Physical AI isn't coming, it's already on factory floors, in homes
We mapped 29 private startups building the machines: humanoids (Figure, 1X), warehouse & construction robots (Bedrock, ANYbotics), self-driving vehicles (Waymo, Waabi) and autonomous defense systems (Anduril, Shield AI).

Prime Intellect has Introduced Prime Agent
Prime Agent is a fully open-source, self-improving coding and research harness built to handle general, long-horizon autonomous tasks rather than one-off prompts.
It rests on two abstractions. The Recursive Language Model treats context as a variable and sub-agent delegation as function calls inside a live REPL, so the agent can program over its own history and run very long sessions without losing information. The Continual Harness lets it edit its own prompts, skills, memory and sub-agents on the fly, while a '/refine' pipeline reads each run and applies the smallest change that improves future outcomes, making its self-improvement evidence-backed rather than random.
Sapiom Raises $35M Series A Led by Dragonfly
Sapiom, an AI-agent infrastructure startup founded by ex-Shopify engineering director Ilan Zerbib, has closed a $35M Series A led by crypto VC Dragonfly, lifting its total funding past $50M.
The round funds three new products, Router, Agent Studio and Runtime, built to make AI agents reliable, economical and safe enough to run in production. Sapiom builds the payment and infrastructure rails that let AI agents buy software, APIs, data and compute on their own.
EON Raises $10.75M to Move Data via Space Lasers
EON (Endeavor Optical Networks) has raised $10.75M in seed funding co-led by a16z and General Catalyst, with XYZ Venture Capital, Upfront Ventures and Main Object also joining.
Founded by CEO Charlie Horowitz and ex-NASA astronautical engineer Tyler Presser, EON plans a network of laser-equipped spacecraft to route data between data centers from Medium-Earth Orbit. It is pitched as a faster-to-deploy, harder-to-disrupt rival to the undersea cables that carry most intercontinental internet traffic, targeting CDNs, hyperscalers, telecoms and AI labs.
AIVM Launches Brain Beta for Governed Enterprise AI Knowledge
AIVM has launched the beta of Brain, a governed AI knowledge platform that enables companies to unify internal knowledge for both employees and AI agents while preserving existing access permissions.
Brain connects enterprise tools such as Google Drive and Notion, with Slack, Telegram, GitHub, Confluence, Salesforce, and Gmail integrations planned. Rather than copying data, it queries information directly from connected sources, ensuring every response respects user permissions and every access is logged through a tamper-evident audit trail.
Proof of Play Shuts Down, Calls Play-to-Earn 'Broken'
Proof of Play, the a16z-backed studio behind onchain RPG Pirate Nation, is shutting down after failing to build a sustainable business around its Web3 gaming thesis.
CEO Amitt Mahajan says 'Play-to-Earn is fundamentally broken.' At its peak the studio was paying up to $4,000 a day to subsidize players' gas fees on Polygon. Proof of Play raised $33M in 2023 in a round led by a16z, and has now open-sourced the Pirate Nation Unity client under an MIT license as it winds down.
Binance Sues RedotPay for $470M, Alleges User Poaching
Binance has filed a $470M lawsuit accusing crypto payment-card startup RedotPay of poaching its own users.
RedotPay, a Hong Kong card issuer, had integrated Binance Pay as a funding option. Binance's suit says it then improperly diverted those users to itself.
Arc announced mainnet launch on September 16th
Arc is Circle's Layer-1 built for institutional finance, using USDC as its native gas token for sub-second, dollar-priced settlement.
Named backers span BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, Goldman Sachs, Apollo and Coinbase, part of the 100+ firms that joined the Arc testnet. Mainnet goes live September 16.
3AC Liquidators Sue Zhu Su's Wife Over $40M Villa
Liquidators for collapsed hedge fund Three Arrows Capital are suing Evelyn Tao, wife of co-founder Zhu Su, to recover $40M tied to a Dubai villa.
