In Twin Peaks, businessman Ben Horne suffers a mental breakdown and thinks he's Robert E. Lee. The psychiatrist, Dr. Jacoby, suggests that Horne's family play along with his delusions to not make matters worse. So the others humor "Lee" as he draws up battle plans with plastic figures.
We have the same story playing out in the White House right now. An obviously deranged President writing bizarre letters saying he can no longer worry about peace because he didn't get a shiny prize from Norway. And the cabinet members play along with him, pretending he's sane as he threatens war against his own allies because they won't give him an island that he wants because it looks nice and big on the map.
The difference is that Ben Horne was playing with toy figures on his living room floor while Trump commands the US Army and nuclear weapons.

I have usually assumed Trump is playing the madman for effect. Mostly because it's difficult to relate to the idea that someone is nuts and not pretending. We think there MUST be some "4D chess" behind the deranged things he's done.
Now I am convinced he's batshit crazy.
This isn't play acting. This isn't a negotiation tactic. This is so infantile and detached from reality that I think Trump has lost his mind.
He needs to be removed from office.
It needs to happen soon, because the longer Vance goes along with this, the lower his credibility sinks.
The longer this goes on, the harder it will be to repair America's relationships with other white countries.
The longer this goes on, the less seriously the rest of the world will take America.
And when the world ceases to trust and fear the US, there will be a mad scramble to change the status quo all over the planet, which will quickly go violent, draw in more and more countries, and there's very little chance that the world will end up a better place in the end. I am particularly worried that Putin will try to seize control of NATO countries in Eastern Europe.
Biden was America's Pu Yi: a child emperor whose decisions were made by courtiers.
Trump is America's Caligula: a mad emperor who needs to be removed from office.
