The Indian Navy on Monday said that a fire erupted onboard Indian Naval Ship Brahmaputra, causing the vessel to tilt heavily to its port side, with one junior sailor missing, for whom a search is currently underway.

According to a statement released by the Indian Navy, the incident at the INS Brahmaputra, a multi-role Frigate, occurred on the evening of 21 July, while the ship was undergoing refit at ND (Mbi), as reported.

The Indian Navy said: "A fire had broken out onboard the Indian Naval Ship Brahmaputra, a multi-role Frigate, on the evening of 21 Jul 24 while she was undergoing refit. The fire was brought under control by the ship’s crew with the assistance of firefighters from Naval Dockyard, Mumbai {ND (Mbi)} and other ships in the harbour, by the morning of 22 Jul 24. Further, follow-on actions including sanitisation checks for assessment of residual risk of fire were carried out."

Indian Army eliminated two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control in Keran Sector of Kashmir, on 18th July.

Alert troops observed the movement of two terrorists through thick foliage, on Indian side of LoC. The infiltrating terrorists were challenged, following which they opened fire leading to an intense firefight. In a major boost to its defence capabilities, India on Thursday approved a major plan to build military airfields in Lakshadweep island territories to keep an eye on growing Chinese activities in the region and expand its reach.

The Central government, at a high-level meeting held on Thursday, cleared the proposals, defence sources told ANI.

The proposal from the three services led by the Department of Military Affairs is to build a new airbase in Minicoy islands and extend the existing air field on Agatti island in the Arabian Sea on western side of India, they said.

The dual-purpose airfields, which would also be used by commercial airlines, would be capable of deploying and operating all types of fighter and transport aircraft, along with long-range drones and would give an edge to the Indian forces in the region.
