I did not submit ds-160 when I booked my appointment a year ago. Now the appointment is nearing and folks are asking me to cancel the appointment and book a new one with ds-160 that I have confirmation page for.

If I cancel, will lose money?

You'll have to book ofc+consular...then you can reschedule again...if you book ofc only and don't get consular...then ofc gets auto cancelled in half hour..

Based on my experience, when you were booking and the appointment date was booked, if you received a confirmation of appointment booking on your registered email ID, then your appointment is booked, so rest assured because the site is literally crap
