🔆Nai Roshni scheme
✅It aims to empower and enhance confidence in Minority women by providing knowledge, tool and techniques for the Leadership Development of Women.
✅ It is a six-days non-residential/five-days residential training programme conducted for women belonging to a minority community between the age group of 18 years to 65 years.
✅The training modules cover areas related to Programmes for women, Health and Hygiene, Legal rights of women, Financial Literacy, Digital Literacy, Swachch Bharat, Life Skills, and Advocacy for Social and Behavioural changes.
✅The scheme was implemented through Programme Implementing Agencies (PIAs). Now, the scheme has been merged with PM VIKAS as a component.
✅It is run with the help of NGOs, Civil societies and Government Institutions all over the country.

🔆The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN’s highest body is in news after South Africa accuses Israel for genocide in gaza.
Situated at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands, the ICJ was established in June 1945, post-World War II, under the Charter of the United Nations.
The court has dual jurisdictional powers, which include offering legal opinions on matters referred by UN agencies (advisory jurisdiction) and resolving disputes between nations (contentious cases jurisdiction), and ensuring 'state responsibility' for violations of international law.
The Court consists of 15 judges.
Although the court’s rulings are legally binding and non-appealable, they often get defied due to a lack of an independent enforcement mechanism. The UNSC is authorized by the UN Charter to enforce the ICJ’s decisions but its compliance is usually subject to the political dominion of the Security Council's permanent members.

🔆Tibetan Buddhism
✅Recently, Dalai Lama named a US-born Mongolian boy as the 10th Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa, the head of the Janang tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
✅Buddhism originated in India and became the predominant religion in Tibet by the 9th century AD.
✅It evolved from the Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions of Buddhism, incorporating many tantric and shamanic practices of both post-Gupta period Buddhism in India.
✅Tibetan Buddhism also incorporates the Bon religion which was spread across Tibet before Buddhism’s arrival.
✅Tibetan Buddhism has 4 major schools: Nyingma (8th century), Kagyu (11th century), Sakya (1073) and Gelug (1409)
The Janang school (12th century) is one of the smaller schools that grew as an offshoot of the Sakya school.
🔆What is Gelug School?
✅Since 1640, the Gelug School has been the predominant school of Tibetan Buddhism.
✅ The Dalai Lama belongs to Gelug School (‘Dalai’ means ‘ocean’ in Mongol).
✅The Dalai Lama is the foremost spiritual and temporal authority of Tibet.
✅The 5th grand lama of the school, Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso, was first conferred the title of Dalai Lama.
✅To consolidate his rule, he instituted the tradition of succession through reincarnation in the Gelug School.
✅He claimed to be the reincarnation of Avalokiteshvara, one of the most important Bodhisattvas in Mahayana traditions.

🔆Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project : Telangana
The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme of Telangana is a multi-purpose irrigation project on the Godavari River in Kaleshwaram, Bhupalpally, Telangana.
The project starts at the confluence point of Pranahita River and Godavari River.
Originally called Pranahita-Chevella project in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, it was redesigned, extended and renamed as Kaleshwaram project in Telangana in 2014.

The Daspara village of Tripura is converted into a nature-based lifestyle and livelihood and reduced the use of chemical fertilizers. Dasapara is a home for 64 families which depends on agriculture and fishery. Daspara is one of the five successful bio-village 2.0
✅The bio village project aims to provide sustainable livelihood and food security to ensure holistic socio-economic development among rural communities.
✅The project supports the development of solar-powered agricultural equipment, energy-saving electrical devices, biogas, and biofertilizers at the local level.
✅The main objective of the project is to promote green technology like solar water pumps, biomass cook stoves, and biogas plants for sustainable production of agricultural and allied sector-related products.

🔘Black-Naped Pheasant-Pigeon
In News
Black-Naped Pheasant-Pigeon was rediscovered after 140 years.
About
◾️Before the recent rediscovery, Black-Naped Pheasant-Pigeon was first and last seen in 1882.
◾️It is a large, terrestrial pigeon having black and orange feathers and red eyes.
◾️It feeds on seeds and fallen fruits.
◾️The species is endemic to Fergusson Island in Papua New Guinea.
◾️Otidiphaps nobilis is part of the Columbidae family, which diverged from all other species during the Paleogene period, some 32.7 million years ago.
◾️The population is dwindling because of the loss of forest habitats, which is caused by the logging and conversion for subsistence agriculture gardens.
◾️Conservation activities of the species’ habitat are few and far between.
◾️In July 2021, though the species’ population is undetermined, was listed as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with an estimated population of 50 to 249 birds.

