The Union Finance Ministry has notified changes to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The Finance Ministry has brought in practising chartered accountants, company secretaries and cost and work accountants carrying out financial transactions on behalf of their clients into the ambit of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The move aims at curbing fraudulent practices by which accountants allegedly help their clients to launder money. These changes are also expected to aid investigative agencies further in their probe against dubious transactions involving shell companies and money laundering.

❇️ What is Checklist and why you should make one daily for Yourself?

Hey guys, I don't know how many of you are already following this or will be following after reading this, but since I started preparing for regulatory exams for the second time (here I mean, I had prepared for RBI Grade B initially after graduation but then started teaching and later again left everything in October 2020 to prepare again till last year, not eligible from this year onwards), I have been preparing a check list for daily activities and maintaining records of all major activities.

Even today, when I'm devoting most of my time to start teaching again along with my next dream of cracking the PCS exam, I try to plan everything a day before so that I can devote at least 4-5 hours regularly to studying.

So what is a checklist?

It's basically a form of study plan, but here you don't make a plan for 90 days or 180 days but rather for the next day. We all know our main target, and keeping that in mind, we need to create a roadmap of daily activities.

👉 How do I do this?

You first need to fix the time, which means at what time you are planning to study. After reading consistently for 15 days at the same time, your mind will be ready to accept this as study time.
Now the second task is to decide what to do (the syllabus) and what the sources are. Once you choose sources, stick to them. Don't dive into an ocean of study material; you will never come out of it because there is no end to study materials.

After these two things, you are all set; you just need to have faith in yourself that you can and you will do it if you give your best.

Now, before getting to bed every night, decide what you are going to do in your study time next day. Try to give more time to weaker and incomplete sections, and also make time to practise things in which you are already good.

👉Why is a checklist needed, and how does it help?

As we all know, the syllabus for these exams is huge, and seeing it leaves most people overwhelmed and confused.

They keep searching for tips and tricks on how to prepare this and that, but in actuality, they never prepare anything seriously until the exam comes. Initially, I used to do the same, so if you are also doing the same thing, let me tell you, this time will never come back, and you are also growing older day by day, so if you seriously want to clear it, then start doing something that may help you get the final selection.
 
These 75 days will pass like a fly and you won't even know so act now or regret later. This was a more 500 Words lengthy post, hope it doesn't bored you.

India's additional green financing need at 2.5% of GDP: RBI Report on Currency and Finance

The report on currency and finance (RCF) for 2022-23 titled "Towards a Greener Cleaner India" contains a series of articles by various experts. India will need additional annual investment of 2.5 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) at least for green financing till 2030.

The RBI, in its report on Currency and Finance (RCF) FY23, said apart from the requirements of higher banking capital, a successful green transition plan would also entail a large investment in socio-economic infrastructure.

Another Most Pressing Issue - Climate change and its Potential impact on Financial Sector, RBI had launched a paper on it last year and I feel this could be asked in Finance Descriptive.

World Development Report 2023: Migrants, Refugees & Societies.

It is an annual report published since 1978 by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) or World Bank. It provides an in-depth analysis of a specific aspect of economic development.

An Increase in Income: Under-skilled Indian citizens migrating to the US noticed a hike in their income of nearly 500%, followed by the UAE by almost 300%. Those migrating to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations other than UAE stand to gain less. The report estimated a 120% income gain for Indians who migrate to another country for work, compared to a 40% rise in the case of internal migration.

Overview of Global Migration and Refugees: There are currently 184 million migrants globally, which is 2.3% of the population, including 37 million refugees.

I hope you are utilising these holidays to cover major topics rather than wasting them on some unnecessary stuffs. There are topics that are lengthy and you may not have covered yet, but based on the current context, these are very important, such as corporate governance, fintech, the WTO, etc.

Also, attempt a mock test for Phase I and analyse it to understand your current level of preparation as well as areas for improvement.

There are not many long weekends like this before exams, so you should try to utilise whatever you get. I would also suggest making a plan in advance, as if you start your day thinking, "What do I have to read today?" then the first half of the day will automatically pass by just thinking about this thing.

