Later in life Marko fought a vila (nymph) after one killed his friend Milos who was a great bard and whose singing voice made the vila envious. She took her bow and shoot two arrows at Milos, but Marko chased the nymph on his loyal steed Sharatz and beat her with his signature golden mace until the vila pleaded for mercy and promised to bring Milos back to life with magical herbs. Marko let her go and the nymph did as the had promised. The tale became a ballad. Sadly, the author is not known.

The organization hosting the ceremony was not a truly Pagan one. Supreme Council of Ethnic Hellenes does not represent Greek pre-christian religion. They are neither ethnically, nor racially exclusive and let homosexuals in. The FAQ section of their site also reveals that the organization does not believe in myth and sees Gods as abstractions with no traditional characteristics i.e. race, ethnicity and sex. Thus they shamelessly contradict their own mythical tradition and practices.

In various regions of Ukraine, specifically the Carpathians, there were widespread beliefs and stories that great sinners, specifically witches and sorcerers, could only die peacefully once they had passed on their magical powers and knowledge to a successor. This successor could be a very close person who wanted or agreed to take up the "craft," or someone who acquired it unintentionally through the sorcerer's tricks (such as by shaking hands or taking a thing from him).

Some Eastern authors distinguish between the Rus and the Slavs. Researchers have entertained the idea that the "Rus" were not a people (although a mid-9th-century author wrote that "the Rus are a tribe of the Slavs") but rather a ruling social group. This notion (incorrect in such a simplistic formulation) should evidently be expressed as follows: the Rus were the inhabitants of the most advanced East Slavic land (which took its name from the hegemonic tribe) and which, over the course of three centuries, subjugated a number of other Slavic lands; not all inhabitants of Rus belonged to the ruling social group, yet the kings and warriors of the Rus were above the kings and warrior bands of other Slavic lands during the 7th–9th centuries.

One day he found a vila's lost children and helped them. As a reward she suckled him three times, and he could lift and throw a huge stone. In another legend, Marko’s mother was a vila.

This case brings us back to the ultimate litmus test. Whenever faced with a contradiction between modern worldview and ancient one a fake pagan alway sides with modernity. But since he can’t outright admit to not believing in Gods there’s an attempt to subvert the definition of a God from a physical being to an abstract one. Survive the Jive infamously failed this test years ago when he released an article titled Is Odin a Cuckold? and I exposed him for it. Others followed my example. Today Paganism is being refined as more and more Pagans separate from fakes and I am proud to be at the tip of the spear even though it draws the fakes’ ire.

Among Twelfth Night customs, none is more celebrated than that called Mary Lwyd. It prevails in various parts of Wales, notably in lower Glamorganshire. The skeleton of a horse’s head is procured by the young men or boys of a village, and adorned with ‘favours’ of pink, blue, yellow, etc. These are generally borrowed from the girls, as it is not considered necessary the silken fillets and rosettes should be new, and such finery costs money. The bottoms of two black bottles are inserted in the sockets of the skeleton head to serve as eyes, and a substitute for ears is also contrived. On Twelfth Night they carry this object about from house to house, with shouts and songs, and a general cultivation of noise and racket.

I know it may sound comedic with all the merchant memes, but the Rus really did conquer with money, not swords. That’s why they were so focused on the route that connected Scandinavia and the Eastern Roman Empire. And it took them a while even with the trade advantage. To quote from Rybakov again, the size of Kyivan Rus is greatly exaggerated (intentionally) and was not even the scale of a modest-sized modern country (like Poland).

Why old tales don’t appeal to modern audience

No rules
How does magic or powers work in fairy tales? They just do. It’s not a strictly structured system with mana or fixed classes. Nerds can’t spend hours debating who’s the strongest, whose skill is the most OP, etc.

No modern writing cliches
Not every fairy tale has a three act structure, a character arc or a setup for the next story. Different tales about one hero can’t really be put in chronological order (except maybe the first and the last one). There’s no plot twists, no subversion of expectations, no references, foreshadowing or meta commentary.

No wokeness
There’s already a generation and a half who grew up in the world of girl bosses, diversity, millennial dialogue etc. Can a simple story about a hero saving a princess from a dragon even appeal to them?

One can argue that a crescent pendant aka lunnitsa should be considered Pagan after all since it’s just a Moon symbol which has no inherent connection to christianity, but on the other hand, some of those have christian crosses and were mostly popular in post-christian eras. When it comes to Slavic Paganism specifically lunnitsa pendants were found from 3d c. which is long before christianization, but it doesn’t mean they can’t be foreign especially considering that there’s a huge gap in findings from III-IVth c. to the Byzantium influenced female fashion of IX-X c.

On Rus’ territory the crescent pendants are observed, both during the 10th and 11th-13th centuries, as elements of necklaces side by side of unmistakably christian symbols which undermines their function as pagan amulets. One interpretation would be that they were ordinary female ornaments with some protective potential. Another explanation would be that the medieval Slavs perceived these pendants, like the amulets in Roman Catholic countries (successors of the Roman Empire), as a christian protective amulet and a symbol associated with the Virgin Mary.
