Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images In it to win it. As Bayern Munich rounds into its 2024/25 Champions League campaign, Vincent Kompany will face the same task his predecessors could not deliver on: a UCL trophy. With this year’s final taking place in Munich, the stakes could not be higher. But Kompany lives and breathes high stakes football.“We shouldn’t overcomplicate things,” the 38-year-old expressed in a press conference at the end of August (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “It’s about us wanting to win every game, so we would have a chance of winning titles. It’s also about the way we play football. We have many good players and the players are currently showing good energy. Hopefully that will continue over the entire season. The goals are very high, but that’s why we’re all here.”Last season was several steps back for the Bavarians, as they failed to secure a single title after eleven straight seasons of winning the Bundesliga before that. Can Kompany deliver the goods — not just domestically but in European competition?

Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images The manager has an idea what he wants Bayern Munich’s opponents to feel... Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is only in his first season with the club, but he knows just how much of a juggernaut the club can be. For Kompany, he referred back to his playing days in communicating how Bayern Munich’s opponents can sometimes feel. “If you play against Bayern, it has to represent an almost impossible mission. I’m not saying it’s going to happen straight away, I’m not saying that’s where we are right now, but when I played against the very best Bayern teams, they could give you that feeling. It’s not like this every year, but some teams have given you that feeling and that’s what you remember. For us, it’s the goal to come back as quickly as possible to give that feeling to many opponents,” Kompany UEFA.com (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The aims are very simple. You always want the highest level. For us, whenever we speak about any game, any trophy, it’s always about trying to win the competition, and the Champions League is obviously the most difficult one. With the teams who have won it in recent years, there are a few who will obviously aim for the same, but it’s a special venue for the final and there is a special feeling here about the Champions League.”Bayern Munich will gets it opportunity to see how Dinamo Zagreb feels about playing this version of the Bavarians.Looking for a more in-depth preview of the game? Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images The Champions League is here! Dinamo Zagreb knows it facing an uphill battle against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday, but that does not mean that the squad is just going to roll over and take an “L.”Head coach Sergej Jakirović does not want to tip his hand ahead of the big game “Today we rotated many variants and positions. Tomorrow we will decide which formation we will choose so that we suffer as little as possible without the ball, and that we can do something with the ball. There are few weaknesses in Bayern’s game. Harry Kane has a lot of freedom in their game. He drops deep, and then the other attackers run into the space. We have to communicate well to close down the players in the spaces, but also in the penalty box because Kane is a natural finisher,” said Jakirović (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We have a great game ahead of us against a great opponent. Bayern is a formidable, well-organized team. We analyzed them yesterday, you don’t even know where to start with how much quality they have. Our ambition must not end with just qualifying for the Champions League. We have to be brave and decisive. We’ll have to suffer for most of the game. We know how powerful Bayern are. I hope we can match them in some phases of the game. It will be interesting to see if we can threaten them in transition. It’s important that we enjoy the game and not hide”For striker Bruno Petković, just showing up to compete is not enough. “We are not satisfied with just being in the Champions League. Bayern is one of the best teams in the world. They started the season very well. We’re aware of their qualities. But we also have our qualities. We have to play our cards tomorrow and try to get a point or all three points,” Petković remarked. When asked about potentially scoring against the Bavarians, the striker said some other things were more important: “Scoring against Bayern? Tomorrow I would rather the team gets at least a point, rather than me assisting or scoring. A good result is important to me because I’m a team player. If I score, I would be glad. I would like to score 100 goals if possible. But the most important thing is the team and getting a positive result.”Looking for a more in-depth preview of the game? VfL Wolfsburg v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Goretzka is hardly playing under Vincent Kompany, so it could be time for him to part ways with Bayern. Leon Goretzka’s prospects at Bayern Munich for this season are not looking