First Photograph of a Cat

The image presented is considered the first photograph of a cat in the world (1880–1890), and its author, Harry Pointter, was an animal lover and, at the same time, a pioneer of a new art form—the technique of painting with light, or simply photography. It is also known that in 1872 he took hundreds of photographs of his cats and only in 1884 published a separate photo album. It can be assumed that this particular shot was the most popular among the others and rightfully earned its preeminence over the rest.

Marlboro was the first company to introduce the so-called "flip-tops"—cigarette packs with a flip-top lid. The issue was that many buyers had gotten clever enough to remove cigarettes from the pack without taking it out of their pocket, which meant that the brand name wasn’t visible. They decided to remedy this unprecedented trick by introducing such a pack: now, without a certain dexterity, you couldn’t get a cigarette out of it. In this way, Marlboro forced its consumers to remove the pack, displaying the brand name and packaging—a move that positively impacted sales.

Between them, only a drawn line. Later, this line would be replaced by the Berlin Wall, followed by barbed wire and finally a four-meter brick wall.

In the Mardin province of southeastern Turkey, a Roman villa with remnants of a once-luxurious mosaic has been discovered.

A fairly large fragment has been well preserved: it depicts two large fish (one of which only the head remains), an octopus, mussels, eels, and a heron that seemingly came to feast on the sea delicacies.

The total area of the mosaic is about 100 square meters. It was likely created between the 5th and 7th centuries.

Everyone in the prison loved him—from hardened criminals to the warden, who gave him a toy train and treated him to ice cream. He smiled on his way to the gas chamber, unaware of what death truly meant.
