The cabinet led by Prime Minister @narendramodi has approved equity investment by CIL. This move allows CIL and GAIL to set up Coal-SNG project at ECL Command through joint venture and CIL and BHEL to form a joint venture to set up Coal-Ammonium Nitrate project at MCL command. This remarkable decision would lessen our dependency on imports of crude and natural gas based products.

Cabinet of the Millenium: Thanks to the #UnionCabinet led by PM Shri @narendramodi ji for approving the viability gap funding worth ₹8,500 crore in coal gasification projects. Moreover, 2 Coal-to-Chemical products have also been approved, which will proceed through JVs between CIL, GAIL and BHEL. These projects will be completed by 2028-29, and will pave the way towards import substitution.
With augmentation of domestic coal gasification, dependency on imports of crude and natural gas-based products mainly methanol, ammonia, ammonium nitrate, olefins etc. can be substituted by products derived from syngas.
