Pencil Sculptures
Jennifer Maestre was born in 1959 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her sculptures were originally inspired by the form and function of the sea urchin. The urchin's spines, so dangerous yet beautiful, serve as a clear warning against contact.
The pencil sections represent aspects of sharpness and smoothness for two very different textural and aesthetic sensations. Paradox and surprise are integral to her choice of materials.
Pencils are ordinary objects, here they become structure. And sometimes there is a real fragility and vulnerability in the brutal aspect of the sculptures!

Disappearing sculptures
Korean artist Ho Yoon Shin creates amazing paper sculptures that, when you look at them from a certain angle, you not only won't realize what they are, but you won't even notice them.
