FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Bargain of the transfer window Michael Olise has already proved himself to be a decent player while he was still at Crystal Palace. Bayern Munich came calling in the summer and signed him for at least £45 million and played with France at the Olympics where he truly blossomed. He has carried that form into club level, leaving a good impression on the club bosses:Bayern are extremely happy with Michael Olise, not just for his three goals in the last two games.Impact has been excellent and Bayern believe it’s been a bargain for £45m + £5m add-ons.Management and staff both see huge potential as he can develop a lot and quickly.– Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano)Bayern has an extremely talented roster of wingers, with Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and a resurgent Serge Gnabry being only a portion of an all-star team that includes Harry Kane up front. If Olise keeps this form up, Palace will almost certainly get their extra £5 million performance-related bonus soon enough.

Tottenham Hotspur v FC Bayern Munich - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Visionhaus/Getty Images Der Kapitän incoming? Joshua Kimmich is often noted for his leadership abilities (whether for good or for worse) and was touted to become a leader for both club and country for a good period of time. Kimmich is now Germany’s captain after Manuel Neuer’s retirement and might very well succeed him at club level too.“We have two big figures in Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller who will leave us at some point in the foreseeable future due to their age,” Max Eberl told BR24 (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “So, we need new big figures. Joshua Kimmich, with his performances, his willingness, his heart, is predestined for that. It’s not for nothing that he’s captain of the German national team. He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future. But first we have to extend the contract, which will be strenuous enough”.The end of Müller’s and Neuer’s careers are not far off, and the club must shape the figure that will replace those two players.

FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images It’s a big week for Bayern Munich... City favorite to get Musiala (Esteemed Kompany)Manchester City could be emerging as the favorite to land Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala next summer: By now it is almost certain that Manchester City have an interest in signing Jamal Musiala next summer. Given that players such as Kevin De Bruyne are getting close to the end of their storied careers the time is coming when City will begin to rebuild their midfield. Musiala appears to be the ideal player to one day replace Kevin De Bruyne. Now, a new report indicates that City is considered the favourite to sign the German international if he does become available next summer.Christian Falk has reported via his exclusive Daily Briefing column that Manchester City are considered the favourites to land Jamal Musiala. Furthermore, Falk adds that Musiala is a highly ambitious player who wants to win the Champions League. Falk also reports that Manchester City’s status as a perennial contender for the competition makes them the favourite to land Musiala. It is also reported by Falk that Musiala’s connections to England make the Premier League an attractive destination for the German international. Lastly, Falk reports that Musiala signing a new deal with Bayern is considered the most likely scenario at this stage. It is obvious that the contract situation surrounding Jamal Musiala will dictate his future. If he signs an extension at Bayern, then the speculation over his future will end. But if he doesn’t by next summer’s transfer window then Manchester City have every chance of landing Musiala.Musiala’s situation is obviously the most important contract deal on the table for Bayern Munich. If he does not ink a new deal by the end of March, what will that tell us? Let’s hope we don’t find out. LFC, PSG want Haaland, who might be eyeing Barca stop (El Nacional via 90Min.com)Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain both want Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, but he might have his eyes on another club.Surprisingly, it is not Real Madrid, but the Spanish club’s archrival, FC Barcelona: Liverpool and PSG have reached out to Erling Haaland over a future move, but the striker would prefer to head to Barcelona if he leaves Manchester City. He is no longer interested in joining Real Madrid. Robert Lewandowski cannot avoid his clubs having a desire to bring in Haaland, eh? When Lewandowski was at Bayern Munich, former sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić famously (or infamously depending on your perspective) hosted Haaland in a meeting at his house. Anyway, Haaland has been pretty damned good for City: Erling Haaland is the joint-fastest to player to score 100 goals for a single club, doing so in 105 games, level with Ronaldo pic.twitter.com/iiK3hxyrvh— WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) September 22, 2024Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show: Werder Bremen 0-5 Bayern Munich (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich put a 5-0 beatdown on what had been a solid Werder Bremen side (it remains to be seen how it handles this kind of decimation) on a day where we might have learned a little more about how Vincent Kompany is planning to move forward with this team. FC Bayern Munich v Grashoppers Zurich - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images We can let Davies go to Madrid and we’d be alright. Bayern Munich strike again by nabbing a promising youth player and molding him to be a superstar. The most high-profile instance is Jamal Musiala coming in from Chelsea FC, followed by Mathys Tel from Stade Rennais. This time, it’s Adam Aznou from FC Barcelona.“He’s developing really well. He’s training hard,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said on Adam Aznou’s development (Sky Sports Germany via @iMiaSanMia). “Adam is an exceptional player. His development over the past 5-6 months has been really, really good. He’s right at the top of our list. A player we take great care of. We obviously hope to see him in the first team.” FC Bayern München v Grashoppers Zürich - Preseason Friendly Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images The young Spanish Moroccan is a fair shout to be included in the Rekordmeister’s matchday squad in their Bundesliga match against Bremen this weekend, but Freund said the club need not rush with him: “He’s not missing much to be there. Everyone knows that he brings a lot and has come a long way. He’s very close to the first team. The coaches are very happy with him. He did very well in preseason.”On his maiden call-up to the Moroccan national football team, Aznou played 90 minutes against Lesotho and was named MotM in his side’s 1-0 win.

