SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images “25 shots taken, 0 shots allowed” is a recipe for success. Bayern Munich defeated Werder Bremen 5-0, earning a third consecutive road win to kick off Vincent Kompany’s reign as the club’s manager. Bremen came into the match on its own undefeated streak, but Bayern quickly turned the match into a one-sided affair.Michael Olise opened the scoring in the 23rd minute while Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry also found the back of the net. Olise added another goal in the 60th minute, recording his second brace of the week.Bayern dominated possession (70%), and scored five goals with only seven shots on target. Despite the 20 goals in the past three games, Musiala seemed most pleased with finally earning a clean sheet. In his postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Musiala said, “Our attack is currently very good. Our pressing, everything off the ball we’re doing well. It was important to keep a clean sheet, which we haven’t always done recently. We have a lot of quality upfront, stability in midfield, we’re enjoying our football at the moment. We’ll have tough games coming up. Same plan against Leverkusen? I don’t know what the coach is planning. But I don’t expect much to change.”After the tumultuous season under Thomas Tuchel, Kompany has the squad flying high in every match. Next weekend, Bayern heads into a showdown at the Allianz Arena with reigning league champions, Bayer Leverkusen. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Bayern Munich did it again! Die Folgen: Bayern’s 5-0 win over Bremen (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich continued its torrid run of play by hammering Werder Bremen 5-0 on the road. Vincent Kompany has a great feel for the team at the moment and the players are responding to his coaching and strategy. The players are also performing like the world class group that they are — which we have not always seen in recent seasons. Let’s take a look at some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting lineup: STARTING XI
Today's squad to take on Bremen! #SVWFCB pic.twitter.com/i5Yf4MLTsu— FC Bayern US (@FCBayernUS) September 21, 2024There was not much a difference in personnel for this match. Kingsley Coman got a surprise nod, which we can assume is to help market himself for a move in January. Meanwhile, Konrad Laimer stepped in for Raphaël Guerreiro. Otherwise, everything else was pretty much expected. While Manuel Neuer was announced the starter, Sven Ulreich actually got the call. Neuer must not have felt 100% and there was no reason to risk it. In the 23rd minute, Bayern Munich broke through by taking advantage of a Werder Bremen turnover. Harry Kane poked the ball to a streaking Michael Olise, who put the Bavarians on the scoreboard. It was going to be an Olise kind of day because nine minute later — after a run of dominant play from Bayern Munich — the winger jabbed a ball to Jamal Musiala, who was waiting patiently in front of the net to make it 2-0. Olise could present a numbers problem at some point for Bayern Munich. Serge Gnabry is content to be a team player and likely will not cause an issue if he is in a rotation. Coman seems like he is playing to help make a move in January, but Leroy Sané is one to watch. The former Manchester City man does not like sitting out or not starting. It was very clear, Werder Bremen was overmatched. Bayern Munich just looks like a machine at the moment. We know this cannot go on forever, but it is definitely a lot of fun to watch for now. Early in the second half, Bayern Munich did lose some focus and get sloppy. It could have been fatigue or just an inability to adjust a ramped up energy level from Werder Bremen. Either way, the home side put together some nice possessions. Dayot Upamecano had a spectacular (but probably dangerous) clearance in the 54th minute, which showed he still has that in him. Terrific play from the Frenchman. Later in the second half, though, Upamecano took a sloppy, unnecessary foul, which did not hurt in a game like this, but could prove costly later in the season. He might be the living, breathing example of the Facts of Life theme song, “You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have, the facts of life.” Overall, Upamecano was good and Bayern Munich will take that. Noticing the downturn, Kompany brought on Gnabry and Guerreiro for Coman and Laimer. Neither player looked thrilled with the ealy sub. Immediately, though, Bayern Munich scored. This time, some combination work in the final third resulted in Olise setting up Kane. Both players are on an absolute heater!Somehow, Olise was not done there. Three minutes after setting up Kane, Olise hopped on a loose ball that was tackled away form Gnabry in front of the net and scored. Just like that, Bayern Munich was up 4-0 and Olise established himself as a cult hero. In the 65th minute (just five minutes after Olise’s goal), Kane sent a ball out wide to Gnabry, who did a subtle cut in and ripped a low shot to the far corner to make it 5-0. What an insanely good eight minute stretch. The response to Kompany’s substitutions was incredible. Gnabry and Guerreiro made an instant impact and brought energy. Overall, Bayern Munich was an absolute machine in crushing the soul of Werder Bremen. It was just a thoroughly dominating performance. What else can you say? It was a masterful showing. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images I’m back, by the way. Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Werder Bremen had quite a few talking points, including Michael Olise’s one man show, the easiest paycheck in Sven Ulreich’s career, and so on. However, there was one eye-catching point that had been evident for over a month now - the absence of Bayern’s home kit.Although lack of information causes this writer to base this on theory alone, this is likely to be the first ever time that Bayern have not worn their home kit once in the first four games of the Bundesliga season. What’s more, that number will soon change to five come next weekend, with the Bavarians set to suit up in their new one-off Oktoberfest kit against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Even in other competitions, the home kit is rather scarce. Bayern wore their third kit in the Champions League opener against GNK Dinamo, while the next two away games against Aston Villa and Barcelona are also highly likely not to feature the home kit. In fact, the only time that Bayern have suited up in red so far this season was against Ulm in the DFB-Pokal. Bayern have not worn the home kit in the entire month of September. In the meantime, the black and bronze away kit has been prominently featured, while the beige third kit has also been worn twice already. It remains to be seen whether Bayern will wear the third kit, which by designation is the “Champions League kit,” in their other Champions League home matches.Judging from the current schedule, it seems as Bayern will not wear the home kit until their away trip to Eintracht Frankfurt in two weeks. However, considering Frankfurt’s home kit is a combination of all of Bayern’s current kit colors - white, black, and red - this is also a question mark. At the latest, Bayern will most likely wear the home kit in their home match against VfB Stuttgart in the following week.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Michael Olise picks up the ball after firing it into the back of the net for Bayern’s first goal against SV Werder Bremen at Weserstadion. | Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Here’s to the start of Oktoberfest and Olise’s man of the match performance. Oans, zwoa, drei, g’suffa! To say Michael Olise has hit the ground running at Bayern Munich would be an understatement. He’s smashed the ground and jet off at the speed of sound may be more appropriate, especially after his man of the match performance against Werder Bremen. The 22-year-old has already picked up five goals and three assists in six competitive matches so far for Bayern this season. To put that into context, Olise is averaging 1,33 goal contributions per game. Scary form. The former Crystal Palace man has not only done well to impress Bayern fans, but has certainly left an impression on head coach, Vincent Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia).“He’s a special talent. It’s a luxury at Bayern to have so many good players. Michael did very well. His start at FC Bayern couldn’t be much better. He has to keep going this way. I haven’t got the feeling that he’s a player who feels much pressure. He just enjoys football,” said Kompany. Olise’s start to the season feels reminiscent of Leroy Sané’s start to last season, at some points the German was even being labelled “the best player in the world”. Now let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Last season, Leroy Sané just happened to be in a rich vein of form. The same may just be true for Olise. However, if he continues in this vein of form for the rest of the season, he will be well on his way to becoming, at the very least, one of the best players in the world. The true litmus test for Michael Olise and Vincent Kompany will come next weekend as Bayern Munich take on defending Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen, at the Allianz Arena.Form player or no form player, Bayern fans best enjoy Olise’s positive start to the season and believe there is much more to come.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? The German record champions are back. Are the defending title holders ready?Next Saturday, we will find out when Bayern Munich plays host to Bayer Leverkusen in the most anticipated match of the Bundesliga Hinrunde. And the Bavarians look like a team on a mission. Bayern continued its run of dominating results with a 5-0 league win over Werder Bremen this Saturday, Vincent Kompany’s men firing on all cylinders in attack and defense. Can Bayern keep up the tempo against much stronger opposition? Star striker Harry Kane doesn’t see why not.“We’re Bayern and we don’t change our game for the opponent,” the England captain declared after the match (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Of course it’s a difficult test, Leverkusen have been doing really well but we’ll go with the same mentality and attitude. Home game during Oktoberfest, it should be a great game.”This is a matchup you will not want to miss. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images He’ll come around eventually One pattern that fans might notice about Michael Olise is that he rarely gives interviews and is straight to the point when he does. Even after an MotM performance against Werder Bremen won’t break that cycle and Jamal Musiala witnessed this firsthand:Michael Olise doesn’t want to give an interview. But Jamal Musiala encourages him, stands in front of the camera with him and in the end gives the answers for Olise. The Frenchman doesn’t say a word. Then Musiala jokes: That’s the start, Michael.