too good at all. From the club’s first four competitive matches of the season, the German midfielder has only recorded a total of one minute of action, when he came on as a late substitute in the 2-0 win over SC Freiburg at the Allianz Arena in the Bundesliga. He was not in the squad for the most recent 6-1 win at Holstein Kiel, nor was he in the squad for the 4-0 win over SSV Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal last month.Goretzka was heavily linked with a move away from Bayern during the summer transfer window, but nothing wound up materializing despite Max Eberl making it clear to the player he really is not in Vincent Kompany’s primary plans for this season. Both SSC Napoli and Atletico Madrid has loosely expressed interest in trying to sign Goretzka from Bayern over the summer, and even Galatasaray had made late moves for him, but the player was willing to stay at Bayern and fight for his place rather than take a potential wage cut to go elsewhere to get more minutes.Per new information from football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), Goretzka could still wind up being sold by Bayern during the January transfer window. This will become more likely if his current situation within the team does not change within the next couple of months. With the busy, packed fixtures list coming later this month and in October across all three fronts, there will certainly be chances for Kompany to make rotations and Goretzka to possibly get some minutes, but the evidence on display already does not suggest that will often be the case. With Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, and João Palhinha in the squad as the main central midfielders, chances are few and far between for Goretzka. Not to mention, Kompany can also use Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro in midfield if need be. Nonetheless, Goretzka also needs to consider his future with Julian Nagelsmann and the German national team. If he wants to get recalled to the national team and be in the mix for the squad for the 2026 World Cup, he needs to be playing far more regularly.

Holstein Kiel - Bayern Munich Photo by Gregor Fischer/picture alliance via Getty Images The Champions League season for Bayern Munich is set to begin... In his pregame press conference, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany wanted to stress that he respect Dinamo Zagreb — and also that his team does not do anything different whether it is facing Dinamo Zagreb or FC Barcelona. “It’s a talented, technically strong team. They’re used to having the ball a lot in the final third and finding gaps that way. It’s a team that’s good at defending the box, they don’t give up much space. We want to push through our game. Hopefully that will bring us success,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I can’t differentiate too much between individual games. There should be no difference between Zagreb and Barcelona. We want to achieve our goals in every game and get points. We know the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. That’s our priority.“The dream is there for the fans, they can dream. The most important thing for me is that we show it on the pitch. We have a difficult game tomorrow. The important thing is that we play well and win tomorrow. We hope that the fans can dream [of the final] for a long time.”Kompany of course, will have to deal with the right-back situation given the news that Sacha Boey is out for “weeks.”“We have options. We’ll think about it again this evening. We don’t have much time. It’s a pity for Sacha, he was in good form. We hope he comes back quickly. I’ll not reveal now who will play [at right-back] tomorrow,” said Kompany. “Josip will still be out for a while. We wish him well. He has established himself in the league and developed well. We miss him. We don’t want to rush anything, the most important thing is that he gets completely fit again.”Finally, Kompany was — somehow — asked about what he will be wearing on the sidelines tomorrow. Clearly, the coach had not put much thought into his potential attire. “I didn’t expect this question. I haven’t thought about it for a second. I’m preparing for the game just like I did the last game against Kiel and the next one against Bremen. It’s still football, we have to play the game,” Kompany noted. Bayern Munich has the big task ahead of turning over its roster, reigning in the wage bill, all while retaining its key stars.Board member for sport Max Eberl knows that will not be easy but is feeling good. Eberl gave a quick update on the club’s approach to two key players, midfielder Joshua Kimmich and attacker Jamal Musiala, whose contracts expire in 2025 and 2026, respectively.