Money might actually be able to buy happiness — and each generation has a different idea of what that price tag would be.
On Monday, Empower — a financial services company — released the results of a survey conducted by The Harris Poll in August that asked 2,034 Americans aged 18 and over what they think the key to financial happiness really is.
Turns out, 59% of respondents think happiness can be bought, and the average person believes it would take having $1.2 million in the bank to be truly happy financially. Read more

China's economy may be spluttering, with growth faltering and big property developers collapsing, but one industry has continued to rev harder.
China is the world's electric vehicle leader, with 64% of total production and 59% of global EV sales in 2022, according to the World Economic Forum. One of its biggest EV producers, BYD, looks set to topple Tesla's position as the world's top seller of electric cars.
BYD sold just 3,000 fewer EVs than Elon Musk's company in the three months to September 30. Analysts say it's highly likely to overtake Tesla by the end of the year, in what will be a milestone moment for EVs.

There are exactly 2,640 billionaires in the world, according to Forbes. That's about 0.00003% of the global population.
Despite their scarcity, these billionaires are surprisingly easy to find. After all, birds of a feather — especially those of a small brood — flock their private jets together. At the start of the year, they descend en masse on Davos. In July, they fly to Sun Valley. In December, their yachts stop by St. Barts.
Here's where billionaires mingle, wheel and deal, and relax, and how you can join them — for a small price, of course. Read more

The Israeli military raided Gaza's largest hospital early Wednesday, conducting what it called a "precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area" of the facility, which has been the site of a standoff with the ruling militant group.
Israeli authorities claim the militants conceal military operations in the Al Shifa Hospital. But with hundreds of patients and medical personnel inside, the military has refrained from entering.
In recent weeks, Israeli defense forces have publicly warned that such use of the hospital "jeopardizes its protected status under international law," the military said. On Tuesday, military officials conveyed again to Gaza authorities that all military activity in the hospital must cease within 12 hours.
"Unfortunately, it did not," the military said. Read more

With the October 7 attack, Hamas revealed that it was less interested in merely governing the Gaza Strip and its more than 2 million inhabitants than it was in fighting a war in the name of Palestinians everywhere.
"Hamas's goal is not to run Gaza and to bring it water and electricity and such," Khailil al-Hayya, a member of the group's governing politburo, told The New York Times in an interview.
He credited the October 7 attack with having "woke the world up from its deep sleep" and forcing it to confront the plight of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, where — in recent weeks — Israelis in illegal settlements have stepped up deadly attacks on their Palestinian neighbors.
"This battle was not because we wanted fuel or laborers," al-Hayya said. "It did not seek to improve the situation in Gaza. This battle is to completely overthrow the situation." Read more
