FC Bayern München v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images “You would bet your house in him scoring that!” Bayern Munich’s penalty takers usually bury the ball home when given a spot-kick. For the past two seasons, Harry Kane has been the one who takes a Bayern peno; same goes for England when they get a penalty. The 31-year-old is so lethal from the spot that he’s the best penalty taker among the continent’s top scorers, converting every single one he has taken since last year:Since the beginning of 2023, Harry Kane has converted 21 of 21 penalties for club and country (13 of 13 for Bayern). This makes him currently the best penalty taker among Europe’s top scorers. Robert Lewandowski also has a 100% rate but has only taken 10 penalties in the same period.– Bild as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaThis season, Kane famously did the “stutter-step” penalty which is a technique that Lewandowski popularized. The trick is used to see which way the goalkeeper is going to dive to, and just simply go the other way.

Real Madrid v Chelsea - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC via Getty Images Thankfully...it’s the weekend and one more day closer to Bayern Munich vs. Werder Bremen. Bayern could make play for Mudryk (CaughtOffside)Bayern Munich has been linked to Chelsea FC attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk several times in the past, but now — given the London team’s laughably big squad — there could be an opportunity for the Bavarians to grab a player on a bargain deal (depending on how much Chelsea wants to unload the Ukrainian): Bayern Munich have been mentioned alongside Marseille in pursuit of Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.Despite being with the Blues for nearly two years, the Ukraine international has failed to live up to his £88.5 million price tag.Starting just 19 Premier League games since the beginning of last season, Mudryk, despite the club going through several managers in the same period, has fallen down Chelsea’s pecking order. The Blues’ recent capture of Jadon Sancho has forced the 23-year-old even further out of favour, and now, according to a recent report from Fichajes, could leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.Roberto De Zerbi; a manager who has previously spoken highly of the Ukraine winger, is interested in bringing him to Marseille. However, Bayern Munich are also credited with having an interest. The Bavarians recently signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace but also have Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman among their options, so finding a place for Mudryk would be difficult. This is not the first time that Bayern Munich has been linked to Mudryk and Chelsea does — desperately — need to sell some players. Could the Bavarians be lined up to try and get a value buy in January or next summer by plucking Mudryk out of London?LFC could be major player for Musiala (Football365)Liverpool FC is one of the club’s who could be seeking to steal Jamal Musiala away from Bayern Munich: A report from Football Insider also claims Liverpool are considering a move to sign Bayern Munich star Musiala.Manchester City are in ‘pole position’ to sign Musiala as they look to replace Kevin De Bruyne, who has entered the final year of his contract and is being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.Despite this, Liverpool are ‘in the race’ for Musiala. The report says.Musiala’s contract situation is going to be one of those most interesting storylines to follow in the coming months. FC Bayern Munich - Dinamo Zagreb Photo by Peter Kneffel/picture alliance via Getty Images The Zagreb match might not have been close, but on different occasions, penalties can be the difference between max points or non at all. For the most part in Bayern Munich’s 9-2 thrashing of Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, it was one way traffic, but the Croatian side did have their bright spell when they scored two goals in as many minutes to start the second. The pair of goals proved to be nothing more than a small consolation, but Bayern’s dominance was also aided by having been given a trio of penalties, all of which were calmly converted by Harry Kane. The penalties comprised three of the four goals he scored on the night to take him over Wayne Rooney’s mark of 30 Champions League goals to become the highest ever English scorer in the competition. The concession of penalties was the least of Zagreb’s worries on the night, but giving away three certainly did not do them any favors in trying to keep the match closer to give themselves a better chance of getting something out of it. Bayern could have very easily scored more than nine goals. After the match and getting his man of the match award from UEFA, Kane spoke to the press and mentioned how penalties can be massive difference makers in any given match and that they should never be overlooked. “People sometimes take penalties for granted, but they can be a really important part of the game when the game’s tied and can be the difference in big games,” the England skipper explained (via @iMiaSanMia). GERMANY-MUNICH-FOOTBALL-UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-BAYERN MUNICH VS GNK DINAMO Photo by Philippe Ruiz/Xinhua via Getty Images Personally, Kane has already netted a total of five penalties across all competitions for Bayern this season, and he is likely to add a handful more to that tally as the season progresses. Back in the summer, he also scored a crucial penalty in England’s semifinal, 2-1 win over the Netherlands at the EUROs to help them go on to the final, where they eventually lost to Spain in Berlin. Since he has joined Bayern from Tottenham last summer, he has now scored a total of 13 penalties for the Rekordmeister, and he admitted that, even as a regular penalty-taker, he was not used to taken three in one match. “I practice my penalties a lot, I have the same routine, but even for me it was strange to take three in one game. It was the first time I’ve done that but I just had to do what I always do. I’ve changed my process a bit. Some of them I’ll decide in the moment, some of them I’ll decide the day before the game. Sometimes I now wait for the goalkeeper to take a step because then becomes harder for him to make a save,” he explained (Bundesliga). FC Bayern München v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images There’s a difference between Tel and Goretzka Mathys Tel is one of Bayern Munich’s key players, despite playing a limited role to help him develop properly. He has made it clear that it will not be an issue for him and will be ready when the club needs him, and that kind of drive is what sporting director Christoph Freund sees in the 19-year-old Frenchman. “Yes, of course. Mathys brings a lot to the table. He’s fighting for playing time. But given the competitive situation, that’s not so easy. He will make his way. I’m sure of that,” Freund said (Sky Sports Germany as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia).Mathys has always been a fighter; a young player who is hungry to prove himself instead of griping about his situation is rare, and to think Bayern nearly let him go to Tottenham Hotspur as part of the Harry Kane sweepstakes. Several clubs also went after Tel but were immediately greeted by a big “NO.”