The claim: Zhu bought the villa with a $50M loan from the firm, then transferred it to Tao without payment. The liquidators now want the $40M in sale proceeds returned. It is the latest of many moves to recover assets lost in 3AC's 2022 collapse.
Ethereum Devs Propose Capping Staking at 50%
Ethereum researchers, including the Ethereum Foundation's Justin Drake, have proposed burning validator rewards to keep staking from passing half of all ETH.
The 'Tapered Issuance Burn' would destroy a growing share of each validator reward as the staking ratio climbs, reaching 100% near 60.25M ETH staked, about half the supply. Rewards would taper over roughly 18 months. Backers argue that beyond a point, extra stake concentrates power and makes Ethereum less secure. Aave Labs CEO Stani Kulechov pushed back, calling the proposal hurtful for Ethereum and its DeFi yield strategies.
Wells Fargo Launches Tokenized Deposits for Corporate Clients
Wells Fargo will roll out tokenized deposits for select corporate and commercial clients later this year, beginning with 24/7 U.S. dollar-to-British pound settlements on its proprietary blockchain.
Unlike stablecoins, the tokenized deposits represent traditional bank balances onchain while maintaining the same regulatory protections and deposit insurance eligibility as conventional deposits. The bank plans to introduce programmable payments through smart contracts and expand support to additional clients, countries, and currencies throughout 2027.
Western Union Launches Stablecard for Instant Cross-Border Payments
Western Union has launched Stablecard, enabling customers in 37 markets to receive remittances as USDPT, its dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on Solana, and spend funds instantly through a Visa card powered by Rain.
The new service allows recipients to hold USDPT in the Stablecard app, convert it to local cash at Western Union locations, or make purchases at more than 175 million merchants worldwide via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or the physical card.
Beyond improving the customer experience, Stablecard helps Western Union reduce reliance on prefunded bank accounts by enabling near-instant stablecoin settlement, making cross-border remittances more capital efficient while keeping funds within its digital ecosystem.
Bending Spoons to Acquire Airtable for $1.285B
Bending Spoons, the Italian software firm behind Evernote and WeTransfer, has agreed to acquire no-code database platform Airtable for $1.285B in an all-cash deal.
Airtable blends a spreadsheet with a database so teams can build simple apps without code, and it runs about $480M in annual recurring revenue.
Including Airtable's net cash the implied equity value is around $2.25B, while the headline enterprise price is $1.285B, so do not conflate the two. The deal is expected to close later in 2026. This is a traditional software acquisition, with no crypto or token angle to it.
Boltz, a non-custodial Bitcoin bridge, halted swaps indefinitely
Boltz has disabled its swaps indefinitely after months of automated, AI-assisted attacks outpaced its small team's ability to patch bugs. Boltz is the trustless engine that lets wallets swap between Bitcoin, Lightning and Liquid.
Because it never holds your coins, no user funds were lost or at risk, and Boltz itself absorbed the cost of the exploits. This is a pause until further notice, not a permanent shutdown.
Boltz says attackers now iterate faster than a team its size can find and patch, and that it cannot responsibly re-enable swaps for now. AI-assisted here means automated probing that surfaces bugs quickly, not an AI breaking Bitcoin. Refunds are still processed through the API and can also be claimed unilaterally, and wallets that used Boltz, like Aqua and Bull Bitcoin, are lining up other swap rails.
BlackRock has launched two tokenized money-market funds
BSTBL and BRSRV are built as onchain reserve assets that stablecoin issuers can hold to back their coins. These wrap money-market funds, which hold cash and US Treasuries, as blockchain tokens, so stablecoin firms can hold them as reserves and settle onchain.
Both are structured to qualify as eligible reserves for payment stablecoins under the GENIUS Act. BSTBL is issued on Ethereum via BNY Mellon, and BRSRV is multichain via Securitize.
