Well, I know now that my letter addressed to the EP against the introduction of the digital euro has landed on somebody's desk! As two e-mails were waiting in my inbox for me this morning, from two different parties within the EP: Venstre from 🇩🇰 and die Grüne from 🇩🇪). As I do totally realize that the ladies and gentlemen of the European Parliament are not at all obliged to pay any attention to anything the audience has to say, I consider this as a nice bit of result 😁 And, of course, this gives me an opportunity to follow up with a polite e-mail asking them: so, what are you going to do about it?

And there it is: the EUROZONE is officially IN A RECESSION (again!).
Even though Europe's economists & politicians (like that witch Lagarde 🧙♀️) have been shouting for 3 years that "inflation is temporary" and that "it's not going to be that bad" and that "the worst is behind us", Eurostat - the EU's statistical agency - has now updated the growth figures of the European economy and revealed that Europe is therefore in recession after all. What a surprise, right? 🙄
Just goes to show how ignorant and unworldly Europe's policymakers really are...
Striking point: which country's economy is doing worst in all of Europe? The Netherlands 🇳🇱 With a contraction of 0.7 per cent, followed by Germany and France ...
Could it have something to do with the chronic mismanagement of the national economies by their autocratic political elites? Could it be that democracy and human rights have effectively been undermined in these countries, which is why both France, Germany and the Netherlands have experienced almost constant unrest and rebellion for the past three years? Or might it be the way the European economy is being mercilessly destroyed by the dogmatic rules of the totally unelected European Commission? Might it?
This is why we need to get rid of the junta of Von der Leyen over 🇪🇺.

Interesting point of view:
Rowan Atkinson (a famous electrical engineer, as well as the man behind Mr. Bean and Blackadder ...) states that he feels "increasingly duped" because "they're wonderful (if a bit soulless) machines, but electric driving is the environmental panacea".
He goes on to describe why the environmentally friendly solution would be to keep your existing car and make it run as cleanly as possible (including by means of artificial fuels that already exist) for as long as possible. Instead of getting a new lease car every three years, with a battery that's made out of rare earths and doesn't last too long ...
Sensible.
As he says: electric driving is wonderful, but it just isn't there yet ...

CHINA IN EUROPE
To continue with the topic of China: Since the beginning of this century, China has been trying to gain influence in Europe - sometimes through "bilateral consultations", sometimes by buying up European infrastructure outright (such as they did with the port of Piraeus and the port of Hamburg) and often through espionage practices - such as the illegal Chinese police stations in Europe (in Rotterdam and Brussels and Rome, and most other major European cities, in fact).
This is all as part of the "New Silk Road", which is a part of the PRC's "Belt & Road" program. Which is a global strategic plan that the aims to make the whole world an economic extension of China.
Of course, this is the same tactic they have used in Africa: investing heavily in infrastructure, roads, mines, railroads, TV stations, parliamentary buildings, you name it! But then turns out, that there is the fine print ...
An vital part of the Chinese approach rests on the willing support of local politicians, who get bribed, extorted or outright threatened to to give their cooperation. In this way, the Chinese trie to turn their natural enemies into communist collaborators. And that goes a long way. EU PLAN FOR MASS SURVEILLANCE RUNS INTO A HURDLE
Earlier, we saw that the European Commission launched the plan to "scan" all messages from all online messaging services for suspicious content using "AI". This under the guise of detecting and combating child abuse.
In itself, of course, this is a noble-sounding justification, although it is ironic that at the same time the surgical mutilation of children in the name of Transgender is fully endorsed by the same Commission ... 😱
However, this EU surveillance initiative would mean a N infringement of European citizens' privacy rights, which are already enshrined in several existing laws. This is why the EU's own inhouse legal service has cautioned against this plan, as it might not be compatible with existing laws, and could therefore - potentially - be challenged as soon as it would be published.
In short: even the EU is internally not 100% on board with this plan for European AI-powered mass surveillance 🔍 that would effectively transform the EU into a true police state.
That said, of course, we already know that progressive member-states like the Netherlands and Belgium will introduce this anti-privacy legislation anyway. 🤨

And she's right: We could end the war in Ukraine RIGHT NOW with an international agreement to give Ukraine the status of a neutral state, with "Swiss-style" neutrality - Ukraine neither a protectorate of NATO (read: US) nor a member of the EU, nor a province of Russia. But a neutral Ukraine. With self-governance for the two breakaway republics as autonomous territories within Ukraine. Let people govern themselves for a change!
What we need are real, practical solutions, not more hollow rhetoric about "all or nothing" (which just means: more death and destruction for ordinary folks)
If we both denazify and de-communistify Ukraine (while banning the US from ever meddling again) and make Ukraine a self-reliant, neutral state, with homerule but not total independence for the donbass republics, we could actually achieve a lasting peace (oh, and avoid World War III while we're at it).
Any better ideas? Because I'd ❤️ to hear 'em!

I sent an open letter to the EP against the DIGITAL EURO
The European Central Bank & European Commission announced that they want to introduce a "framework for the DIGITAL EURO" somewhere in June 2023. - I think the digital euro is a frankly TERRIBLE idea. And I have plenty of arguments. Which is why I wrote & sent an open letter to all 500+ members of the @europeanparliament asking them to vote AGAINST the digital euro (including translations in 23 European languages).
Because direct democracy has to start somewhere, right?

THE SLOW FALL OF THE GREENBACK 💲
Since the end of World War II, the US dollar has been the largest reserve currency on earth. This means that (until now) international trade between countries is almost exclusively done in the dollar.
However, we see that the world (with the exception of Europe, whose politicians are still totally in the "transatlantic" camp) is starting to get fed up with the economic dominance of the US.
To counter the exceptional position of the US dollar, China and Brazil have now decided to use only their own currencies (the Yuan and the Real) for their mutual trade, without converting them to dollars first - which makes perfect sense, if you think about it 🤔💡
This is an important moment. For it is a nail in the coffin of America's global economic dominance. The follow-up question will be: Will Europe also be smart enough to start settling its international trade in euros only? Or will the EU let that opportunity pass it by too and keep relying on the US dollar?

COMMITTEE FOR THE PROTECTION OF JOURNALISTS' EU REPORT In case you missed it: the Committee for the Protection of Journalists (Bureau for the Protection of Journalists) has issued its report "Fragile Progress". Conclusion in a nutshell:
1. press freedom in Europe is fragile
2. the EU is not doing enough to defend press freedom & transparency
3. the EU's lack of transparency (including Von der Leyen's refusal to share the Pfizer texts with the EP) means that the EU cannot be taken seriously as a defender of press freedom, as there is a contradiction between what the EU says and what the EU does.
In short: the EU has failed to protect press freedom and openness of information.
