How to remember new words?

📝Write them down in a vocabulary notebook.

👀Look at the words again after 24 hours, after one week and after one month.

📖Read, read, read. The more times you ‘see’ a word the more easily you will remember it.

🗣Use the new words. You need to use a new word about ten times before you remember it!

✍️Do word puzzles and games like crosswords, anagrams and wordsearches.

🔖Make word cards and take them with you. Read them on the bus or when you are waiting for your friends.

🤝Learn words with a friend. It can be more fun and easier to learn with someone else.

📚Learn how to use a dictionary. What information is next to a word in the dictionary?

8️⃣Learn a few words but not too many. About eight new words a day is a good number.

📎Use an app like Memrise to help you learn new words.

Small talks can be boring 😬

So you can make them more fun😁

✅If they're asking you how your weekend was, the quickest way to turn small talk into a real conversation is to go beyond the boring, "it was good." Why was it good?

✅If your colleague just say "My weekend was good" , then take hold of that and ask them what they did. And when you do, actually listen to what they say and try to find something more you can either ask about or to which you can relate.

🤝Small Talk at Work

You can ask your colleagues the following questions:

“How are you doing today?”
“How’s your morning going so far?”
“How’s your day been?”
“Has your day been busy so far?”
“My afternoon’s been kinda slow. How’s yours going?”

If someone asks you about your day, try to focus on being positive – and show that you are a hard worker!

“This morning has been pretty busy, but I like it that way.”
“Things are slower than usual, so I’ve been able to work through my to-do list.”
“I’ve been focused on the presentation for my client later this week. I’m looking forward to it.”
“Things are off to a good start!”
