The point is, the 'excuse' of afterlife doesn't stop the question: what prevents another human being of being good even in this life.

I most honestly believe, that a good man will be more greatly appreciated in the eyes of ANY god and any religion more than most religious bad man.

So that solves the religion question.

If God wanted a worshipper, he would not give you interactions with other humans etc.

You should do good not out of fear of Him or anything else, but because you want to do it.

Respect, appreciation, okay, but if you don't do it because it's truly you... why would I appreciate my dog for giving me his paw, when he doesn't know the meaning.

Religion is useless if you don't live the things. If if it helps you become a better man, then it's good. So again, comes to the same essence, it's individual, good and bad.

If you think in your religious community, out of 'strongest' believers there are no bad people... and out of those who have never set foot at praying ground there are no good people, then I think you're mistaken my friend.

In short, I don't want to do good because someone will 'judge' me at the end, but because I truly would enjoy living in a loving good-people-around world. This is big discinctive difference. Doing it out of fear, even God fearing is wrong. And even the God knows it.