“Both are players who can make the difference in every game, especially in big games” Eberl said for BR24 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We want to show them appreciation, support them and make them feel comfortable. Tottenham Hotspur v FC Bayern Munich - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Bayern’s first game in the new Champions League format! Bayern Munich have not lost a UEFA Champions League group since 2017, but this isn’t the group stage any more. The newly christened “league phase” of the revamped UCL format pits the club against a larger number of teams from a variety of different nations, including some of the favorites to win the competition. Despite it being his first season in the Champions League, Vincent Kompany will be under intense scrutiny. Dinamo Zagreb aren’t exactly one of Europe’s heavyweights, but they still qualified for the top level of European football. They can’t be taken for granted. The goal will be to finish within the top 8. Kompany has a fine squad at his disposal, even with the injury crisis at right-back. You can’t really complain when you have the likes of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, a seemingly rejuvenated Serge Gnabry, João Palhinha, Aleksandar Pavlović, Joshua Kimmich, and more. It’s Bayern time. FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images A proposal including a pay cut has (allegedly) not been well-received... According to a report from CaughtOffside, Leroy Sané is “not happy” with the latest contract offer from Bayern Munich, which is said to include a pay cut. If an agreement cannot be reached Arsenal FC and Newcastle United would like to bring in the winger: Arsenal and Newcastle United remain interested in Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane and could move for him as he nears the end of his contract at the Allianz Arena.CaughtOffside understands Sane is not happy with Bayern trying to offer him a new deal with a lower salary, and this could lead to the Germany international leaning increasingly towards leaving his current club.Sources have told CaughtOffside that Arsenal and Newcastle are looking closely at Sane due to his potential availability soon, with both clubs in need of more attacking options in the near future.Eddie Howe is understood to be a big fan of Sane, while there is a recognition that the Magpies could do with bolstering their options in that area of the pitch after parting ways with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh this summer. This report comes just a day after news from England indicated that Jamal Musiala rejected an offer from Bayern Munich. While it is still very early — and the validity of any of these reports can be questioned — Bayern Munich has its work cut out for it in working to secure deals with Sané, Musiala, and Joshua Kimmich among others, while keeping its salary budget under control.Looking for a deep tactical dive into Bayern Munich’s massive 1-6 win over Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga? Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images Despite all the reports that claim Eberl is trying to make the club in his image, it seems the man has a different plan... Fresh off witnessing new head Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany mastermind a thrilling 6-1 victory over newly promoted Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel, Max Eberl sat down with Sport1 Doppelpass to speak about several topics. One of those topics was Bayern’s incredible 11-year dominance of the Bundesliga, which ended this year by an unstoppable Bayer Leverkusen side. Now Bayern find themselves in the unfamiliar position of challengers to dethrone the king rather than the one looking down from the top of the pile. How much does that prompt a rethink?Eberl was asked about the mistakes of the last years, including the many dissenting voices within the club, and how Eberl is going about fixing it amongst a possible rethink. @iMiaSanMia captured Eberl’s response: “Bayern Munich won the title for eleven years. Now that we were not champions last season, everything was viewed very, very critically. We are taking the blows head on and want to rebuild our train again. [What has made Bayern so great, a unity of quality and the capacities the club has, along with the decision makers at the club, we are trying to unite that.] Vincent Kompany will get the time for that - this is the statement from Bayern Munich, not from Max Eberl.”It seems that, while Eberl is looking to correct some of the things that went wrong over the last few years that led to such dissonance and bring the whole organization together, he is against completely restructuring things from the ground up. After all, the club is far from a disaster. This is in stark contrast to the many reports that the former Borussia Mönchengladbach stalwart wants to stamp his own authority on the club and make things his own. Now is this the right decision? Just like Kompany, Eberl will need time to prove his way works. Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s massive 6-1 blowout of Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga? City, United, Barca could duel with Bayern for PSG’s Simons (PSG Talk)Bayern Munich is rumored to have its eyes on Paris Saint-Germain loanee Xavi Simons as a 2025 summer transfer window target. Simons, who is spending this season with RB Leipzig, is also on the radar of several other big clubs including FC Barcelona, Manchester United, and Manchester CIty: Paris Saint-Germain loanee Xavi Simons went on loan this past summer for a second straight season with RB Leipzig. Nonetheless, it was a short-term solution to the situation, and it’s likely that, in 2025, there will be a long-term fix.The 21-year-old was linked with moves to big clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United throughout the summer. However, new suitors are surfacing for the player. Football Insider reported on Sunday, citing sources, that Manchester City have set their sights on signing Simons as a long-term successor to Kevin de Bruyne.De Bruyne’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, marking the end of a decade with Manchester City, where he’s won six Premier League titles and a Champions League.Additionally, the report reveals that the Dutch international is a priority target for Pep Guardiola’s side, but they will face stiff competition from Liverpool and Bayern Munich. He scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists, which caught the attention of several Premier League clubs. This season, Simons has appeared in four matches across all competitions, scoring one goal and registering one assist.Leverkusen making one last run at Tah, but LFC could enter fray (Sport Bild via 90Min.com)According to a report form Sport Bild (as captured by 90Min.com), Bayer Leverkusen will take another run at extending the contract of Jonathan Tah, despite the long odds: Bayer Leverkusen will make one last attempt to tie Jonathan Tah down to a new contract. We’re looking forward to the start tomorrow,” Neuer said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). It is still early, but Neuer had some thoughts on how things have gone so far under new boss Vincent Kompany. “We sometimes have 1v1 situations in defense. Without further ado, here is the Bayern Campus Round Up:Bayern II 2-2 AubstadtBayern II lineup (with subs): Pavlešić - Brückner (61. Rüger), Dettoni, Breitkreuz, Aznou - Dell’Erba, Aseko, Denk (71. Wagner) - Irankunda (61. Scott), Unsöld (61. Kusi-Asare), Demircan.Bayern goalscorers: 1:2 Wagner (87.), 2:2 Volkmuth (O.G.) (90.+3)Bayern welcome Aubstadt into their stadium, hoping to start another winning streak. Their previous game saw them come up against a bottom half of the table side, dominate possession, struggle to create clear cut chances and concede a cheap goal to drop points. The same thing happened here. After just 13 seconds, goalkeeper Anthony Pavlešić horribly misjudged a ball over the top and subsequently bringing down the attacker who had gotten in behind him to score. And so Aubstadt were immediately gifted a penalty, which they used to fire themselves into an early lead.Bayern dominated and pushed Aubstadt back far into their own half, but a goal was not to come. First center back Steve Breitkreuz’s shot was superbly saved, then individual brilliance from wingers Emirhan Demircan and Nestory Irankunda saw them create their own opportunity but fail to convert. Aubstadt then had several big chances to score before the break, but were unable to capitalize.Bayern kept pushing and pushing in the second half, but over-committed, allowing the visitors to grab a second on a quick counter following a set piece. The extraordinary resilience of the youngsters has to be praised, however, as they simply never gave up until the end, kept going and never lost their composure despite how much was going wrong. Brilliant work by striker Jonah Kusi-Asare and Kurt Rüger set up Maximilian Wagner for the crucial first goal in the 87th before a beautifully floated cross from Adam Aznou found the head of Kusi-Asare in the 93rd minute whose header was deflected into the back of the net by an unfortunate defender. The joy and relief was everywhere to see. Aznou fell to his knees and punched the air in joy. Everybody ran around, excited, before someone picked up the ball to bring it to the halfway line. Unfortunately, an even more miraculous third goal could not be had before the final whistle blew. With this result, despite the tenacious comeback, Bayern II slip to 4th place in the Regionalliga Bayern standings with 18 points after 8 games, 3 points behind 1st place with a game in hand. The next match will be against Hankofen-Hailing on Friday, September 20, at 10:00AM CST.Bayern U-19 2-1 FC Ingolstadt U-19Bayern U-19 lineup (with subs): Klanac - Dalpiaz, Mijatović, Scholl (62. Puljić), Ofli - Chávez (46. Olychenko), Santos (86. Yildiz), Nasrawe - Wilson (71. Schuhbauer), Codjo-Evora (62. Eckl), Richter (62. Chemwor).Bayern goalscorers: 1:0 Nasrawe (18., penalty), 2:1 Chemwor (75.).It is important to set the scene here. Despite the side’s perfect 5 wins from 5 matches to start the season, this had all the makings of an insurmountable match. Bayern were not just up against capable opponents, as Ingolstadt’s U-19s came into the match 2nd in the table, having won 3 of their first four matches, but this match took place on a Thursday. In a team filled with individuals who just coming back from representing their nation’s youth sides during an international break, this was chaos. Players had to adapt to Germany’s time zone again and had extremely limited time to train with the rest of the team before this top game was set to be played. Therefore it was encouraging to see Bayern…
