It's because the same thing in open source community they're not many dev, mostly highly skinned android comes with ton of bugfixes internally as the time they are lazy, they open their device kernel source codes same thing with other highly skinned brands

eh, i disagree wholeheartedly because a custom rom is essential for me on my main phone for far better privacy and security, more updates (and control over said updates), ability to add features, full control over the device, cool things like Linux on my phone, and as a bonus i get to avoid google :)
those are just a few of the reasons though
