Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to the seat of the European Union this month underscored the country’s delicate balancing act as it branches outside Russia’s sphere of influence.
Brussels and Washington promised to provide Armenia with 270 million euros and $65 million respectively.
"The U.S. and the EU are trying to drag the South Caucasus into geopolitical confrontation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement after Pashinyan’s meeting in Brussels.
Yerevan fundamentally disagrees with this view.
"We are grateful to our partners in Brussels and Washington for this unwavering support for Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and development. In building an Armenia that will be economically strong, that will be friends with all countries," Tigran Balayan, Armenia’s Ambassador to the EU, told The Moscow Times.
"Among these countries, of course, Russia is at the top of the list.”

The situation is desperate for the exhausted Ukrainian brigades in the Ocheretyne area. It’s a foregone conclusion that the Ukrainians will lose a few villages around this axis.
The real risk, however, is that the Ukrainian Tavriya Operational-Strategic Group—the command responsible for forces west of Adviivka—will have no choice but to cut its losses, retreat a few miles to the west and reconsolidate along a new defensive line threading north to south west of Ocheretyne.
How the Russians broke the Ukrainian line west of Avdiivka last weekend is the subject of heated debate in Kyiv and across the front line.
Some observers have blamed the Ukrainian army’s 115th Mechanized Brigade, which recently rotated into positions in Ocheretyne—and was immediately overwhelmed by the Russian army’s 30th Motor Rifle Brigade.
Others have pointed out that the 115th Mechanized Brigade is under-equipped and, like all Ukrainian units, starving for ammunition.
The firepower imbalance might prove decisive as the battle rages on. Sensing an opportunity and apparently feeling confident in their chances, Russian commanders have shoved the 15th and 74th Motor Rifle Brigades into the salient along with elements of the 90th Tank Division and some special forces.
At least seven Ukrainian brigades and a separate battalion are fighting back: the 23rd, 25th, 47th, 100th and 115th Mechanized Brigades, the 25th Air Assault Brigade, the 3rd Assault Brigade and the 425th Assault Battalion. The brigades typically deploy just one battalion at a time.
In all, it’s apparent the Russians have more than 10,000 troops in or near the salient. Just 3,000 or so Ukrainians oppose them.

France and Germany on Friday, April 26, firmed up plans to jointly develop a next-generation battle tank equipped with artificial intelligence and laser technology, billed as a game changer in modern warfare.
During a ceremony in Paris, the defence ministers of France and Germany, Sebastien Lecornu and Boris Pistorius, signed a memorandum of understanding that seals a 50-50 split in the industrial production of an advanced battle tank dubbed the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS).
"Today's signing is a real milestone," Pistorius told reporters. "This is not the tank of the future but the future of the tank," Lecornu added.

Hezbollah stated in a press release that an Israeli army convoy was ambushed near the Ruwaysat al-Alam base, utilizing anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), artillery, and rockets.
As a result of the attack, two vehicles were destroyed, and injuries are likely.
In addition to the minister, the minister's daughter, the minister's driver, one of his security guards and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident were evacuated from the scene. All are in a light condition and fully conscious.

The design of these tanks was influenced by the experiences made during the battle of Stalingrad. Urban combat was not only costly but also heavily slowed down any advance. It was concluded that the heer needed a vehicle that could directly engage in that situation. For this, it needed heavy armor and a powerful gun. The 15cm gun of a Brummbär could level buildings from a close distance.
During the battle of Berlin, the Soviets made use of a similar tactic. Isu-152 guns and Is-2 tanks were used in that case.