Just remember, no one has achieved anything from their comfort zone. You will have to push yourself; no one else is going to do it for you.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday launched G20 TechSprint, a global technology competition for developing innovative solutions to improve cross-border payments.

Under India’s G20 Presidency, the RBI and the BIS Innovation Hub (BISIH) of the Bank for International Settlements have jointly launched the fourth edition of the G20 TechSprint.

The 2023 TechSprint will focus on solutions for three challenges cross-border payments face. The first focus would be Anti Money Laundering and Sanctions technology solutions to reduce illicit finance risk.

Second aspect would cover Foreign exchange and liquidity technology solutions to enable settlement in emerging market and developing economy (EMDE) currencies. Finally, come up with technology solutions for multilateral cross-border Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) platforms.

The agreement on agriculture, crucial aspect of Doha dialogue under WTO, aims to arrive at consensus on extent of domestic support countries can extend to their agriculture sector.

Peace Clause or De minimis level: As an interim measure to tackle the differences between nations on food subsidy, WTO members at the Bali ministerial meeting in 2013 put in place a mechanism called the Peace Clause.

Under this clause, developing nations could not be dragged to arbitration if they did breach the prescribed limit of 10 per cent on support to farmers.

The Peace Clause rules such disputes until a permanent solution is reached.

The WTO's Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) sets out rules for agricultural trade and subsidies. It requires WTO members to reduce their agricultural subsidies and sets limits on the amount of subsidies that can be provided. However, developed countries have been criticized for not complying with these rules and providing excessive subsidies to their farmers.

Developing countries argue that developed countries' subsidies make their agricultural products less competitive and harm their farmers' livelihoods. They also point out that developed countries' subsidies lead to overproduction and lower prices in the global market, which further harms developing countries' farmers.

WTO has been so much in News lately due various Issue involving India and Other Nations, I expect there could be some 10/15 Marks Questions on it.

A draft under the ‘Sagarmala innovation and start-up policy’ was recently put up for discussion

The draft proposes 12 broad areas that could be considered in the first three years. These include decarbonization of the maritime industry and adopting green-tech in the port sector — something that the Ministry itself has been pushing over the last few weeks.

A three-layered monitoring structure has been proposed — an apex committee, that will be monitored by the maritime innovation hub, which in turn will be monitored by the start-up monitoring and evaluation group.

Implementation is to be through the maritime innovation hub with the NTCPWC-IIT Madras acting as the “nominated agency” for the time being.

Unsecured loans – mostly personal loans and credit cards – do not carry any collateral and therefore pose higher risk. Indian banks have been growing their unsecured lending portfolio as the pandemic-induced stress began to ease.

As per the latest credit deployment data published by the RBI, unsecured loans lent between February 2022 to February 2023 stood at ₹2.2-lakh crore, higher than the deployment towards large corporates at ₹1.18-lakh crore.

The size of the home loan market during this period was ₹2.49-lakh crore just marginally larger than the unsecured loans market. A report by CARE Ratings pegs the unsecured loans market at ₹13.2-lakh crore, almost equal to the total exposure of the banking sector towards NBFCs (at ₹13.1-lakh crore).

What Is FAME-II Controversy?

They Manufacturers are eligible for subsidy if they cap the ex-factory price of the vehicle at Rs. 1.50 lakh (40 per cent of this is given as subsidy).

But the companies have been staying within the cap only by billing for the chargers (and the software) separately as an accessory, even though it is an integral part of the scooter which won’t even start without it.

A whistle blower had complained that if they included the charger in the ex-factory price, the total price would have shot up to ~1.53 lakh to ~1.90 lakh, disqualifying them from the subsidy.

Consequently, the Department of Heavy Industries, started an investigation and also started withholding the subsidy disbursement for the scooters sold from January onwards.

The Department of Heavy Industries asked the companies to pay back the customers, after which the pending subsidies would be released. Ola seems to be the first to comply with the order.
