Germany Training And Press Conference Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Germany was devastatingly good vs. Hungary... Madrid keeping close eye on Kimmich (Madrid Universal)Real Madrid is well aware of Bayern munich star Joshua Kimmich’s contract situation. A free agent at the end of this season, Kimmich could be the kind of inexpensive transfer the club needs to keep its books balanced for the 2025/26 season: As revealed in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are attentive to the situation of Joshua Kimmich. The 29-year-old’s contract with the Bavarians ends next summer and his immediate future is still unclear. Bayern Munich are pushing to renew the veteran’s contract and will fight until the very end as they are with Davies. The player, however, is undecided and keeps his option and is willing to attempt to adapt to a new league.Barcelona, as it stands, are well placed to land Kimmich given the presence of Hansi Flick at the helm. Should an economic battle emerge, however, Real Madrid will have the edge. Should Kimmich arrive, he will serve as a direct competitor to Aurelien Tchouameni in the defensive midfield but can also serve as a handy option at right-back.Needless to say, it would be a win-win situation for Real Madrid who can kill two birds with one stone. Last season, Kimmich made 28 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring one goal and providing six assists in the process. Further, he created 11 big chances and averaged 2.6 key passes per game. This season, he has made two appearances for the club playing in midfield and appears to be a firm part of Vincent Kompany’s plans.Kimmich’s future in Bavaria is open at the moment. He seems to want to stay with the club, but this is probably the last contract he will receive in his prime — and the last opportunity for him to really prove himself at another club if that is a venture he wants to take on. Germany Training And Press Conference Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images The youngster could have used the guidance In the wake of the Euros, several giants of German football have decided to hang up their international boots. Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, and Ilkay Gündogan all announced their retirement from the national team, and while many fans expected some of these decisions, there were still a few surprises.Aleksandar Pavlović, for one, had a few surprises himself. The Bayern Munich youngster and star talent was recently asked about the retirements, and if he was surprised by any of them. As a response, and reflecting on the announcements, Pavlović shared his thoughts (captured by @iMiaSanMia): I had a feeling it was coming with Thomas and Toni. I didn’t expect it with Ilkay, and Manuel Neuer really surprised me with his post on Instagram. I thought he would continue until the World Cup.”Given their longevity, the decision from Müller and Kroos seemed to be almost inevitable this season, but was still a huge blow for DFB fans all over the world. The other retirements were of course a surprise to almost everyone who received the news, including the DFB squad. FC Bayern München v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Does he have a point here? The shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d’Or has been out for a while now, but Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala was left out despite impressive performances in the calendar year. Folks at the club were surprised at the omission, but former midfielder and 1990 Ballon d’Or winner Lothar Matthäus claims that the unrest within the club.“With the level of unrest at FC Bayern over the past two years, no player there can win the Ballon d’Or,” Lothar said (Bild via @iMiaSanMia). “To win individual awards, you simply have to win titles with your team. I won the Ballon d’Or in 1990 because we played well at Inter and won the World Cup with the German national team. You can play as outstandingly as you like individually and score lots of goals - but if you don’t win anything with your team, you still have little chance of winning such awards. Japanese Women’s team coach Norio Sasaki Photo credit should read FRANCK FIFE/AFP via Getty Images The 63-year-old proceeded to say that the club must be successful again if Musiala was to win the Ballon d’Or, which means the “Mia San Mia” feeling must grow and singled out the management which had been in shambles for a while. That said, Matthäus knows that Musiala has what it takes to become a Ballon d’Or winner but is implying that the 21-year-old former Chelsea FC academy product is better off winning it elsewhere.“it’s logical and right that he aims to win the Ballon d’Or. And of course, he will think about where he can best achieve that with his environment. Before deciding whether to extend his contract with Bayern, which expires in 2026, he will take a close look at how the club is developing in sporting terms after things have been anything but optimal recently. The club and the player must take such rankings as the Ballon d’Or as an incentive to attack again next season. I’m sure that Jamal will grow from this.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the current state of Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany? Germany v Hungary -UEFA Nations league Photo by Geert van Erven/Soccrates/Getty Images I mean, you couldn’t really argue this with how good he was in the 5-0 thrashing. There were absolutely no signs of a hangover from the EURO 2024 heartbreak for Germany in their UEFA Nations League match against Hungary in Düsseldorf, as Julian Nagelsmann’s side put forth a statement-setting performance, winning 5-0. It was the biggest win recorded for Germany since Nagelsmann has taken charge as manager and was their biggest win since their 9-0 win over Lichtenstein back in the fall of 2021 in a World Cup qualifier ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. What was especially refreshing for Nagelsmann was the fact that there were five different goal scorers on the night; Niclas Füllkrug, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Aleksandar Pavlović, and Kai Havertz (penalty). It was a complete performance from Germany, particularly