Importantly, this is not a BlackRock stablecoin but a set of backing vehicles for issuers, and the shares are institutional-only for whitelisted wallets, so there is no retail token or airdrop. For context, BlackRock already manages about $60B in reserves for Circle, and its BUIDL fund holds over $2.6B, as tokenized Treasuries have grown to roughly $16B.
JPYC has closed a $38M extended Series B Round
JPYC, the issuer of Japan's first registered stablecoin, has raised $38M (about 6 billion yen) in an extended Series B to accelerate adoption of its yen-pegged token.
Backers include logistics group AZ-COM Maruwa, which plans to pay roughly 2,300 business partners in JPYC, and Metaplanet Ventures. JPYC launched Japan's first registered stablecoin in October 2025, is piloting payments at Lawson convenience stores, and is competing with SBI Group's JPYSC as megabanks weigh their own stablecoins.
Aschenbrenner's Fund Returns With a $400M Bet
Days after his AI hedge fund Situational Awareness nearly collapsed, ex-OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner has put $400M into a private company, his first move to rebuild.
Last week the fund imploded from about $45B to $10B in assets as margin calls, driven by leverage reported up to 400%, forced it to dump public bets like SK Hynix and CoreWeave to Ken Griffin's Citadel at a discount. The $400M private investment, completed Tuesday, is the first sign of how the 20-something manager plans to pick up the pieces.
Nikita Bier Steps Down as X Head of Product
Nikita Bier is out as X's Head of Product after ~400 days, a run as productive as it was controversial. He shipped ~30 products and stays on as adviser. But it was turbulent from the start: days in, Grok began calling itself "MechaHitler."
The heat never dropped, his creator-monetization overhaul split the base, and X caught a €120M EU fine and a California probe along the way. Fitting end: traders had been betting on Polymarket over when he'd quit. This week they cashed out.
Plume Rebrands RWA Platform Under New Plume Vaults Identity
Plume has introduced Plume Vaults, a unified platform for its tokenized real-world asset (RWA) yield products, consolidating the ecosystem under a single brand while maintaining support for existing Nest Credit users.
The platform currently secures $178 million in TVL, has processed over $706 million in transaction volume, and has facilitated the minting of more than 195,000 RWAs.
Plume Vaults offers institutional-grade yield strategies across private credit, U.S. Treasuries, ETFs, and structured products, with support from partners including Apollo, Centrifuge, Superstate, FalconX, Binance Wallet, Bybit, EtherFi, and Pendle.
$10B+ in clients assets left LayerZero in the last 3 months
The trigger wasn't price. It was the $292M Kelp bridge exploit back in April. Since then, issuer after issuer has quietly re-routed their cross-chain rails to Chainlink's CCIP, capped by BitGo moving WBTC ($7.3B).
When the bridge breaks, everything built on top starts hunting for safer rails. One exploit is redrawing entire cross-chain trust map.
ElizaOS founder Shaw Walters declared project's token dead
The move follows an April 2026 Burwick Law lawsuit that alleged the AI-agent project was falsely marketed as autonomous and independent while actually controlled by insiders.
Walters says the team spent its remaining treasury to settle: 'Their claim was ridiculous, but we didn't have the capital to legally fight it.' There will be no buybacks or foundation support, and Walters vowed never to tie another token to Eliza.
16 Mega-Funds Raised $27.6 Billion in Q2 2026
The mega-fund era isn't slowing down. ~$27.6B in fresh dry powder. Sequoia leads at $7B, ahead of Accel ($5B) and Menlo ($3B). And crypto held its ground in an AI-heavy quarter: a16z crypto's $2.2B fund ranks #4 overall, and with Haun Ventures ($1B), crypto pulled $3.2B into dedicated funds.

Cloudflare starts stablecoin wallet rollout for AI agents
Cloudflare is rolling out programmable stablecoin wallets that let AI agents pay for APIs, data and online content on their own.
The wallets run on Coinbase's x402 protocol, which serves payment instructions when an agent hits a paywall, so no accounts or API keys are needed. Owners can set spending limits, approved-merchant lists and per-transaction caps. Wallet handles are claimable now; funding and payments arrive soon.
