Hello all,
This is Hitesh Suthar, Indian Forest Service, 2023 Batch (IFS Exam 2022, AIR 10)
Since this is the last week before the prelims, this is one of the critical times in the stage of this exam.
Based on my experience of clearing 6 CSE prelims (including 2 IFS Prelims), I would like to outline the strategy that I followed in my preparation.
What to do in this last week?
• First of all, BE CONFIDENT and RELAXED and believe in whatever you have studied. You might be feeling like you are forgetting everything that you have studied. If this is the case, then you are a normal personality, everybody feels like that. I used to feel like this even in my 6th attempt.
• Just revise whatever you have studied so far. Consolidate it so that if any question comes from whatever you have studied, you answer it correctly.
• The entire syllabus can be revised twice in this one week.
• Have proper sleep and if you have the habit of studying late in the night, then try to align your daily routine according to the exam day.
• Do not read anything new, unless it is taking only 15-20 mins and not eating up your time of revision.
About CSAT
• I am sure, you have given serious attention to CSAT after seeing whatever has happened last year. If you are pro in CSAT, and going to the exam without studying it. I would suggest do not commit this mistake. At least get into the rhythm for CSAT by solving some questions, because if you are not in rhythm, you might take 1-1.5 min to solve a question, but if you go after solving some question, you might solve the same question in 30-40 seconds. This saves lot of time.
• For comprehension, try to solve UPSC questions and check them from official answer key because many a times the interpretation of UPSC differs from that of coaching institutions, and aligning your thought process with UPSC in comprehension is very important.
• But again, you would have to balance the time between GS and CSAT.
Exam day:
• If you have been sincere and disciplined then be confident in what you have read and revised.
• There would definitely be some questions which you would not be knowing. Do not panic if you do not know answers of few questions and such questions can be first 5-10-15 questions as well. I used to go with a mindset that ‘I do not know 20 questions’ and if I could not solve any question then I used to put that question in that 20 questions’ quota.
• Be ready to face surprises in exam. In 2022 UPSC asked 7-8 questions like “How many of the above statements are correct” and in 2023, there were numerous such questions. Such surprises are for everybody because almost all candidates go with same strategy, which was ‘Elimination technique’ in above case.
• Be a bit flexible, you might have to change your strategy in the exam hall as well. I used to rely mainly on Maths in CSAT, but last year I had to switch to comprehension in CSAT.
Finally, everybody faces a little bit of anxiety, but if you have been sincere in your preparation so far, you just have to believe yourself. Prelims is more about those 2+2 hours. Be confident and follow the strategy that you have followed so far in the mock papers.
Best of Luck to all of you…