— Bild journo Michael Schroeer as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images While Olise’s postgame antics leave a lot to be desired, Musiala praised him nonetheless and how they link up with each other when playing on the pitch. “He’s a great player. We understand each other very well, we talk a lot. The more games we play together, the more chemistry we’ll have. He’s got a lot of quality.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Nothing stops this train... SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Unstoppable machine... Bayern Munich recorded their fourth straight win in the league and will maintain their position atop the Bundesliga table as they saw off Werder Bremen thanks to another 5 goals, this time courtesy of Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Micheal Olise, and Serge Gnabry. Here are some players that stood out:Jersey Swap: Niklas StarkYes, despite the abysmal defensive performance from Bremen tonight, a defender (Stark) gets this honor. Stark was far better than his fellow defenders and had a solid game. Also, Bremen failed to register a single shot, so it is only fair that the defenders who actually did have something to do get the award. Der Kaiser: Konrad LaimerMaybe this is cheating, but Laimer started at right-back and had a fantastic performance higher up the pitch, overlapping very well with Joshua Kimmich and establishing a strong partnership with Micheal Olise. Laimer was everywhere the action was and started really strong, so he wins this award — despite not really functioning as a defender.Fußballgott: Joshua KimmichAleksandar Pavlović had a good game and some brilliant distribution, but Kimmich was on another level tonight. He started slow, playing pretty much as a right back, and was seen even behind Laimer often in the first half while occasionally drifting inwards and forward during key stages of buildup. But the second half saw a change as Kimmich became more involved in the attack and played an all-around fantastic half. Kimmich showed once again his tendency to play on the right side of the pitch can be a great tool for Kompany in this system, especially when paired with another right-back who allows him to move into the center exactly when he needs to. More of this please, Josh! Der Bomber: Harry KaneThis was a tough choice between Musiala, Kane, and Gnabry, especially given the latter’s instant impact after coming on as a substitute. However, Kane takes this one away thanks to his two assists and a single goal, a tally that could certainly have been far higher. Kane is meant to thrive in this set-up, which allows him to drift around and take a creative role while also being close enough to jump right in when needed, which is exactly what he did to score Bayern’s third.Kane continues to show why he should be given the freedom to create as well as score, making it 4 assists and 5 goals in 4 games for the English superstar.Man of the Match: Michael OliseWho else? Great game awareness and a quick run gave Olise his first goal, an outstanding dribble into the box, and a quick cross set up Musiala for Bayern’s second. But he was far from done as a beautiful cutback and pass back to Kane allowed for Bayern’s third and a one-two with Gnabry saw him score a brace and make it four. Olise showed how every aspect of his game is a different class, a league above the rest. After far too long, Bayern have found their voice on the wings again. Fans will want much more of this because it is impossible ever to get tired of watching someone like him play football. That’s all the awards for today — what did you think of the game? See you again next time for a nail-biting clash against the reigning Deutsche Fußballmeister, Bayer Leverkusen. Better save some goals for next week!

FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Kompany is relishing the chance to take part of something with such cultural and historical significance to Bavaria. O’zapft is! Oktoberfest season is in full swing as of Saturday September 21st in what is well and truly one of the best times of the year on the Bavarian calendar. Bayern Munich’s annual team visit to the Paulaner wiesn in Theresienwiese takes place on the 22nd, which comes after the Bundesliga match at Werder Bremen. Win, draw, or lose, Bayern’s traditional visit to the wiesn during the Oktoberfest season dates back decades along with their traditional lederhosen Paulaner photoshoot - the same style of clothing the players and staff wear to the wiesn visit. The visit is always made that much better on the back end of a win in the Bundesliga for Bayern, but it takes place either way. There have certainly been visits after disappointing results, but for Vincent Kompany, he’ll be hoping the mood will be a bit like it was last season around the same time. The team had their visit on the backend of beating Manchester United 4-3 in the Champions League midweek and then thrashing VfL Bochum 7-0 in the Bundesliga - two massive wins capped off with good bier, goo company, and incredible local fare. Looking ahead to the traditional Bavarian weekend, Kompany is very much looking forward to the opportunity to take part in something that holds so much historical and cultural value to Bavaria, but he will not, for one second, be looking past Werder Bremen. “We want to experience the culture as a family. Oktoberfest is very important, not just for the people from Munich. We are looking forward to it, but in the next 24 hours it’s all about Werder. On Sunday I’m looking forward to going to Oktoberfest with the family and FC Bayern,” the Belgian manager explained in the press conference ahead of the Breme clash (via @iMiaSanMia). After the visit, they will have just under a week to prepare for next weekend’s