El Nino during the winter causes warm conditions over the Indian subcontinent and dry and deficient monsoons during summer. Hence, it creates a draught-like situation and affects agriculture. The crops like Paddy, Groundnut, Maize, Guar, Castor, Moong, Tur, and Bajra suffer greatly from El Nino conditions.

Nino is the name given to the occasional development of warm ocean surface waters along the coast of Ecuador and Peru. El Niño events occur irregularly at intervals of 2–7 years, although the average is about once every 3-4 years.

The most prominent droughts in India – six of them – since 1871 have been El Nino droughts, including the recent ones in 2002 and 2009. However, not all El Nino years led to a drought in India. For instance, 1997/98 was a strong El Nino year but there was no drought (Because of Indian Ocean Dipole).

Direct Benefit Transfer under various Central welfare schemes has led to savings of more than ₹50,000 crore in FY2122, according to the latest update on the government portal.

As on date, DBT is used in 312 schemes, being implemented by 53 Central Ministries and Departments.

Maximum gain was seen in the Public Distribution system (PDS) where the government managed to save ₹33,600 crore. This is mainly due to deletion of 4.2 crore duplicate and fake ration cards (from 2013 to 2021).

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the medical devices policy to promote industry in a “holistic manner” from the current size of $11 billion to $50 billion over the next five years.

With the policy set to facilitate an enabling ecosystem for manufacturing and innovation, a streamlined regulatory framework and skill building in line with industry requirements, it aims to increase India’s share in the global market from the current 1.5% to 12% over the next 25 years.

What is Bouruvita Controversy and How a Social Media Influncer caused Loss of Millions of Dollar in Brand Value.

A social media influencer's video claiming that Cadbury's Bournvita misrepresented its nutritional value by having high sugar content has gone viral on 15th April 2023.

After a video of influencer Revant Himatsingka criticising the endorsement of Bournvita, a product of Cadbury, as a ‘health drink’ went viral, the influencer reportedly received a legal warning from Cadbury. Soon after, the influencer removed the post from all of his social media accounts. Himatsingka criticised the company for "miscommunicating" the product's "nutritional value" in the video. He also made fun of the assertions made by the company on its packaging.

How did things come to such a pass?

– Reliance Capital (RCAP) was the third major non-banking financial firm to be cherrypicked by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in November 2021 under IBC after Srei Group and Dewan Housing Finance Corp. Ltd (DHFL).

– On December 21, 2022, Torrent Investments made the winning bid of Rs 8640 crore in the first round of auctions for RCAP’s assets. However, a day after the auction ended, the Hinduja Group made an improved offer of Rs 8,950 crore.

– Following an appeal by Torrent, the NCLY restrained the administrator of RCAP Nageswara Rao Y from presenting the non-compliant bid to the committee of lenders.

– Three days later, however, the lenders in a meeting decided that the winning bid in the first round of auctions was sub-optimal and decided to hold another round of auctions.

What's Case? The Supreme Court had issued notice to the Centre Govt on a plea by two gay couples seeking recognition of same-sex marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 in November 2022, asking for its stand on same-sex marriage.

Same-sex marriage: It grants same-sex couples the same legal and social recognition, rights, and privileges that are traditionally associated with marriage, including property rights, inheritance rights, and the ability to make decisions for each other in medical emergencies. The recognition of same-sex marriage varies around the world, with some countries legalizing it while others do not.

Same-sex marriage is currently not legally recognized in India. Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalized homosexuality, was struck down by the Supreme Court of India in 2018, which was a landmark decision for LGBTQ+ rights in the country. However, there is still no law that allows same-sex couples to legally marry or have any legal recognition of their relationships.

A new RBI circular has now allowed unutilised funds to be repatriated and surrendered to an authorised dealer bank within 180 days.

Banks can now offer interest-bearing accounts to resident individuals, which was not allowed under the earlier regime. This will help banks raise low-cost funds and garner deposits which are more sticky in nature. Investors stand to benefit by earning interest on the funds parked with the banks.

The combined limit for investment under the LRS route to IFSC and to other countries still stands at $250,000.

In another news, The 2023 Budget had increased the TCS on foreign remittances under LRS from 5% to 20%, discouraging investment through LRS.

The review stated that India’s banking system was less prone to the kind of failures seen with Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. It said banking supervision was robust with the RBI’s overarching coverage of institutions, regardless of asset size, in its bi-annual assessment of financial stability.

Macro stress tests are also performed from time to time on individual banks. Investment in held-to-maturity (HTM) securities is limited to 23 per cent of deposits, reflecting an effective insulation of asset value from adverse market developments.

Centre sticking to target of 5,000 compressed biogas plants by FY25

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) recently told industry stakeholders at a meeting in Delhi that it will not scale back the target of setting up 5,000 commercial CBG plants by 2024-25 under the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transport (SATAT) scheme.

Launched in 2018, SATAT aims at incentivizing the production of CBG from various biomass sources. But the scheme has lagged behind targets, with the country only being able to establish 46 CBG plants so far.

In 2020, the central government introduced Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for 14 sectors with a total incentive outlay of Rs 1.97 lakh crore (or about USD 26 billion). The first PLI scheme was announced in two tranches — in March 2020 in three sectors, followed by the addition of another ten sectors in November 2020. In September 2021, the PLI scheme was extended to the drone and drone components sector.

Many people may think that I'm only running Paid Descriptive Mock Test but that's not true from Feb onwards simultaneously Questions are being shared on daily basis.

I receive 20-30 copies on daily basis for evaluation on telegram through DM, recently I fixed 8:00 - 9:00 AM for evaluation of these copies so those who send me the copies and remind me morning, i share suggestive feedbacks to all of them.

Whats the Difference?
Ans: Mock Test will give you different experience than practicing 1-2 questions on daily basis such as: what are the physical and mental issues, content and typing related issues that may come in actual exams as the whole PHASE II Exam in RBI is of 5.5 hours, with 4.5 hours of typing on screen, so accordingly you will be ready to address those but before attempting mocks, I always suggest everyone to practice 1-2 questions on daily basis for 10-12 days by setting timer (25 min for 15 Marker and 20 min for 10 marker) and first get used of how to write and what to wirte and then attempt tests.

So both the things have it's own benefits.
