I advocate for doing this.
It may seem a bit goofy showing up to a range or going hiking in full kit, BUT, I promise you don't want your first time using parts of your kit being in the middle of a firefight or in the cold rain or whatever else scenario.
Larp if it helps you get comfy with your kit.
Even just shouldering your rifle then practicing mag reloads is great.
When the time comes you need to have that muscle memory, you need to know and be comfortable with your equipment.
