👉🏻RAMSAR CONVENTION ON WETLANDS

👉🏻It is an international treaty for “the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands” ( also known as the Convention on Wetlands). It is named after the city of Ramsar in Iran where it was signed on 2nd of February 1971.

The 2nd of February each year is celebrated as the World Wetlands Day.

The number of parties to the convention (COP) is 171.

👉🏻 At the centre of the Ramsar philosophy is the “wise use” of wetlands. Wise use: maintenance of ecological character within the context of sustainable development.

👉🏻Sundarbans is the largest Ramsar Site in India. Chilika Lake (Orissa) and Keoladeo National Park (Rajasthan) were recognized as the first Ramsar Sites of India.

👉🏻Note: Tamil Nadu has the most number of Ramsar Sites in India.

➖Oldest among all the four Vedas.
➖Rigveda has 1028 hymns.
➖Classified into 10 mandalas.
👉🏻Note: Hotri Priest is associated with Rigveda.

👉🏻Gyatri Mantra: It is a part of 3rd mandala of Rigveda. It was composed by Vishwamitra and is dedicated to God Savitr.

👉🏻9th Mandala: Dedicated to Vedic God SOMA.

👉🏻10th Mandala: It contains the popular ‘Purusha Sukta’ hymn. As per this hymn, various components of the UNIVERSE emerged from different parts of the body of Lord Brahma.

👉🏻Aitareya Brahmana and Kaushitaki Brahmana are part of Rigveda.
