Global Sea-level Rise and Implication.
Why in News:
👉WMO recently released report “Global Sea-level Rise and Implications”
Key findings
👉11% of the global population i.e.896 million people lived within the Low Elevation Coastal Zone in 2020
👉It is expected to increase to beyond 1 billion people by 2050
👉Several big cities in all continents are threatened by the rise in sea level
👉India, China, Bangladesh and the Netherlands face the highest threat of sea-level rise globally
👉The population potentially exposed to a 100-year coastal flood is projected to increase by about 20% if global mean sea level rises by 0.15 metres relative to 2020 levels.

RECENT EXERCISE
💌 The Indian Navy organized mega biennial tri-services amphibious exercise 'AMPHEX 2023’ near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
💌 Indian Army and Egyptian Army have commenced Exercise Cyclone-I, the first-ever joint exercise between their special forces at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
💌 The 21st edition of the bilateral naval exercise between India and France titled ‘Varuna’ began on the western seaboard.
💌 Indian Air Force (IAF) and Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) will conduct their first Air exercise “Veer Guardian 23” from January 16 to 26 at Hyakuri air base and Iruma air base in Japan.

◇ Foremost silk producing state in India.
◇ It produces only mulberry silk accounts for over 50% of mulberry silk of the country.

◇ Produces about 13 percent of country’s total silk, most of which is of mulberry variety.

Seismic Zones in India:
✅There are four seismic zones (II, III, IV, and V) in India based on scientific inputs relating to seismicity, earthquakes occurred in the past and tectonic setup of the region.
✅Previously, earthquake zones were divided into five zones with respect to the severity of the earthquakes but the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) grouped the country into four seismic zones by unifying the first two zones.
✅Seismic Zone II:
Area with minor damage earthquakes corresponding to intensities V to VI of MM scale (MM-Modified Mercalli Intensity scale).
✅Seismic Zone III:
Moderate damage corresponding to intensity VII of MM scale.
✅Seismic Zone IV:
Major damage corresponding to intensity VII and higher of MM scale.
✅Seismic Zone V:
Earthquake zone V is the most vulnerable to earthquakes, where historically some of the country’s most powerful shocks have occurred.

Some Interested Fact About Vande Bharat Express Train :-
☃️ The first Vande Bharat Express was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 February 2019.
☃️ These trains have a self-propelled engine which can save diesel & reduce electricity usage by up to 30%.
☃️ The first Vande Bharat Express was manufactured by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
☃️ It was manufactured under the ‘Make in India’ programme, at a cost of about Rs 100 crore.
☃️ In the Union Budget for 2022-2023 the government has proposed the development & manufacture of 400 new Vande Bharat trains in the next three years.
☃️ In the South, India’s 5th Vande Bharat Express Train is the first semi-high-speed Trains.
Kosi river:
✅ The Kosi River is a trans-boundary river, running across important cities in Bihar and Nepal.
✅ Its origin is in Tibet.
✅ Joins Ganga in Bihar.
✅The Koshi River System includes some rivers that have their sources in the self-governing territory of Tibet in China.
✅These rivers include the Sun, Kosi, the Arun, and the Bhote Kosi.
✅The Kosi River is famous for being one of the biggest tributaries of the Ganga (or the Ganges).
✅It is also known as the “Sorrow of Bihar” as the annual floods.
✅ Its unstable nature has been attributed to the heavy silt it carries during the monsoon season, and flooding in India has extreme effects.
