Cutting Wood Series: the Log Ox

Saves your back?
Don't know.

Saves your chainsaw blades and time? Definitely.

Log Ox claims to be a Made In America tool that uses physics to save your back and increase your ability to move logs when cutting wood. You can also set it up to function as a jack to hold up logs so you can cut them. The latter is how my husband uses the Log Ox and why he recommends it as a top tier wood cutting accessory.

Every time you hit dirt with your chainsaw blade, it seriously dulls it.
Rolling a log to finish cutting it takes time and effort.
Both of these hassles are erased if you use the Log Ox as a jack for your log.

It's easy to set it into a jack formation — but to use it as both a jack and a carrying tool, you'd have to keep switching the configuration of the tools and this would be a big hassle. I asked my husband if he'd like me to buy another log ox so he has one to use as a jack and one to use as a carrier. He said that he has a strong back and cutting wood is a good exercise and doesn't want one to make the carrying of wood easier. However, he does think the Log Ox would make it easier to carry wood.

Purchase options related to this post:
Log Ox Hauler, $159
—this is just the carrying tool and no jack

Forestry, $229
—this package includes the hauler and the jack (plus other stuff) and the one we recommend

Forester Package, $349
—this is the one I bought my husband and we do not recommend this. He doesn't need the holster because he's not using it as a carrying tool. Likewise to pickaroon attachment. And the bag is poor quality.

Ordering off the website is same price as Amazon

Blessed Sunday to you ❤️

This is a beautiful rendition of a powerful Irish hymn, written in the 6th century.

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Be all else but naught to me, save that Thou art;
Be Thou my best thought in the day and the night,
Both waking and sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
Be Thou ever with me, and I with Thee, Lord;
Be Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son;
Be Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my Breastplate, my Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my whole Armor, be Thou my true Might;
Be Thou my soul's Shelter, be Thou my strong Tow’r,
O raise Thou me heav’nward, great Pow’r of my pow’r.

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise;
Be Thou mine inheritance, now and always;
Be Thou and Thou only the first in my heart,
O high King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of heaven, Thou heaven's bright Sun,
O grant me its joys, after vict'ry is won;
Great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be Thou my vision, O Ruler of all.

Song for Autumn
by Mary Oliver

Don’t you imagine the leaves dream now
how comfortable it will be to touch
the earth instead of the
nothingness of the air and the endless
freshets of wind?

And don’t you think
the trees, especially those with
mossy hollows, are beginning to look for
the birds that will come—six, a dozen—to sleep inside their bodies?

And don’t you hear the goldenrod whispering goodbye, the everlasting being crowned with the first
tuffets of snow?

The pond stiffens and the white field over which the fox runs so quickly brings out
its long blue shadows.

The wind wags its many tails.

And in the evening the piled firewood shifts a little, longing to be on its way.

Normally , butter is about half price from Thanksgiving through Christmas. I buy a lot every year and freeze it.

Butter freezes really well. But canning it seems simple, frees up freezer space, and gives you shelf stable butter for 5 years.

I have watched a few videos and this (quick read) step by step article confers the same information. I will add two clarifications, however.

1. Pounds of pressure and time in pressure canner varies by place. Use the meat standards in your area.

2.shake cooling jars a few times each about every 10 minutes to make sure your solids get throughly mixed back in.

Do you have any experience canning butter?

"Please pray that our harvest is uneventful this year."

That is a prayer request given to me recently — it makes it clear that farming can be dangerous work. We found that out yesterday ourselves when we had to put out a fire.

I have read many times that heat lamps cause barn fires. Yet, people are fools and I am no exception.

My teenaged daughter was outside yesterday and saw smoke coming from the sheep shed. She ran to the lambs. Let them out. Saw small flames in the straw under the fallen heat lamp. Used the water trough to put it out. Got a shovel and buried it under dirt. And then came to tell me. Homestead kids are High Agency 👊🏻

"A happy man learns from his mistakes. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others."

I am a happy (wo)man today. Grateful that the lesson was a small one without negative consequence. I hope that you'll be the wise man and learn that heat lamps are dangerous and, most often, unnecessary. (Information on lambs and lamps in the comments).

Homesteading is a revolt against a diseased society.

Homesteaders are homeschoolers because schools are our enemy's indoctrination centers.

Homesteaders are learning skills of our ancestors because we are not soulless cogs in our enemy's machine.

Homesteaders are growing food because our enemy will starve us when they're done poisoning us.

I was on vacation and watched mainstream "news" in the hotel lobby. I watched an executive from McDonalds announce the release of an "adult happy meal" that is an answer to "inflation" and the little plastic toy is "an opportunity for Americans to engage with art and culture".

A world where "adults" eat poison from childlike boxes and look forward to a plastic toy made by a Chinese slave as "economic policy" is a world homesteaders refuse. There is a different way.

Wood Heat: This is the cart you need.

Seriously.
This is the one.

The.One.

After working our very low energy, toe in the pool of homesteading, situation before we moved here to jump in-full, I did enough outside work to realize this —

A *push* cart, instead of a *pull* cart, is imperative for anyone with *any* back issues.

I sought out a push cart, read 1 zillion reviews, and this is the one I settled on. It is now my favorite tool on the homestead.

-easy on my back
-the design makes even the heaviest load easy to push
-and the wide handle accommodates 2 people if you're pushing something really heavy and need help
-well balanced (doesn't tip over)
-solid tires! no more flat tires
-rolls really smoothly and over rough terrain
-400 lb capacity
-large tub that takes a beating (think throwing firewood into it)
-a full bale of hay fits nicely

(at the time we bought ours, this was the best deal. Look around, it could have changed)

Blessed Sunday to you ❤️

A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper He amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the Right Man on our side,
the Man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who That may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His name,
from age to age the same,
and He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us.
The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

That Word above all earthly powers,
no thanks to them, abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours,
thru Him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill;
God's truth abideth still;
His kingdom is forever.

Here's a post from The Woodlander that hits some points of my own thinking on the nature of Nationalist Homesteading.

How is remaining dependent for your most basic survival needs of food, water, and shelter on our people's enemy a good plan of action?

Make yourself as antifragile as possible so that you're in the strongest position to help yourself and our people when we finally say "enough".
