TWRP still works good, it flips all custom ROMs just fine for me i never install a rom with ADB sideload, always TWRP direct install

Okay it worked 100% this time, not sure how, but seems like it has to do with Magisk missing, if reinstall magisk then recovered backup works good!

so basically if i format with typing "yes" then need to boot up the ROM and let it create necessary folders then reboot back in recovery and flash restore this works like charm

I think a key reason why a lot of ROMs abandoned recommending TWRP any more are all the compatibility issues that crop up esp in regards to encryption and the plethora of partition layout schemes that exist nowadays with android devices.

however i run into yet another problem with TWRP, when i successfully restore "data" backup and start rom, my custom apps are there, but the UI is broken 3 button navigation is missing and drop down menu also, so TWRP backup is indeed broken.

I found the problem was, i was doing format "yes" to format data partition, instead should have used safe format that keeps "media" folder intact

Orangefox is TWRP with a custom theme and usually the same device trees, so the issue could remain common.
