Regele Eduard Martirul sau Eadweard al II-lea (c. 962 - 18 martie 978/979) i-a urmat tatălui său, Edgar, ca rege al Angliei în 975, dar a fost asasinat după o domnie de numai trei ani.

A fost declarat sfânt martir, adică canonizat ca Sfântul Edward Martirul în 1001. Acest lucru părea corect, deoarece Edward era considerat un creștin foarte bun care a murit pentru credința sa și se credea că ucigașii erau oameni "ireligioși".

Despre regele Edward se spunea că era "un tânăr cu un mare devotament și o conduită excelentă. Era complet ortodox, bun și de viață sfântă. Mai mult, el îl iubea mai presus de toate pe Dumnezeu și Biserica. Era generos cu cei săraci, un refugiu pentru cei buni, un campion al Credinței lui Hristos, un vas plin de orice har virtuos".

Yesterday on the way back to England I randomly bumped into Sister Helen from the Saint Elisabeths convent in Galway.

A very good friend of our Saint Elisabeths parish in Liverpool!
