I'm from Canada, we have absolutely flooded the market with software developers. We take in the same amount of international students as the USA every year, yet our population is 1/10th the size. We also allowed 10,000 h1b holders to come to Canada last year, to make us "competitive in tech". Software development was already underpaid, oversaturated and with huge amounts of layoffs.
Housing prices are insane, cost of living is through the roof, much worse than the U.S. We don't build houses fast enough, its been getting progressively worse for 20 years. What does the government do?? Bring in record levels of immigrants year after year! Heck even if you have money, you can't buy what you want because there are shortages in parts/materials all over the place.
Now no one is hiring and companies are treating developers like unskilled laborers.
I'm watching my country turn into the 3rd world in real time.

Just fired from Microsoft

This morning I had an 1:1 with my manager. Normally we meet on Mondays. However, last Monday he rescheduled it. Today at the beginning he asked me how am I. I also asked him how he is. He thanked me and then invited a lady from HR. I immediately understood what is going to happen. The next 10 minutes they explained all termination process and I am now jobless.
It was due to my poor performance. I had two consecutive LITE. That's why it's not a sudden surprise. Unfortunately, I was not able to manage a backup.
I tried heart and soul to get a new job. But I failed. Last February I failed Meta's phone screen and they set the cool down period of one year for me. In addition, last week I failed Amazon's from final virtual onsite. Although I had a great interview they still set one year cool down period for me.
The situation becomes worse due to my OPT. My 60 days timer is now on.
I would appreciate suggestions and action items from the folks who were able to overcome similar tough situations. I'm not confident to get another job within the next 60 days. I'm trying for the last 18-19 months and no luck. That's why I don't see any chance to secure something in the next 60 days. Therefore mostly interested to know the alternative options in these cases.

Every indication we are getting from the Whitehouse and the campaign is that he is very, very, very seriously contemplating dropping out and likely to do so. Except for yesterday's speech about the Supreme Court and on Friday, Biden hasn't done any press appearances, nor is the campaign strategizing to allay the concerns of democrats. I have access to some private polling data (apart from public polls) that are not looking good for Biden at this point. The good news is that alternates are doing better.
We are very likely to see Biden dropping out in the next few weeks once the campaign and Biden team dot the Is and cross the Ts about ballot access dates and succession plan.

My job is extremely male dominated and while I enjoy it and my team is great, I’ve had a lot of situations lately where some guy I don’t really know approaches me and asks me to get lunch/coffee/hang out outside of work etc. I’d like to believe it’s just friendly except it doesn’t happen to any of the men I work with and these aren’t people I work with in my job that I have any reason to interact with. This might sound like a silly problem to have but it’s been happening more and more and making me feel pretty uncomfortable at work, especially since I’m already self conscious about being one of the few women in my job. How the hell do I handle this? Even if I make an excuse not to, some of them are persistent. Everyone I work with is male so I don’t really have anyone to go to.
To the people commenting about what I wear (which is usually jeans, sneakers and a tshirt or sweatshirt, not trying to avoid this topic) you’re probably part of the problem

If you have a job, count your blessings. If you got laid off right now, you would not be able to repeat your luck up till now. If you just graduated and looking for work, and not on F1 visa, I'm sorry, you are screwed for the next few years. Look to wash dishes as a stop gap for a while.
It's going to be a rough ride. The Visa market is wide open again after suffering in 2018-2020. The dent that was put in the H1B/H4 visas back then, led to a surge in US hiring which peaked in 2021. Your multiple job offers were due to this. Your high TC was thanks to this time. You can kiss that time, and any future prospects, goodbye. We are back to 2008 job market where companies only want H1B. The tech job market demands for US talent is gone, again. Hoping the next administration will bring the axe down on these programs that flood our tech markets with warm bodies.

I was swiping on bumble in the evening and saw a profile which was extremely detailed, listed out interests, likes, goals, all of that. And the girl was freaking gorgeous.
I super swiped her.
That night I matched with her!
We got to chatting. I got to learn a lot about her, she was really my ideal girl. Smart, gorgeous, funny, relatable. After a week of chatting I asked her out. Scheduling was a smooth process.
I have not been in a date in like 9 months.
Things going so well, I thought she was a catfish, I was prepared to be disappointed.
On the day of the date, I got to the spot, as I was walking, I saw a girl walking from a perpendicular direction, I didn't even see her face, but I was sure it is her. She just stood out from the crowd.
I was thrilled, this is not a catfish. She was so lovely.
We talked for around 1.5 hrs, walked around the date spot, checked out book stores, talked about her life, I shared about myself. We had lots of things in common.
I walked her till a particular part, then waved bye, saying see you again. She responded with just a bye, I noticed this my immediate thought was she is going to say no to a second date.
I got home, thought about the entire date, and thought overall it was a very enjoyable experience. I messaged her saying so and that we had lots of things in common, so I would love to do this again.
She responded around 2-3 hrs later saying she didn't feel chemistry between us, so she is going to say no to a second date.
I felt so down, and depressed. I started having a bit difficulty breathing, but I got over this in an hour.
I spent the evening of the day of the date and the next day feeling down.
I understand I just went on 1 date with her, but I think she was perfect. Can't find a single flaw in her.
I don't even know what I am expecting from this post, help a homie out, words of encouragement or share your stories, does this feeling go away?

I completely changed my diet and have been going to the gym regularly 2 years now. Used to be almost obese and hated my body. Now i am super lean and ripped. I love looking at my body in the mirror. But then i look upwards and see my face.
Gym (and diet) may have made my body incredible, but it didn't completely remold my facial features enough. I am thinking of undergoing small cosmetic surgery. Wonder if there are good suggestions. Maybe a jawline surgery could be good or a face lift? I am 25

I'm burnt out and debating if I should quit in this bad job market without anything lined up??
Spouse makes 350K, which can cover our VHCOL life. Also, 3.5M invested might grow 8-10% / yr and might give additional safety net if needed.
I grew up with money insecurity (like many here), lived in a scarcity mindset all my life, so I can not get myself to quit. Also scared that future managers will take the employment gap negatively.
I should be celebrating my disciplined NW growth, but I'm depressed and miserable. Need advice or alternate evaluation of my situation.

Edit: I consolidated my positions from couple of other trading platforms to fidelity in last few weeks.

I came to this country with a few hundred dollars over a decade ago. Worked hard over the years, and now feel a sense of achievement ( though money is not everything, it gives a feeling of security)

60% brokerage
20% home equity
20% retirement fund
Currently in my late thirties. I want to work hard for the next 8-10 year and retire in my mid forties.

Spouse misunderstandings from day 1. Blew up over some things. 20 years gone by, but lots of resentment from the other side, though I am equally hurt. Every fight brings up the one old fight and divorce. Though the fights aren’t frequent (once a year or two ). Kids little. In-laws - typical, political. Stay with us. Parents - only verbal support, not strong kind or supportive kind. Difficult dad too. Both husband and dad meddle into my decisions a lot. May be, I am the kind that people feel free to meddle with and interfere. By now, I feel resentful too towards all adults and it’s spilling as anger on my children.
