Since you’ve been passionate about physics for years but are now starting to question your path, it’s honestly a good time to pause and reflect realistically.
To be honest: studying physics isn’t easy. It’s intellectually demanding, emotionally frustrating at times, and the academic environment, especially ones that often emphasizes solving problems quickly, memorizing facts, and preparing for exams rather than thinking deeply or creatively. If you’re someone who wants to understand why things work and not just how to get the right answer, you may find the system frustrating, at least early on.
You mentioned that you feel dumb when you can't solve a problem. That’s completely normal because physics is meant to challenge you. But do aak yourself:
"Do I enjoy the process of struggling through hard problems and slowly understanding them, or do I only enjoy the result of solving them?"
If it’s only the latter, you might want to reconsider how much of your interest is in the idea of being a physicist versus the reality of doing physics.
Also ask yourself:
- What is it about physics that draws me in?
- Am I excited by the unknown, or more afraid of not being able to contribute anything meaningful?
- Am I okay with a long academic journey that may or may not lead to a job directly labeled “physicist”?

Now, in terms of career paths, a physics degree doesn’t only lead to theoretical research or teaching. There are applied fields like:
Nanoscience, Material Science, Geophysics, Medical Physics, Quantum Computing, Data Science and even Finance (quantitative roles)
These often deal with complex real-world problems and involve both math and imagination but they also offer more direct job opportunities after a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Curiosity is powerful, but so is clarity.

Hey , so I have a question I want to become a physicist,to be honest for almost a decade that is the only thing I could think of. But lately I am having doubts that may be I may not to suitable to become a physicist. I don’t know that my reasons are right 1. I feel dumb when I can’t solve a physics problem I want to study physics so that I can solve complicated problems,imagine situations . 2. It kind of blows my mind that theories given so far took this many peoples this many centuries and yet we lack a lot of knowledge about cosmos. 3.I feel Good when I solve difficult sums without any external help , not for marks in exam but it is self satisfactory. I am having doubt that am I intelligent enough to? Do I have what it takes to become a physicist? Should I pursued a major in physics. Can anyone give me advice what can or should I do

There are certain lasers used by space agencies to measure distance to moon, which I've seen in TV, and your laser's photon will diverge and reach the moon which we can't see

for starting, i'll say get a good grip on python and oops concepts, and learn some of the primary libraries used around ml, including numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn etc.

So I reflected one the questions you told me to think about. Yes, Sometimes I just want the damn answer but still if I don’t understand how it came or how this occurs I won’t be at peace until I understand it and can apply it .As for what draws me into physics it’s the theories that explains cosmos, you, me everything around me . The intention to explore the history and to predict future of universe. Yes, I am excited about the unknown, If I am meant to contribute I will , if not I will learn .Yes I am ok for a long commitment towards academics to cater my doubts about universe. But still there’s one thing I am not so sure there is some sort of hesitation sometimes that i may or may not be able to handle that pressure or that spark of curiosity will remain . What’s your opinion on this?
