 monograph (think about those numbers). Clearly the interviewee considered major christian figures to be different Gods. The icons seen in the church which featuring saints, angels and jesus were used to support the claim. Such profound misunderstanding of christian doctrine is yet another proof of the superficial character of christianization in Europe (especially Eastern parts of it).

Then over her with scornful laugh the son
Of Peleus vaunted: “In the dust lie there
A prey to teeth of dogs, to ravens' beaks,
Thou wretched thing! Who cozened thee to come
Forth against me? And thoughtest thou to fare
Home from the war alive, to bear with thee
Right royal gifts from Priam the old king,
Thy guerdon for slain Argives? Ha, 'twas not
The Immortals who inspired thee with this thought,
Who know that I of heroes mightiest am,
The Danaans' light of safety, but a woe
To Trojans and to thee, O evil-starred!
Nay, but it was the darkness-shrouded Fates
And thine own folly of soul that pricked thee on
To leave the works of women, and to fare
To war, from which strong men shrink shuddering back.”

Quintus of Smyrna