in the second half, as they probably should have gone into the halftime break up more than 1-0 with the amount of credible chances they had. They were far more clinical in the final third with their finishing in the second half and it seemed as if Hungary were a bit too shellshocked by a certain point to be able to register a proper response.Bayern Munich’s Musiala was officially named man of the match for his performance, as he was once again the star of the show for Germany. He picked up right where he left off, having scored against Hungary in the meeting between the two sides at the Euros, which Germany won 2-0 in Stuttgart. In Düsseldorf, Musiala boasted a tally of one goal, three assists, seven key passes, four tackles, and two successful dribbles, which is even a bit of a low number for him. After the match, Musiala was asked whether or not that was his best ever performance for Germany, even though it came in the Nations League as opposed to a major international tournament or tournament qualifier. “It might be, even if I feel my overall game could have been better. It’s good to bulk the stats up but what was important was that we won the game and now we can look forward to the game on Tuesday,” he replied when he was asked the burning question (via @iMiaSanMia). Germany v Hungary - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Boris Streubel/Getty Images For Musiala, he is no stranger to collecting man of the match awards for both club and country, but even if he does feel the Hungary match was his best ever for Germany, he certainly will not slow down. He has shown a drive of consistent hunger to improve and win, so it should come as no surprise that there will certainly be matches where he plays even better for his country. Spain v Germany: Quarter-Final - UEFA EURO 2024 Photo by Masashi Hara/Getty Images Leave him be, Lothar Bayern Munich have a thing called the “team council” which comprises the senior players and the leaders of the team, and the German national football team has that too. Julian Nagelsmann opted to exclude Jamal Musiala for now, but Lothar Matthäus was having none of it.“It’s totally fine for me that I’m not part of the team council,” Musiala assured (Welt am Sonntag via @iMiaSanMia). “We players are very open with each other and with the coaching staff. Whenever I want to say my opinion or it’s asked for, I say it. I don’t have to be on the team council for that. I can be a leader anyway. I’ve known Julian for a while, we respect each other a lot.”The team council (according to the Bundesliga’s official website) is comprised of the following players: captain Joshua Kimmich, vice-captains Antonio Rüdiger and Kai Havertz, Marc-André ter Stegen, Niclas Füllkrug, Pascal Groß, and Jonathan Tah.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the current state of Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany? Germany v Hungary -UEFA Nations league Photo by Geert van Erven/Soccrates/Getty Images Naglesmann starts Füllkrug, Füllkrug scores a game winner. Germany opened the Nations League group stage with a resounding 5-0 win over Hungary. West Ham forward Niclas Füllkrug opened the scoring in the 27th minute on an assist from Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala. In his first competitive start for the national team, Füllkrug registered two more shots on his limited 21 touches. In his postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Füllkrug said, “I think fans don’t realise how important the Nations League is for us. We’re playing against tough opponents. We took the euphoria of the Euros to this game, I’m proud of the team. We had many deep runs forward, Kai, Jamal, Flo, myself, it was tough for the opponent to read. We created so many chances.”It’s refreshing to hear a player speak highly of the Nations League, especially a 31-year-old veteran like Füllkrug. Hopefully, Germany can carry the momentum into the Tuesday clash with the Netherlands.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Germany’s 5-0 destruction of Hungary? France v Italy - UEFA Nations League 2024/2025 League A - Group 2 Olise’s monumental rise is hard to miss. | Photo by Matteo Ciambelli/DeFodi Images via Getty Images The forward believes his french compatriot will elevate Les Bleus’ offense. The French National team is stacked with talent, especially in offense. With the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembélé, Marcus Thuram, Kolo Muani and Bayern Munich’s own Kingsley Coman competing for just 3 spots, the onus will be on the players to show up consistently to get called up for major tournaments.Bayern winger Michael Olise has his work cut out for him. However, Antoine Griezmann, France’s griezzled veteran forward is of the opinion that Olise’s star will shine brightly for Les Bleus. Speaking to @telefoot_TF1 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Griezmann lauded Olise’s on-ball ability and versatility as a forward.Antoine Griezmann on Michael Olise: "Every time he touches the ball, he brings something offensively. He's a player who can play on the right and centrally. He will do our team a lot of good" [@telefoot_TF1] pic.twitter.com/9t1gJsg5nz— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) September 8, 2024This bodes really well for Bayern Munich’s forward lineup this season, given versatile forwards are always a huge asset to have, especially if they can finish chances with aplomb AND set their compatriots up. In 19 appearances in the 2023/24 Premier League season, Olise notched an incredible 10 goals and 6 assists. For Crystal Palace. Now put the same player around Jamal Musiala, Thomas Müller, and Harry Kane. And hopefully even Paul Wanner next season. The player is bound to receive space and great looks. What he does with that is indeed up to him.Bayern Munich fans may be in for a treat.