How I did it
I've read several books on success and most of them talk about stepping outside of your comfort zone to become a better man and I used to think "Yeah, that's right but how do I do it?" Unfortunately, most books talk about this topic in general terms without going into details of accomplishing this.
Since I love making new friends, I decided to accomplish this task by talking to strangers, especially tourists and here is how I did it:
I was standing on the subway station when I saw this tourist carrying a huge guitar. He walked past me and I thought "Hmmm, he looks interesting. I gotta talk to him or I'll never see him again."
There was a small problem. I didn't know how to start a conversation. Then I decided to ask him an assumption question that would naturally lead to a conversation. What happened next is in the audio below!
🎧 Listen: Nathan - An American Singer 🎧
I met him again the next day and he told me lots of interesting things about his travels, his life, family, beliefs etc. This would have never happened if someone hadn't decided to step out of his comfort zone!
You can do it too
If you're crazy like me and want to do the same, here are my tips:
1️⃣ Turn on the recorder on your phone b/c later you can analyze your conversation and learn from your mistakes and get better at it. Plus, if you keep the audio file safe, you can listen to it after 2-3 years and see how horrible😄 your English was and how much progress you've made!
2️⃣ Learn this by heart and use it every time you meet a tourist👉 "Excuse me, can I tell you something? Ok, don't take it the wrong way but I really like to speak English and make new friends and I just saw and you looked friendly so I decided to come and say Hi" you can use your own words if you like.
3️⃣ Don't ask, Guess! When you ask questions in the beginning of a conversation, it feels like an interrogation and kind of annoying. Instead, you can make assumptions. For example, instead of asking "where are you from?" just say "I think you're from England" or instead of asking "what do you do?" just say "If I'm not mistaken, you're a businessman, right?"
4️⃣ Short answers = LEAVE If the person is giving you short responsenses, that means s/he is not really willing to talk or in a hurry or something else. If so, don't disgrace our nation and keep talking like a retard. Just say "it was nice meeting you and have a good day" But trust me 80% of tourists are nice people.
My final tip: When you can't decide what to do, just remember this👉 the hard thing to do and the right thing to do are usually the same thing!

Find the time
There is a lot of money spent on English training in large and small corporations. From what I can gather it can consist of a limited amount of contact with an English language instructor, often a native English speaker. This contact can be as seldom as once a week and often in a group. In the period between these English learning sessions the employee-students often do very little, because they are either too busy or not very interested. I suspect that people who are interested manage to find the time.
Uncertainty
To be a successful language learner you have to deal with uncertainty. You have to accept that there will always be words that you do not understand, and words that you pronounce wrong. There will always be times when you do not really get your meaning across as clearly or elegantly as you would like. You may meet someone or phone someone and the communication is more difficult than you would like. There can even be rejection.
Once you accept this as part of the adventure of language learning you are on your way. If you can actually enjoy the experience, the challenge of overcoming these difficulties and seeing them gradually become smaller, then you will enjoy learning. If you enjoy learning you will improve.
Language improvement is so gradual and so uneven that it is easy to get discouraged. Therefore, especially for adult learners, it is important to just enjoy the process. The more you can learn from interesting and meaningful content, the more enjoyable the experience can be. The less you are forced to be accurate or correct, the better.
So I always say. Do not expect perfection from yourself, but constantly work to improve. And learn to accept uncertainty—it is one of the charms of language learning.
Speak when you feel like it
So when is the best time to start speaking? Some say we should start speaking from the beginning. I prefer to build up some knowledge and familiarity with the language first by listening and reading. Who is right? The answer, to me, is obvious.
You do what you want to do. The overwhelming principle for the self -directed language learner is that it should be fun. If it is fun you will keep doing it. If you feel like speaking right away, speak. If you do not want to, don't. If you speak, do not worry about your mistakes —you will eventually make fewer mistakes.

A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp, and he spotted that the elephants weren’t being kept in cages or held by the use of chains. All that was holding them back from escaping the camp, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.
As the man gazed upon the elephants, he was completely confused as to why the elephants didn’t just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp. They could easily have done so, but instead they didn’t try to at all.
Curious and wanting to know the answer, he asked a trainer nearby why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape.
The trainer replied;
“when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The only reason that the elephants weren’t breaking free and escaping from the camp was because over time they adopted the belief that it just wasn’t possible.
Moral of the story: No matter how much the world tries to hold you back, always continue with the belief that what you want to achieve is possible. Believing you can become successful is the most important step in actually achieving it. @aceuz