Bayern Munich v Dinamo Zagreb - UEFA Champions League Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images He’s one of our own! Jamal Musiala’s continuing to raise his game and profile, and at the same time clubs are raising their efforts to try and swipe him from Bayern Munich. Musiala’s current deal runs through 2026 and given Bayern’s history with near-expiring contracts, these usually don’t go well (see Alphonso Davies). Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, however, doesn’t see the need to rush because the Bavarians have no intention of letting their superstar go.“No [when asked if Musiala was given a deadline for contract talks],” Freund said flatly (Sky Sports Germany via @iMiaSanMia). “Jamal still has two years left on his contract. There’s no urgent need for action. We want him to stay at Bayern for as long as possible. It’s not our goal to sell him”.The Premier League and its clubs are the spanners in the works of Musiala extending his contract, and if Musiala wants to get Brexit tackled every week then that’s his choice.

Bayern Munich v Dinamo Zagreb - UEFA Champions League Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images At least enough time for the judges to indict Man City Jamal Musiala has grown to be one of Bayern Munich’s best players and it’s no surprise that several European bigwigs are prepared to pry the young German away from Munich. With that in mind, Max Eberl wants to lock him down “as soon as possible.”“Of course we want to extend Jamal’s contract, that’s not a secret,” Eberl declared (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “Talks are already underway and will now be intensified. Jamal should be the face of FC Bayern. Will it be difficult? Difficult yes, but not impossible. Jamal knows what he has in FC Bayern. It’s the club that took him to this level. We’re ambitious, we want to win titles, just like Jamal. Bayern’s goal is to keep Jamal.”Bayern are also known for having several high earners in the team, something that Eberl has acknowledged, but “not to as many players across the squad.” Musiala has also reportedly taken down Bayer’s first offer, but this should be done with minimal fuss.

SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Musiala is showing wisdom beyond his years. Earlier this month, the French Football magazine set off a firestorm in Germany by excluding Bayern Munich superstar Jamal Musiala from the final 30 candidates for the Ballon d’Or award. Bayern’s entire organization publicly supported Musiala amid the disrespectful move, but there’s always room for a critic to stick his foot in his mouth. That critic turned out to be former Bayern player and current media personality Didi Hamann. Hamann labeled Musiala as a “individualistic, solo performer [who] doesn’t make players around him better.”Musiala has remained mum on the issue and instead elected to let his play do the talking. Since the Hamann interview, Musiala has torched defenses with a handful of world class performances. In his postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Musiala said, “I’m always open to criticism. I hear what others say, but for me the most important thing is what the coach wants and what my teammates say. I’m focused on myself and trying to get better with every game. I’m very self critical. I try to enjoy my football and don’t pay much attention to what’s being said in the media.”With the weight of the world on the 21-year old, Musiala has responded with professionalism and maturity. Keep it up, Jamal!Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? Bayern Munich v Dinamo Zagreb - UEFA Champions League Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images Just like everyone, he wants to end Kane’s trophy less streak. Bayern Munich had their 11 year winning streak in the Bundesliga ended by Bayer Leverkusen last season, and the players were, obviously, as devastated by it as the fans. In the new Bayern documentary, Chasing Wembley, Alphonso Davies was asked about the titles at the club last season, or rather lack thereof, and he expressed the same disappointment as the rest of us: “We all truly believed we could’ve lifted the trophy this year. Next year knowing the final is in Munich, that’s even more motivation for us to fight with everything we have to make it.”Bayern Munich ended last season with zero trophies, the first time since the 2011/12 season. It had been more than a decade since such a disappointing season plagued Die Rekordmeister, and the players are more than ready to restart their streak of winning titles. The top of their trophy shopping list would be the Champions League. The UCL final is being hosted by Allianz Arena this season, meaning Bayern are all the more motivated to reach the final and win it in their home stadium. Winning a title in your home country, even more so home stadium, is an incredible moment for anyone in football. Germany missed out on that opportunity at the EUROs this summer, and now Bayern Munich are looking to grab that opportunity for themselves.