🔆Rules for allocation of symbols to unrecognised political parties
✅The Election Commission of India introduced new regulations for allocating symbols to Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs).
✅Now, these parties must provide:
🔰audited accounts from the last three financial years,
🔰expenditure statements from the last two elections, and
🔰the signature of the authorized party official along with their symbol application.
📍Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs)
✅Registration of political parties
Article 324 of the Indian Constitution grants the ECI the authority to register political parties.
✅The registration of all political parties is governed by the provisions of Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
✅According to the ECI, any party seeking registration must file an application (to the Secretary to the ECI) within 30 days of its formation.
📍RUPPs
These parties include:
🔰newly registered ones,
those that haven't gained sufficient votes to be a state/national party, and
🔰those that have never participated in elections since their registration.
🔰Such parties do not enjoy all the benefits extended to the recognised parties.
🔰A recognised political party shall either be a National party or a State party if it meets certain laid down conditions.
📍Unrecognised registered parties and election symbol
✅Unrecognised registered parties’ candidates can choose from free, non-exclusive symbols.
✅After being selected by parties, in subsequent elections, these symbols are declared free again for others to choose.

Crop diversification refers to the addition of new crops or cropping systems to agricultural production on a particular farm taking into account the different returns from value-added crops with complementary marketing opportunities. The aim of crop diversification is to increase crop portfolio so that farmers are not dependent on a single crop to generate their income.
Benefits:
▪️At present, 70-80% farmers have land below 2 hectares. To overcome this, existing cropping patterns must be diversified with high value crops such as maize, pulses, etc.
Crop diversification can better tolerate the ups and downs in price of various farm products and it may ensure economic stability of farming products.
▪️It refers to sudden adverse weather conditions like erratic rainfall, drought, hail, incidence of insect and pest disease. Under this situation, crop diversification through mixed cropping may be useful.
▪️Most of the Indian population suffers from malnutrition. Crops like pulses, oilseed, horticulture and vegetables can improve socio-economic status by adding quality to the food basket and also improve soil health with the aim of food safety and nutritional security.
Adoption of crop diversification helps in conservation of natural resources like introduction of legume in rice-wheat cropping system which has the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen to help sustain soil fertility
Challenges:
▪️Majority of cropped area in the country is completely dependent on rainfall.
▪️Sub-optimal and over-use of resources like land and water cause a negative impact on the environment and sustainability of agriculture.
▪️Inadequate supply of seeds and plants of improved cultivars.
Fragmentation of land holding less favouring modernisation and mechanisation of agriculture.
Poor basic infrastructure like rural roads, power, transport, communications, etc.
▪️Inadequate post-harvest technologies and inadequate infrastructure for post-harvest handling of perishable horticultural produce.
▪️Very weak agro-based industry.
Weak research – extension – farmer linkages.
▪️Inadequately trained human resources together with persistent and large-scale illiteracy among farmers.
▪️Host of diseases and pests affecting most crop plants.
Poor database for horticultural crops.
▪️Decreased investments in the agricultural sector over the years.
Role of emerging technologies in crop diversification:
▪️With the help of IT revolution, farmers are directly connected with grocery-customers (farm to fork model) leading to cultivation of high value perishable products (e.g., Big Basket, BlinkIt startup platforms).
▪️Aquaponics and urban farming are a technique of controlled environment cultivation which help in crop diversification in order to meet the heavy urban demand for perishable items.
▪️Through financial inclusion and digitisation, small farmers and women self-help groups have been able to ensure crop diversification by credit supply.
▪️In arid areas, technologies like Urea Deep Placement (UDP), Poly-bag Nursery farming, etc. have been introduced by Indo-Israel Agriculture Project.
▪️Soil health management assisted in facilitating right fertiliser usage, developing organic farming and providing GIS based thematic mapping for soil.

📌Similipal Kai Chutney:
🔸The Similipal kai chutney made with red weaver ants by the tribal people of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district (Odisha) received the geographical identity tag.
🔸Similipal Kai Chutney is popular in Mayurbhanj region for its healing properties and also deemed important for nutritional security of the tribal people.
🔸Many indigenous people from Mayurbhanj district venture into nearby forest to collect kai pimpudi (red weaver ant).
🔸Around 500 tribal families have been eking out a living by collecting and selling these insects and a chutney made with them.
🔸The scientists analysed the red weaver ants and found it contains valuable proteins, calcium, zinc, vitamin B-12, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, copper, amino acids, among others. Consuming the species can help boost the immune system and prevent diseases.
🔸After a month, this concoction is used as body oil for babies and to cure rheumatism, gout, ringworm and other diseases by the tribes.
