Tottenham Hotspur v FC Bayern Munich - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Han Myung-Gu/Getty Images BFW’s Korean correspondent Maverick takes you inside Bayern’s Korea tour and offers his commentary. After a very successful tour of Japan and Singapore the previous year, plus a number of new Asian signings in Kim Min-jae and Hiroki Ito, it was only a matter of time before Bayern Munich visited the Far East again. The Bayern fans in Asia didn’t have to wait long at all, as the club announced that they would be visiting South Korea for the first time in its 124-year history.Although the traveling squad was missing a few big names due to the EUROs and Copa America, most notably Harry Kane, it still featured a colorful lineup. One such man was Thomas Müller, who posted a trademark video announcing the start of the tour from the team’s Korean Air charter plane. Interestingly enough, the team traveled by one of Korea’s flagship carriers, which normally does not serve routes to and from Munich. If you’re looking for a direct flight from Munich to Korea, Lufthansa is your only option. An 11-hour flight later, the team landed at Incheon International Airport, around an hour outside of the country’s capital city of Seoul. The team was greeted by around 300 enthusiastic fans, and the players’ first workout began with signing countless autographs for the fans who had made the long journey to Incheon. Captain Manuel Neuer in particular tried his hardest to reach every fan he could. The fans didn’t stop there, though, and more followed the team to their hotel in Yeouido, Seoul’s primary financial district. There, the team posed for a photo atop the hotel’s helipad, overlooking the Han River. FC Bayern Munich Audi Summer Tour 2024 In Asia Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Afterwards, the team took a half-hour bus ride to Goyang Stadium, where they had a short training session, mainly to get used to the torrid conditions of the Korean summer. A heads-up for anyone unfamiliar with Korea in summer, it’s one of the worst places to be on Earth. Temperatures stay well over 30 degrees Celsius, and sometimes go over 35. But what sets Korean summers apart isn’t the heat, it’s the humidity. Being a country surrounded on three sides by water, Korea is extremely humid in the summer, sometimes to the point that it’s hard to just stand still, let alone play football. However, the heat didn’t stop Mathys Tel and Aleksandar Pavlović from going on a little evening excursion that involved a bike ride along the riverbank and some Korean ramen, a staple for dates by the Han River. Min-jae also treated his teammates to traditional Korean barbecue, which Joshua Kimmich apparently particularly enjoyed. The second day was Bayern’s open training session at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. In front of over 10,000 fans, the entire team was put through its paces with rondos, attacking build-up drills, and four games on a reduced pitch. Two of the games ended in 0-0 and 2-2 draws, while the other two ended in 1-0 wins for the team in bibs. This writer was lucky enough to attend this training session, and here are a few insights: Media Due to the open nature of the session, there weren’t any particularly tactical drills.Manuel Neuer was on point, making outstanding saves all throughout the hour-long session. Media Thomas Müller was easily the most popular player. Whenever he got caught on the jumbotron, the fans went into rapture. There were more fans wearing his shirt (including yours truly) than any other player’s, even Kim’s. Media The weather did not help matters at all. Major props to everyone who had to run around in the suffocating heat. Apart from Neuer and Müller, Jamal Musiala was a standout. He scored one of the winners in the practice games.Vincent Kompany has one loud mouth. His voice could be heard all over the stadium. Media Sadly, this writer was not a part of the meet-and-greet that happened after the session, but he still left the stadium a very happy man. Before the training session, Musiala and Sven…

FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images After a fall like that, he probably shouldn’t play.. After a very scary looking fall while defending against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, Manuel Neuer was (rightfully) subbed off after an injury was suspected. But it looks like it may be worse than fans thought.Earlier this week, it was believed that Bayern Munich’s loyal goalkeeper would be in the squad against Werder Bremen, however Vincent Kompany chose to play Sven Ulreich. It has now been reported (@linner_nicolas) that Manuel Neuer did not take part in training today either, and instead completed an individual training program. He is now in doubts for the squad that will face Bayer Leverkusen next matchday. This match-up will be an extremely difficult challenge for Bayern, even if they recently found their momentum in the last week. Missing one of their most vital players, they may face an even bigger challenge than expected. However, according to the reports, the club is confident that the retired German legend will begin training with the squad again soon. The fans certainly hope he will. Why is Bayern Munich doing so much better under Vincent Kompany compared to Thomas Tuchel? What’s changed, and what does it say about the Tuchel era? And what should we expect for the upcoming game against Bayer Leverkusen? We discuss all that and more in our newest podcast episode! Listen to it below or on Spotify. As always, we appreciate all the support!

SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Bayern Munich’s scintillating new duo has officially landed. | Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Coman and Sané have been good for Bayern over the years, but it’s perhaps time for the club to make bank and move on. There is no denying that Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise are the most in-form wing duo in world football at the moment. The duo have notched a combined seven goals and goal assists in their past three appearances. Staggering numbers. It’s like FIFA career mode, but on real pitches with actual footballers.Olise being signed for €53 million now feels like an absolute bargain. The youngster may be tight-lipped in interviews, but he lets his football do the talking, and it is as eloquent as President Whitmore’s speech on Independence Day. Fluid, quick, unstoppable, and seriously effective.About Musiala, nothing needs to be said. Now that we have two extremely potent weapons manning the wings (yes, Musiala is a winger), and with Paul Wanner poised to break into the starting XI next season, there is an air of inevitability around a transition from the old guard. FC Bayern München v GNK Dinamo - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Who are you calling old, you schnitzel?! Technically, Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman are only 28 and supposedly in their footballing primes. The same can be said about Serge Gnabry (29). However, it is time to acknowledge that we have seen the best they have to offer, and that it is quite possible that it doesn’t get better than this. Olise is what we wanted Coman to be. He has all the attributes of Coman with monumentally better decision making and incisiveness. And he’s six years younger. Musiala on the other hand, is a guaranteed starter, and while coach Kompany insists on playing him in the center, he drifts out wide to attack the half-spaces anyway. Serge Gnabry seems hell-bent on staying and proving himself, but if history is anything to go by, we can expect this form to last another few months before he faces his seasonal slump (again). With Sané’s contract expiring next summer and his current Transfermarkt valuation at €70 million, it is perhaps time to consider a sale. Coman on the other hand, has another three seasons at Bayern, but might still fetch a hefty sum that might make his sale also worth pondering. Gnabry has been excellent so far, with five goal contributions in just 6 appearances. However, will this translate to the rest of the season? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Do we keep the chef at Bayern only to use him when it’s time to cook English clubs? Combined, all three wingers could fetch as much as €120 million (or more). However, given that Bayern is not a selling club, the sales might realistically bring in close to €100 million, still an extremely healthy sum worth consideration. If you also factor in Mathys Tel yearning for an opportunity to display his abilities on the pitch again, and Bryan Zaragoza (who?) returning next season, the club has even more offensive weapons that might stagnate without sufficient chances. Paul Wanner is likely in the club’s plans for next season, and the management might already have their eyes on a certain Florian Wirtz. All this makes squad planning even more paramount. These moves could help generate funds for top future transfers. Bayern Munich’s young crop have taken over, and it is time for the club to make a call: whether to let contracts expire or make money while it’s still possible. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images At this rate, Bayern Munich should just go undefeated. After the fourth Bundesliga matchday, only three clubs remain undefeated (Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Union Berlin). All three relegation zone teams earned a draw and their first points of the season. Leverkusen pulled another rabbit of the hat with a late winner and Stuttgart delivered a shocker by decimating Dortmund.Bayern scored 20 goals in eight days, becoming the only team in Europe who has won all of its matches this season. Harry Kane is the Bundesliga leader in goals (5) and assists (4).This series will recap each team’s performance and rank the Bundesliga teams following each matchday. The ranking system is based on the quality of performances, opponents, and recent matches.1) Bayern MunichPrevious Ranking: 1Result: 5-0 at Werder BremenIn breaking news, rain is wet and Harry Kane scored. Kane mixed it up and added two assists for the second time in his Bayern career. Newcomer Michael Olise continued his celebration parade to the corner flag with another brace this weekend. Bayern picked apart Bremen all over the pitch and didn’t allow a single shot on last minute fill-in, Sven Ulreich. Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry also found the back of the net in the third rout in the past week.2) Bayer LeverkusenPrevious Ranking: 3Result: 4-3 win vs WolfsburgAfter the dominating 4-0 Champions League on Thursday, Leverkusen switched tactics and went back to the well for another stoppage time game winner. Despite holding 79% possession, Leverkusen’s defense lost its mental fortitude and conceded three first half goals. This squad is talented enough to win games but is still heavily reliant on last minute theatrics to get the job done.3) FreiburgPrevious Ranking: 7Result: 3-0 win at HeidenheimBesides the loss to Bayern, Freiburg has been solid. The defense has been suffocating and the offense has been electric down the stretch, scoring seven of its eight goals in the second half. Ritsu Doan scored in the 54th minute (again) and Vincenzo Grifo found a brace in a six-minute span to put the match away.4) Eintracht FrankfurtPrevious Ranking: 6Result: 2-0 win vs Borussia MönchengladbachFrankfurt’s defense has been gritty all season but the bigger surprise has been the offensive outburst. Omar Marmoush’s clever dribbling embarrasses defenders in the box on his goals and 20-year old Hugo Larsson continues to impress in the midfield. This team should carry a four-game winning streak headed into the October clash with Bayern.5) StuttgartPrevious Ranking: 8Result: 5-1 win vs Borussia DortmundStuttgart is looking more dangerous with each passing week. On Tuesday, Stuttgart gave Real Madrid all it could handle for 90 minutes. Stuttgart was unable to pull off that upset but unleashed hellfire on Dortmund. Enzo Millot was magnificent with a goal and two assists. Deniz Undav delivered two goals and Ermedin Demirović is quickly becoming a world class finisher.6) RB LeipzigPrevious Ranking: 2Result: 0-0 draw at St. PauliLeipzig carried a major hangover from the devastating loss to Atletico Madrid on Thursday. Leipzig’s defense withstood a pounding from St. Pauli in the first half. Leipzig’s offense is clearly too reliant on Loïs Openda’s creativity. Squad depth might become an issue as Leipzig navigates the path through a busy schedule Hinrunde.7) Borussia DortmundPrevious Ranking: 4Result: 5-1 loss at StuttgartThe Dortmund squad that crushed Club Brugge on Wednesday was nowhere to be found this weekend. Dortmund spent the entire match on its heels, conceding five goals on nine shots on target. Nico Schlotterbeck had his worst match since the 4-0 loss to Bayern last November. With a loaded schedule, Nuri Şahin will need to find a better path through the grueling schedule.8) Union BerlinPrevious Ranking: 9Result: 2-1 win vs HoffenheimUnion Berlin scored two chaotic goals in the first six minutes and then held on for dear life to extend their Bundesliga…