FC Bayern München v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Bundesliga/Bundesliga Collection via Getty Images INNN and Cyler compare coaches and talk about upcoming games. Bayern Munich are playing some of the best football we have seen in years. The club just got done scoring twenty goals in a single week and allowed ZERO shots (not shots on goal, just shots) against Werder Bremen. Vincent Kompany is proving the doubters wrong, and at the same time providing a damning indictment of the brand of football employed by former coach Thomas Tuchel. However, major challenges loom over the horizon. In this episode, INNN and Cyler discuss the following:A deep dive into the differences between Thomas Tuchel and Vincent Kompany. Why Kompany’s players seem to suddenly be “playing better” in the new system. The curious case of Joshua Kimmich — how Tuchel gaslit an entire fanbase. Why Vincent Kompany’s relegation at Burnley may have set him up for this current level of success. Setting a baseline — our expectations for upcoming games against Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, and FC Barcelona. Why those three games matter. How should Kompany line up his team? Does João Palhinha deserve a chance against Leverkusen? INNN is forced to shut up about Thomas Müller (for one episode, don’t get used to it). What is the major concern heading into the Leverkusen game? INNN and Cyler disagree. What would it mean for Kompany if he fails to beat Leverkusen?Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Bayern Munich will be put to the test against Leverkusen next weekend. Due to the lack of managerial experience, Bayern Munich’s hire of Vincent Kompany was met with a fair amount of skepticism. Thus far, Kompany has blown away the competition. Kompany has won all six of his Bayern matches, mostly with a large cushion. Only Wolfsburg has been able to hold a single goal deficit through 90 minutes, while SSV Ulm (DFB-Pokal), Dinamo Zagreb (Champions League) Freiburg, Holstein Kiel, and Werder Bremen have all suffered larger defeats.According to @iMiaSanMia, Kompany’s start at Bayern is the best in nearly a decade.Vincent Kompany:

Werder Bremen - Bayern Munich Photo by Carmen Jaspersen/picture alliance via Getty Images It’s hard to not sit back and admire what has been a perfect start to the season for Bayern under Vincent Kompany. Bayern Munich continued their perfect start to the season in emphatic fashion, topping Werder Bremen 5-0 at the Weserstadion, making it six wins from as many competitive matches under Vincent Kompany so far this season. It was well and truly one way traffic as Kompany’s side out shot Bremen 25-0, while a Michael Olise brace led the winning effort from the Rekordmeister. Elsewhere, goals were scored by Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, and Serge Gnabry. The squad goes into their annual visit to the Paulaner Oktoberfest wiesn on a high note, coming off the heels of their 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and 5-0 routing of Bremen in the Bundesliga. From all six matches thus far, Bayern has outscored their opponents 29-5 across all competitions, and they sit at the top of both the Bundesliga and Champions League tables now that the format in the latter of the competition is one large table as opposed to separate groups. By now, Kompany has started to firmly establish his playing styles and ideas with the squad, and the clean sheet with conceding 0 shots to Bremen was perhaps yet another milestone it what has been a blistering start for Bayern. They are electric going forward and have been improving collectively in defense even though they have some injuries to key players in that department and Kompany has had to make some rotations, particularly to the wide back roles. After the win in Bremen, board member for sport Max Eberl offered his own admiration for how well the team is currently playing. He is particularly fond of the way every player helps the team defend as a unit, regardless of their position. “We’re supporting each other. Everyone plays a part in defence, we put the passer under pressure. That makes it easier for the defender and the strikers when they win the ball high up. Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano played outstandingly today. Bremen didn’t have a shot on goal. There was only one situation in the 55th minute when Michael Olise cleared the ball in the penalty box. That’s Bayern Munich,” he explained (via @iMiaSanMia).