Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are emerging as a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries due to the abundance and lower cost of sodium. Tin (Sn) is of particular interest in sodium-ion battery research for several reasons:

1. High Capacity: Tin can alloy with sodium, forming Na-Sn compounds that can theoretically offer high specific capacities. For instance, Na15Sn4 has a theoretical capacity of around 847 mAh/g, which is significantly higher than many other electrode materials.

2. Anode Material: Tin is primarily used as an anode material in SIBs. It undergoes alloying and dealloying reactions with sodium during the charge-discharge cycles. This property allows for high capacity storage, making it a strong candidate for improving the energy density of sodium-ion batteries.

3. Challenges:
- Volume Expansion: One of the primary challenges with using tin in SIBs is the significant volume expansion and contraction (over 400%) during the alloying and dealloying process. This can lead to mechanical stress, pulverization of the anode material, and ultimately, capacity fading.
- Cycling Stability: Maintaining cycling stability is a key challenge. Various strategies are being researched to mitigate the volume expansion issue, such as nanostructuring the tin, using composite materials, and developing novel binders and electrolytes.

4. Recent Advances:
- Nanostructuring: Creating nanosized tin particles can help accommodate volume changes better than bulk tin, improving cycling stability.
- Composites: Combining tin with other materials, such as carbon, can help buffer the volume changes and improve electrical conductivity.
- Electrolyte Engineering: Developing advanced electrolytes that can form stable solid-electrolyte interphases (SEI) on tin anodes can also enhance performance and longevity.

Overall, while tin-based anodes for sodium-ion batteries show significant promise due to their high capacity, overcoming the challenges related to volume expansion and cycling stability is crucial for their practical application.

If AISC ends up at say $22k (ignoring the low cost addition of petalite and tant) then simply a move from $32k/t to $42k/t doubles margins. We know it could go spike higher than that too.

We hear of copper potentially going from $10000/t to $20000/t, or lithium doubling etc without stopping to question the problems that would cause, the almost certain stalling in the energy transition so it's interesting to hear this point regarding the lack of a difference a doubling in the tin price would make to users of the metal and hence the sustainability of a $60k/t tin price.

I emailed Sakhile in investor relations many weeks ago, asking some basic questions around the lithium ceramics offtake agreement (that was progressing well about 6 months ago), ongoing tantalum volumes, lithium volumes, drill results - and I got no answer. I left it a couple of weeks and sent a chaser asking if she could at least acknowledge the email - she’s replied to me several times previously. No answer

It’s absolutely amazing how far the company has come in the last 4 years and equally amazing that the share price hasn’t kept pace with the progress. Fortunately I’m patient and willing to hold for the value to come through.
