Well, mutual physical presence is necessary for ascension, so that we do not promote bots to citizenship. I suppose you could use this for DND or other clubs. In my case, it is for the governance layer of a standards body (Sovereign IT Solutions), that maintains a set of technical standards for energy, compute, and communications devices and configurations. It is not a secret society, it is a way of keeping your secrets in this era of cloud-based identity systems,

So in that light perhaps you can see how I discovered Holochain, and why I find it so fascinating.

Identity expands through ascension ceremonies, to make consociations and also to allow for recovery via attestation.

At the coordination level of the SCA, there is an identity server (Authentik). The paper won't specify this level of detail, but I've gone into great detail in the sca about the constraints on mechanisms for sharing information about what happens within a cell or consociation. A primary duty is to publish a chain head, which can be used to verify that any information that you do provide is accurate and well maintained. You share only what you need to share, so for example I voted, and you can confirm it, but you can't know how I voted.

We always try to steer people towards logical or causal time (that is, X preceded Y because Y is dependent on X), if their use case is compatible with it. Might be more demanding to reason about, but it matches the relativistic, multi-viewpoint nature of reality more closely and hence is more compatible with distributed systems.

I like to talk about local-first + sync servers (e.g., Holochain Edge Nodes, Signal, Bluesky, Matrix) as "the server is there but it doesn't matter". Holochain takes it one step further in that, if you don't like the way the sync server is doing things, it takes a spare computer + minutes-to-hours to spin up one of your own and connect it to the network