“After a game like that (over Bremen), I’d be even happier putting on my Lederhosen tomorrow. We have boys who are eager to play and take risks. If you’re constantly chasing them, you’ll eventually lose interest. We’re currently winning the ball very, very high up, so the boys have space and can show off their quality. At the moment, it’s just fun.”They now have a full week of rest ahead of the massive clash against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga next weekend, which comes ahead of another English Week — something that will be commonplace just before, and after the October international break. FBL-ESP-LIGA-VILLAREAL-BARCELONA Photo by JOSE JORDAN/AFP via Getty Images Get well soon, ter Stegen. This writer wishes you all the best on your road to recovery. During FC Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday, German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen rose to catch a ball lofted in from a corner. Though the catch was successful, his landing was anything but as a collision with a Villarreal player saw the former Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper land horribly and clearly sustain an injury, which led to him being stretchered off the field with his face in his hands. The worst was expected after such a painful injury and early signs suggest that those expectations will be met. Reporter Javi Miguel says that Ter Stegen has a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee and that his season is most likely over, more than eight months before Barcelona’s last game of the season. Ter Stegen has come under a lot of criticism in recent games but this will no doubt be a massive blow to the Blaugranas, who have been unfortunately dealing with several long term injuries this season. This will also have a big impact on the German national team. Due to Manuel Neuer’s recent international retirement, Julian Nagelsmann had finally made ter Stegen his undisputed first choice goalkeeper but this will throw a big wrench in those plans. Who will take the injury stricken goalkeeper’s place? Will Neuer come back immediately? Will the likes of Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel or Stefan Ortega be given the starting position? Given the October international break is about two weeks away now, it will be interesting to see what decision the former Bayern Munich boss will make. But above all, this is an incredibly tragic turn of events for Ter Stegen. Having come under such criticism in the early stages of the club season and having just become Germany’s first choice goalkeeper after around a decade of patience, the stage was set for the treble winning goalkeeper to prove his doubters wrong once again. Instead, he will be left to pick up the pieces after such a tragic injury and face an uphill battle to regain his best form before the 2026 World Cup. But perhaps this is yet another manner in which he can prove the critics wrong and come out on top despite all odds. We will have to wait and see.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Leon Kuegeler/Getty Images What in the world is in Xabi Alonso’s secret stuff? Bayer Leverkusen did it again.Tied 3-3 late in the day against Wolfsburg, the defending champs — no longer invincible after a loss early in this season — Die Werkself found itself on the ropes. Dropping points twice in four games was no way to enter its titanic clash against Bayern Munich next weekend. And so they didn’t. As they have so many times before under Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen found the magic late. Striker Victor Boniface received in the box, turned on a swivel, and fired home past Wolfsburg keeper Kamil Grabara in the third minute of stoppage time to restore the advantage — and nearly scored a second time before it was all over.It was not a smooth game for the reigning title holders. Wolfsburg struck within five minutes. After Leverkusen roared back to a 2-1 lead just past the half-hour mark, Wolfsburg struck twice more before the break before an early second-half goal made for a final 45’ full of tension. The late goal always looked coming, though. Xabi Alonso’s men poured on the pressure, dominating the possession and fashioning an endless stream of chances. Granit Xhaka nearly at one point scored a wonder goal from distance but struck the post — the kind of misfortune that would cause most spirits to flag. And the stats tell the tale of an almost unlucky result — 2.2 xG to 0.59, from which the visiting Wolfsburg side had managed to conjure three goals. Almost unlucky. As they always do, the Leverkusen stars made just enough of their own luck. With Wolfsburg’s Yannick Gerhardt dismissed in the 88th minute for a foul and stomp on Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, Die Werkself smelled blood — spamming the box with dangerous balls until something came out of it.And something finally did. After a corner, Álex Grimaldo’s pass into a box deflected favorably to the wings for Florian Wirtz, who had taken the set piece. The German national team star had time and space to pick out Exequiel Palacios inside the box, and Palacios fired a second ball forward into a mass of bodies. The ball bounced around before Boniface latched on, and before any defenders could react, the striker had turned and struck it goal-ward. Perfectly tucked into the bottom corner. The Bayern defenders will have their hands full