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Germany’s 5-0 destruction of Hungary? Federico Dimarco (L) of FC Internazionale fouls Thomas... Photo by Nicolò Campo/LightRocket via Getty Images There are better options out there, look no further than their cross-town rivals Alphonso Davies seems to be set on leaving Bayern Munich when his deal expires next year. What was once a surefire extension has now been in limbo for the past few years and with Real Madrid lurking in the shadows, the Rekordmeister is in a tough position. That got them looking at alternatives, one of which was Federico Dimarco from Inter Milan:Federico Dimarco was one of the names discussed internally at Bayern as a potential replacement for Alphonso Davies in the beginning of the summer. Bayern had three names on the list and Dimarco was one of them. But then Davies ended up staying at the club and Dimarco never considered leaving Inter this summer.– Fabrizio Romano as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaIf Bayern is still looking at left-backs, go to the red side of Milan and bring in Theo Hernandez instead. Or maybe the club shouldn’t have sold Noussair Mazraoui.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Germany’s 5-0 destruction of Hungary? Germany v Hungary - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Marvin Ibo Guengoer - GES Sportfoto/Getty Images The Bayern Munich kid had a day... Bayern Munich prized youngster Aleksandar Pavlović came on as a sub for Germany in the 60th minute of the squad’s 5-0 rout of Hungary. Needless to say, the 20-year-old made a serious impact on the match as he scored a goal, completed 35 of 35 passes (97%), and only lost possession two times. It was a ruthlessly efficient performance from the midfielder — and his national team head coach noticed.“Pavlo played a great game. He was very dominant right away after he came on. He embodies a lot of what I want in the No. 6 position and is also a cool guy, funny and wants to win. I really, really like that,” Nagelsmann remarked (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). For now, Pavlović is behind Pascal Groß and Robert Andrich in the pecking order, but that could all change if the Bayern Munich phenom can continue his rapid development. Will he be able to secure a starting role for the 2026 World Cup?Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Germany’s 5-0 destruction of Hungary? Germany v Hungary -UEFA Nations league Photo by Geert van Erven/Soccrates/Getty Images Back with a bang. Germany blasted Hungary 5-0 to kick off their Nations League campaign, hitting the ground running after a positive EURO 2024 summer. Quick hitters:What is this Germany team?! Energy, desire, ruthlessness. Hungary is no slouch as the history between these two teams shows. Is the Niclas Füllkrug experiment finally underway? The former Borussia Dortmund man never got a real look as Germany’s starting striker including at EURO 2024. Despite not breaking into West Ham’s lineup this year — while Kai Havertz has started at the No. 9 for Arsenal FC — it was Füllkrug who led the way today, with Havertz at the No. 10.Also catching the eye: bench appearances for youngsters in midfield and attack. Germany Training And Press Conference Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Age before beauty. After the devastating quarterfinal loss to Spain in EURO 2024, Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann was tasked with replacing the leadership quartet of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, Toni Kroos, and İlkay Gündoğan. Ahead of the Nations League clash with Hungary, Nagelsmann named Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich as captain, along with Antonio Rüdiger and Kai Havertz as vice captains. The new leadership group led Germany to a 5-0 victory over Hungary. Bayern’s Jamal Musiala was the star of the show with a goal, three assists, and several displays of spectacular dribbling and ball movement.According to a report from Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Germany’s new hierarchy has been revealed. The new hierarchy of the German national team following the retirement of Neuer, Müller, Kroos and Gündoğan [ @BILD] pic.twitter.com/0ql1ImdkpR— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) September 7, 2024A few anomalies you might notice in the graphic — or informational that might differ from the previous report:Antonio Rüdiger, like third captain Kai Havertz, was not supposed to sit on the leadership council as something intentional that Nagelsmann wanted to do. So, there is a question about where exactly those two fall. Musiala’s picture appears over the name of Kai Havertz (Arsenal FC fans can only hope, right?)As expected, Nagelsmann has rewarded seniority and the defensive core with higher positions. This will help alleviate some of the external pressure placed on the rising stars like Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlović and Florian Wirtz.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Germany’s 5-0 destruction of Hungary? Spain v Germany: Quarter-Final - UEFA EURO 2024 Photo by Marvin Ibo Guengoer - GES Sportfoto/Getty Images Germany’s young stars were incredible... Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz were spectacular during the German national team’s 5-0 throttling of Hungary.Head coach Julian Nagelsmann had a front row seat to the action and was thoroughly impressed. “Jamal has already undergone a great transformation in the past year in terms of his presence in the box, he’s become exceptionally good at that. Before the Euros, it was a small point of criticism about this exceptional player that he doesn’t get into the box enough. During the tournament it was very good, today it was phenomenal,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Nagelsmann also told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) that both Musiala and Wirtz have something special about them.“Both have the potential to win the Ballon d’Or,” said Nagelsmann. Finally, the coach wanted to throw some credit over to Arsenal FC’s Kai Havertz as well. “Kai has made a big leap forward in the past two years. He has the potential to be world class in many positions. He runs a lot and has become very clever,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Sometimes he’s a bit unlucky when it comes to finishing. The vice captaincy is good for him. He’s a smart person, very reflective, very modest. I hope he continues to believe in himself.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Germany’s 5-0 destruction of Hungary?