Yellow Card Closes a $40M Strategic Round
Yellow Card, a stablecoin payment platform built for emerging markets, has closed a $40M strategic funding round, taking the total it has raised so far to $129.5M.
The round drew SC Ventures, Sony Innovation Fund, Polychain Capital, Blockchain Capital and others. The capital will grow Yellow Card's Global USD Accounts, letting businesses hold USD, swap stablecoins, manage treasury and tap local payment rails across more than 50 countries.
Lumia Recaps July With AI, RWA Growth, and Institutional Adoption
Lumia's July update highlighted continued momentum across the real-world asset sector, as tokenized asset value reached $37.55 billion and the number of RWA holders climbed to 1.48 million.
During the month, Lumia outlined its upcoming AI infrastructure, designed to support the full RWA lifecycle by helping users evaluate assets, manage portfolios, and navigate compliance, while assisting issuers with tokenization and market access.
OKX Reports Record Exchange Inflows After Coldcard Exploit
OKX Chief Compliance Officer Jonathan Brockmeier said the recent Coldcard exploit, one of the largest bitcoin hardware-wallet thefts on record, is pushing users back toward centralized exchanges.
“We're seeing record levels of inflows now to centralized exchanges post-Coldcard,” according to Brockmeier, adding that the trend is “the flip side of FTX,” when users rushed into self-custody after the exchange collapse.
Last week, Kulipa shut down, and 120,000 crypto cards stopped working overnight
Most holders had never heard of Kulipa. That's the catch: you don't choose the company that actually issues your crypto card. A handful of invisible issuers power the cards you use every day: MetaMask (Baanx), Phantom (Bridge), Ledger, Bitget Wallet, and more.
And the layer is consolidating fast: Stripe bought Bridge ($1.1B), Mastercard bought BVNK ($1.8B). The strong get acquired — the weak, like Kulipa, brick their partners' cards and disappear.
Your card is only as alive as its issuer. Here's who's really behind them 👇
DCG's Fortitude Buys a Nebraska Mining Site
Fortitude, the Zcash-mining arm of DCG, has bought a 12.5 MW data-center facility in Prosser, Nebraska, for a net $4.7M, expanding its owned-and-operated mining portfolio.
The site comes with land, a building and a 67 kV substation, plus cheap power near $0.045 per kWh that Fortitude says could cut its cost to about $40 per ZEC. It is the company's third Nebraska site in a 60+ MW, seven-site footprint.
The headline price is a gross $6.25M, or a net $4.7M after adjustments, so do not conflate the two. Fortitude's planned Nasdaq listing as TUDE, via a HeartSciences merger, is still pending and not yet approved. ZEC's recent rally is broader market momentum, not a result of this deal, and there is no token or airdrop tied to it.
Most exchanges keep your crypto, your stocks and your margin in separate boxes. Bitget just merged them
Its Unified Trading Account (UTA) is the industry's first to pool crypto, 100 tokenized US stocks (rTokens) and RWA into one shared margin account; 370+ assets, a single collateral pool.
That means one tokenized stock like rNVDA does four jobs at once: hold your exposure, earn dividends in USDT, back your futures margin, and pledge it for a stablecoin loan.
It's the third generation of the trading account, and $100M+ flowed in within the first month.
DeFiLlama Launches Its Mobile App With LlamaAI
DeFiLlama has launched an official mobile app for iOS and Android, putting its LlamaAI analyst in your pocket to build charts and dashboards from a single prompt.
DeFiLlama is the most-used free dashboard for DeFi data like TVL, yields and perps. In the app you type a plain-English question and LlamaAI returns live crypto charts and analysis, instead of building the view by hand. App users also get extra free queries.
LlamaAI itself is not new, having launched in late 2025, so the fresh part here is the mobile app, and being new it may have some beta rough edges. DeFiLlama has no token, and it warns users to avoid fake copies and download only from its official site. There is no airdrop involved.