massive Bundesliga clash against reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen. Between now and the middle of October, it will be one of the few instances where Bayern does not have an English week on either side of the next international break. Paulaner lederhosen shoot at FC Bayern Photo by Lennart Preiss/picture alliance via Getty Images Have one on us, boss. There are many great things about managing at Bayern Munich (and maybe some not so great things as well depending on who you ask), but one of the best is the club’s close connection to the Oktoberfest festivities in the city. New boss Vincent Kompany will get a taste of the action today. “First of all it was important that we won (against Werder Bremen on Saturday). The boys can be happy. (Oktoberfest) is tradition. We have to respect tradition. We’re all going there. We have to have fun and then from Monday it will only be about Leverkusen and the preparation for the game,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Ah yes, that pesky match against Bayer Leverkusen. Do you think fans will be amped up for that one?Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Vincent Kompany being vocal on the sidelines as he shouts instructions to his players in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash against SV Werder Bremen at Weserstadion. | Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Vincent Kompany may just be cooking something special at Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich put in yet another magnificent display, smashing Werder Bremen 5-0 at their home stadium. Having scored six and nine goals against Holstein Kiel and Dinamo Zagreb in the last two games respectively, the Bavarians are now averaging just under seven goals a game. An attack that could make any defence shake in their boots.Against Werder Bremen, however, it was not just the attack that shone. The defence put in a quality shift too, ensuring Die Grün-Weißen would en d the game with a grand total of 0.00 xG. When asked about the dominant display, Bayern coach, Vincent Kompany, was quick to shower the entire team with praise (according to @iMiaSanMia).“I’m humble enough as a coach to give credit to the players. I was in a position last season [at Burnley] where we played against teams with much better players, clubs much wealthier. If top players run and fight for each other then that’s a big part of the job. There’s of course an idea behind everything we do. But this [0.00 xG] was possible because the guy who scored two goals [Olise] was running for his teammates. It was because the guy who scored 11 or 12 goals this season [Kane] was running for the team. Coman, Gnabry, Sané, everyone was running for the team. We do it together. I’m realistic enough to give the credit to the players and they deserve it today,” said Kompany. A culture of hard running and teamwork? Now this feels like the Bayern Munich of old. Overall, Kompany was happy with the result and relieved that his side was able to brush off the pressure of winning.“I’m very happy. It was important to prepare well for this tricky game. The boys did really well. For us the pressure is always there to win and play well. When it works out like today, it’s good for us. The atmosphere was great. It was simply a good game for us,” Kompany noted. Full respect to Bayern’s opponents thus far, but Vincent Kompany has yet to encounter stiff competition this season. Therefore, it may be too early to label the Belgian coach a success. The next five matchdays will be telling for Kompany’s Bayern side, as they prepare to lock horns with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa and FC Barcelona. Nevertheless, Bayern Munich are in a very good moment for the first time in a while. The fans, players and coaches will no doubt be basking in the moment while it lasts.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Alphonso Davies knows what a big match is on tap for next weekend. Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies appreciated the team’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen, but was already wary of what lies ahead during the postgame media scrum. Next Saturday, the Bavarians will take on reigning Bundesliga champion Bayer Leverkusen. ”We’re happy with the win, but we know that the next big task is ahead. We are looking forward to the game against Leverkusen. We are confident. They deserved to be champions last year, but it was not nice to watch them get the trophy. It will definitely be a great game.,” Davies said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Davies completed 95% of his passes, won five ground duels, had two key passes, and only lost possession 14 times in 90 minutes (a nice drop off from the 22.9 lost possession average per 90 minutes from last season). The Canadian played an efficient and intelligent game, which could mean trouble for Bayer Leverkusen — and any other team standing in Bayern Munich’s way. FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-BREMEN-BAYERN MUNICH Photo by AXEL HEIMKEN/AFP via Getty Images Best team in the Bundesliga baby. This Vincent Kompany era is starting to look like something.Bayern Munich kept the good vibes flowing with another dominant win on Saturday, this time 5-0 on the road at SV Werder Bremen. The Bavarians remain perfect through four games in the Bundesliga. Now for some quick hitters:How about that Harry Kane? Dropping team, firing a ball over the top to find Serge Gnabry in space, then getting into the box to get in position for a point-blank header in the 72nd minute — clawed away by the keeper