FC Bayern Muenchen v SV Werder Bremen - Bundesliga Photo by Alexandra Beier/Bongarts/Getty Images This. This is beautiful... When one arrives at Werner-Heisenberg-Allee 25D-80939 München, one arrives at the stadium of Bayern Munich, the Allianz Arena. The white stadium dwarfs anything in the surrounding area, perpetuating an aura of pristine quality. But the stadium is not defined by superficial quality, either. There is no better demonstration of this than the recent ratification of Bayern’s request to change the name of the address of the Allianz Arena. @iMiaSanMia captures what will shortly be its new name: The city of Munich has approved renaming the address of the Allianz Arena and the area in front of the stadium ‘Franz-Beckenbauer-Platz 5’, in tribute to the late Franz Beckenbauer.“He’s one of the greatest athletes our city has ever produced,” said Munich’s mayor Dieter Reiter. It is a welcome tribute to not just one of the most defining footballers of his generation but of all time, who tragically passed away in January of 2024. FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images It’s not really that big of a talking point, is it? Joshua Kimmich has played in the heart of Bayern Munich’s midfield, making the switch from right-back, for the past 4-5 years. In the twilight of Thomas Tuchel’s era, Kimmich was “bullied” into playing in his old position. The 29-year-old also primarily plays in this position for the German national football team, and Bayern coach Vincent Kompany doesn’t want to make a lot of fuss over it.“What happens with the national team has no influence on my work,” Kompany said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “One of his strengths is that he can play several positions, even within one game. That’s why it’s not a problem, but a solution, and he himself said that it doesn’t bother him”.If Kimmich has already reiterated several times that he doesn’t mind where he’s being played, there’s really no point in bringing up this discussion a lot. Props to Kompany for being direct with his answer and shutting down these frankly pointless and repetitive topics.

Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Javi Martinez replacement in the bag A fundamental aspect of Bayern Munich’s game is having a defensive minded midfielder in the pivot, while the other one can roam around the pitch and play a more advanced role. Many players have come and gone through Bayern’s doors but neither of them came close to being the Javi Martinez replacement that the Bavarians sorely missed. Enter João Palhinha.“He has now made his step. João comes from the Premier League, a different league,” Max Eberl said (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “You have to take that into account. He needed time to adapt to everything - to how Vinnie wants to play. New club, new city, new language, coach, team, everything new. It just takes time.“We defend very high, man against man,” Eberl continued. “So, when the opponent plays a long ball and it becomes a 1v1 duel, you need a number 6 who has the defensive mindset, who switches back immediately and helps the defender - and that’s João.”

FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images He still won’t take a hint… Leon Goretzka has basically seen any chance of him being a starting player at Bayern Munich disappear upon the arrival of Vincent Kompany, and he still wouldn’t leave despite the club openly telling him that he ought to find another club. Manuel Neuer and Vincent Kompany were asked about this after the Holstein Kiel game (where Leon was left out of the matchday squad) and these were the answers they gave (both captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia)Manuel NeuerNeuer’s answer basically tells us that every single one of his teammates believe that he will eventually get his chance:We players feel for him too. He has always been an important factor for us. I believe in him, he’s extremely motivated, you can see that in every training session. I’m convinced that his time will come.Vincent KompanyThe coach on the other hand said that the team has enough players to travel to northern Germany. We had 21 fit players for the Kiel game. If someone else was not in the squad, you would’ve asked about him too. We had to leave a player at home and it was Leon. Sacha Boey is now out [this was before the Champions League game against Dinamo Zagreb], so we have 20 players and that question doesn’t arise. Before the game, the focus is fully on the game. We need positive energy. To be fair to Kompany, it’s not like Goretzka was needed against Kiel who are rock bottom at time of writing. These journos also need to stop asking about Goretzka every time because Kompany is bound to give the same answer.Whose side are you on? Do you share either one of these sentiments? Let us know in the comments!

Records were surely broken during that massive win, and that’s what we have today.Thierry Henry knows ballA couple months ago, Arsenal FC and France legend Thierry Henry managed Bayern’s new signing Michael Olise with the French junior squad and famously quipped that “you haven’t seen anything yet” with regards to Olise’s potential. FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Can we have Didi jinx our players? Didi Hamann recently criticized Jamal Musiala’s playing style during the international break and was not well received; everyone can see the quality that the player has and for someone to go out and say that would make him seem like a lunatic. For Bayern Munich’s director of sport Max Eberl, he has a unique view of the situation. On the Musiala criticism by Hamann: Jamal speaks for himself; his quality speaks for itself. I think there’s no disagreement about that in Germany. I see it as a good omen because Didi Hamann said in 2019 that Robert Lewandowski will be a problem for Bayern - and one year later Lewandowski won everything.– SPORT1-Doppelpass as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaMaybe Didi can target Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano next so they’ll become a rock solid partnership in defence. It looks like “Bayern-Dusel“ has evolved into reverse jinxes.

FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-KIEL-BAYERN MUNICH Photo by AXEL HEIMKEN/AFP via Getty Images Oh no, it’s another whiteboard piece. Note: This article was conceptualised before Bayern Munich’s sensational 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb. The tactical ideas presented here were already concrete in the author’s mind prior to the game, but there may be a minor subconscious influence on the writing after the game.I’d always wondered why the Gideons provide a Bible in hotels...Bayern Munich under Vincent Kompany have shown a proclivity for tactical changes every game, with Kompany making adjustments to the structure in every game — particularly in the early phases of build-up — to account for the opposition’s shape. However, it remains to be seen if this approach will work against teams later in the season when they are more settled into their general systems and will begin to strategise more specifically against Kompany’s own tendencies.Until I realised the loneliness of life’s a business in itself.A consistent structure is crucial to having success over the course of an entire season, and while it’s unlikely or even possible that Kompany will use such a system, it’s still a good thought exercise to construct a system that could viably be used.So you sing your drunken hymns, you let it out to let it in.Do you feel God, or just the air from the machine? Splitting the personnel into their position groups Holstein Kiel v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images The television is watching me.The positional groups are quite simple. By dividing the squad into specific roles, we have consistent structures and the ability to immediately replace an unavailable player seamlessly. Due to the versatility in the squad, if a position is underloaded, there are always several players who can inhabit that role too.() = indicates player is not planned for this position primarily but can fill in if requiredGoalkeepers - Manuel Neuer, Daniel Peretz, Sven Ulreich

We begin with the out-of-possession shape, more specifically the pressing plans. Media The first pressing shape, in three phases. This first shape is what the team inhabits against opposition that like to build-up with a 2-3 structure, which is to say, two outfield players as the first line with a line of three just ahead of them (in this case, two centre-backs, a single midfielder dropped deep and the full-backs).When the goalkeeper has the ball, the team will hold a man-to-man press in midfield and defense to prevent a long ball. In this case, the opposition’s right-sided midfielder is advanced, meaning Kim will step up to mark him while Palhinha joins the first line of pressure. If this were to happen on the other side, Upamecano and Musiala would step up instead. With Kane (or Müller if the sides were mirrored) marking the pivot, the goalkeeper’s only safe option is to play it to the centre-backs. This is when the second part of the press is triggered, where Palhinha (or Musiala, you get the drill by now) presses the centre-back while, very…