next week. But so will Leverkusen’s — the Bavarian steamroller shows no signs of stopping, and has put up 20 goals in its last three games.Next Saturday, then: it’s Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen in an early-season Bundesliga tilt for the ages. FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Lots of ice and elevation this week, Mr. Neuer. When Bayern Munich traveled to play at Werder Bremen this weekend, captain Manuel Neuer followed his pregame routine just like hundreds of other appearances for the Rekordmeister.Much to everyone’s surprise, Neuer finally showed some signs of being a 38-year old athlete. Neuer felt a small tweak in his leg and decided to sit out the game as a precaution. Luckily, backup Sven Ulreich was fit and the Bayern defense achieved the incredible feat of preventing Bremen from producing a single shot. After the game (via @iMiaSanMia), director of sportMax Eberl said, “It’s nothing serious. He felt something minimal today. We didn’t want to take any risks because if he tears something and is out for eight or nine weeks, then we’re out of luck.”Asked about Neuer’s availability against Leverkusen, Eberl quipped, “I’m not a doctor, but everyone tells me that.”That means it’s time for the medical staff to show their quality and get Neuer ready for the biggest game of the season.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany sports a stoic look ahead of Bayern Munich’s opening Champions League fixture against Dinamo Zagreb at Allianz Arena. | Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images If anyone should be feeling the pressure it’s Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. Unbeaten in six, an average of just under five goals per game all while playing some of the most dominant football in recent memory, Bayern Munich are off to an emphatic start to the 2024/25 campaign. At this point in the season, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich seems to be the real deal. On the contrary, Bayern have had a straightforward start to the season, with their most difficult fixture coming against SC Freiburg (who they dispatched of rather straightforwardly, winning 2-0).Bayern have yet to be truly tested thus far. The question then becomes: “When will Kompany really prove that he is creating something special with Bayern Munich?”Well, beating the defending Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen would be a pretty good start. Several reporters were curious as to how Kompany would take on the upcoming gauntlet (via @iMiaSanMia).“I don’t know. I first have to do the analysis of the opponent. My full focus was on today. From tomorrow, the focus will only be on Leverkusen. When I played against the top Bayern teams in the past, I didn’t have the impression that they were pressured by the opponent. They were always the ones to put the pressure and were good on the ball. We’ll see whether we’ll manage to do that,” said Kompany. It is interesting to see Kompany make reference to “Bayern teams in the past”. Compared to the last few seasons, these sides would have been far more synonymous with term “mentality monsters”, with the name Bayern Munich alone being enough to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents. Kompany’s response shows exactly what he is setting out to do with this Bayern side. He isn’t focused on just improving the team, but rebuilding the dynasty that was Bayern Munich. As the old saying goes: “Actions speak louder than words.” The actions of Vincent Kompany’s high-flying Bayern side will speak a thousand words when they take on Xabi Alonso’s formidable Bayer Leverkusen. Is Vincent Kompany the real deal? We’ll find out next weekend. Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images This Bayern squad can’t stop scoring! After putting up nine goals in the Champions league this week, Bayern Munich added another rout, this time thrashing Werder Bremen in their own stadium, 5-0. The victory ends Bremen’s impressive eight game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga.Michael Olise was the man of the match with two goals and two assists while Harry Kane followed up his four-goal outing against Dinamo Zagreb with a goal and two assists of his own. With the game in hand, Kane was even subbed off for the first time this season to provide some minutes for Raumdeuter Thomas Müller. This marks the eighth consecutive match where Bayern has scored multiple goals. What is Bayern’s secret sauce?“It’s been a great week. Credit to the boys for the attitude and mentality,” Kane reflected afterwards (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “This is a tough place, Bremen have been unbeaten for a while. The way we play on and off the ball has been great. The squad is being used well, the players are getting fitter, we were still pushing after three, four, five goals and wanted to score another.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen?