on this occasion — epitomizing his completeness as a forward.Needless to say, though, it was the Michael Olise show.Leroy Sané is pushing very hard — almost too hard — to make an impact in his substitute appearances as he makes his return from injury. Is he feeling the pressure? Is there a stat for vibes and energy? This Bayern team does not conserve it. Maximum running, gung ho attack, total suffocation from the opening to the final whistle. What a change from a year ago. This was one of the limpest performances Bayern has seen from an opponent in a long time. Considering Bayern’s last two games were 6-1 and 9-2 wins, that’s saying something. But Bremen did not even manage a single shot. Not shot on goal — zero shots. How does that happen? Credit to Bayern’s structure, as well as relentless defending.Leverkusen up next. Can Bayern knock off the defending champions early? How did everyone do? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Watch out Leverkusen, Michael Olise has arrived. After a record-breaking performance mid-week in the Champions League against Dinamo Zagreb, Bayern Munich returned to Bundesliga action to face Werder Bremen. A sometimes difficult opponent in recent years, having beaten the team from Munich 1-0 in their last meeting and starting the season well, Bremen looked to cause another upset. Bayern, however, put all doubts to bed as they thrashed their opponents 5-0.Bayern put on their most impressive display of the seasonBayern just beat Zagreb 9-2, so how is it even possible that a 5-0 victory to Werder Bremen could ever be considered more impressive a feat? Not only did Bayern completely dominate every aspect of the game, but they did so without allowing Bremen to take a single shot. A team going into a home game and creating zero expected goals (FotMob) is almost unheard of. Even lowly Zagreb managed to fashion chances against Bayern. Coming off of halftime the Croatian side was able to get the score to 3-2, giving them a semblance of hope, something Bremen never had.Vincent Kompany is doing everything right at Bayern MunichBayern’s blistering start to the 2024/25 campaign has been thanks in no small part to new head coach Vincent Kompany. Kompany has Der Rekordmeister playing an untouchable brand of football and has a very real chance of cementing himself amongst the likes of Jupp Heynckes and Hansi Flick as one of Bayern’s best coaches of the 21st century. It can sometimes be challenging to find a coach who can both make the right choices stylistically and handle substitutions well, but Kompany seems capable. Bremen head coach Ole Werner made two half-time substitutions, which were effective in somewhat switching the momentum of the match Bremen’s way. Kompany’s response was to make two changes of his own, after which Bayern stabilized and added to the tally of the two goals accumulated in the first half.Bayern Munich was right to sell Matthijs de LigtIs de Ligt an excellent player? Yes. However, Max Eberl recently shed light on the reasoning behind the decision, citing the superiority possessed by Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae when it comes to defending higher up the pitch. The match against Bremen exemplified these qualities, with the Bayern center-back pairing quickly jumping on any Bremen players receiving the ball anywhere near the halfway line. Add to this the fact that Bayern needed to sell one of their, at the time, five center-backs and it makes sense that the club decided to offload the most desirable of the bunch given the confidence the decision-makers had in Upa and Kim.Mathys Tel can’t get a look inWhile Bayern might’ve done a good job in addressing congestion in defensive areas of the pitch over the summer transfer window, Bayern has a lot of midfield and attacking players. Leon Goretzka has had issues getting into the squad, Leroy Sané has been on the sidelines, and Mathys Tel can’t seem to get onto the pitch. Tel was one of Bayern’s most exciting players last season, but if he can’t improve his standing in the squad, the club should look to loan him out come January. Bayern is performing well, but if players aren’t getting enough minutes, then Vincent Kompany could face issues with squad members becoming unhappy.Michael Olise is everything we’d hoped he’d be and morePart of the reason Tel is finding himself short of minutes and why Leroy Sané doesn’t deserve to be in the first eleven at the moment is the rapid start that Michael Olise has had to his Bayern career. Olise came with a hefty price tag, but he has somehow looked worth the absurd fee paid for him. Scoring two and assisting two more, Olise ran the show against Bremen.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Can Kompany’s unbeaten start keep going? MATCHDAY! Bayern Munich head up north to face SV Werder Bremen, coming fresh of the back of a record-breaking 9-2 in the Champions League during midweek. Confidence is high but so are expectations, and with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen also showing their credentials in Europe this week, it’s imperative that Vincent Kompany keeps up the momentum. Vincent Kompany still has a bit of a situation at right-back, but the Zagreb game proved that Raphaël Guerreiro can do a pretty good job there if he’s called upon. In addition, the coach has called up Bayern II youngster Adam Aznou as additional fullback coverage if needed. Certain players who came off the bench in midweek, like Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, and Leon Goretzka, could also be in the mix, as might Sven Ulreich if Manuel Neuer isn’t fully fit.
