🔺 ZachXBT investigated the theft of $243M in $BTC
Onchain analyst ZachXBT conducted “one of his best investigations” - the specialist uncovered a $243M incident where three attackers stole 4,064 $BTC from lender Genesis using social engineering.
The hackers subsequently distributed these funds across 15 platforms.
The organizers of the scheme posed as Google support staff to gain access to the victim's personal account by resetting two-factor authentication. The victim also leaked his private keys from Bitcoin Core via a screen broadcast.
ZachXBT provides video on behalf of the scammers immediately after the “operation”. With the help of OSINT, he was able to identify them. Soon some of the funds were blocked and the attackers were arrested.
