Bayern Munich has long been interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. The phenom has been balling out for both Leverkusen and the German national team, and a huge portion of his appeal to the club comes from his incredible chemistry with Jamal Musiala in Julian Nagelsmann’s setup. The duo are impossible to stop and seem to have a telepathic understanding of each other’s movements.Long term, this transfer could bode very well for a timely transition to next generation’s attack, and with Thomas Müller now way too old to start for Bayern, Wirtz would be the perfect fit. Of course, Bayern also has a perfect no. 10 option on the fray in Paul Wanner, who is having a stellar season thus far with Heidenheim. However, it is good to be greedy for excellence, and Wirtz is yet another world-beater who BELONGS beside Musiala. According to a report from Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern now have a price tag estimate for the superb talent. However, the club will be competing with Real Madrid for his signature.Florian Wirtz is very highly rated by Bayern bosses. Therefore, it is likely that the clubs don’t hold back.This has all the elements of a very interesting, long, arduous, and expensive battle between two behemoths. One thing that might work in Bayern’s favor, though, is the young German core in midfield in Musiala and Aleksandar Pavlović. Along with that knowledge naturally came many attempts from the press to elicit more information from the Bayern officials about said interest in the German star and provoke some juicy, controversial quotes to splash all over their front page. At a particularly interesting moment, less than a week before Bayern’s big clash against Leverkusen, the Bavarians’ sporting director Christoph Freund was asked again whether Wirtz could be a Bayern target in 2025. X account @iMiaSanMia captured his response: “That’s not our topic right now. We’re very happy with the squad we have. Of course Flo Wirtz is a great player, did very well last season and is playing well together with Jamal in the national team. But as I said we’re happy with our squad. I can’t say what will happen in the coming months and years and don’t want to speculate.”As per usual, Freund refused to make an inflammatory comments, though he did leave the door open for a potential move. Jamal Musiala’s current contract with Bayern Munich is set to run through June 2026, but the club has already started discussions over a new deal with the electric playmaker. Musiala currently earns around €9m gross per year for Bayern, but it is understood that the player will certainly receive a salary increase, it is just a matter of how much the club’s front office and supervisory board would be willing to offer. He is worth his weight in gold in the squad, though, so it would not be surprising to see him become one of the highest earners at the club, if not the highest earner.Per information from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk (via @iMiaSanMia), sources close to Bayern have reported that the initial contract talks between Musiala and the club have been “very, very positive.” It goes without saying that there are a bevy of European clubs interested in trying to sign him, but with the conversations that have already taken place, Bayern is currently the club the leads the race to, in this case, keep him for longer. It had been reported that both Max Eberl and Christoph Freund admired the fact that Musiala was actively thinking about the continued improvement of the overall squad structure. The squad structure and planning sentiment is an extension of the fact that Musiala is very much enjoying working with new manager Vincent Kompany. He has already had to adjust to playing styles under Hansi Flick, Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, but he likes the way Kompany is currently leading the team. From the club’s perspective, the relationship between the player and Kompany was understood to bear a significant amount of weight in the contract talks and negotiations over a new deal. For FC Barcelona keeper Marc-André ter Stegen, there could not have been a more heartbreaking script written. He suffered a significant knee injury in the club’s 5-1 win over Villarreal over the weekend and later tests have revealed that the German international has suffered a ruptured patella tendon. He will be sidelined for roughly seven to eight months for the Catalan club and we will now also be out of action for the German national team for a considerable spell. Ter Stegen had only just become Germany’s number one keeper under Julian Nagelsmann after Manuel Neuer had announced his official retirement from international football after the European Championships. For so long, ter Stegen has waited for his time to have been passed the proverbial baton by Neuer, and so soon after that time has finally come, he has now experienced this incredible setback.Despite the lengthy injury to the keeper that had been his long-time understudy with the national team, Neuer has already come out and quelled any suggestion that he might be considering coming out of retirement at least temporarily. Per information from Tz (via @iMiaSanMia), the Bayern Munich keeper is sticking to his guns and staying with the decision to stay retired. He does not want to make even a partial return at this point. For now, Neuer’s full focus is with Bayern, who have had an impressive start to the season under new manager Vincent Kompany. From the Belgian’s perspective, he will take Neuer’s decision as welcome news since it negates the risk of injury while away on international duty and Bayern can consistently monitor his health and fitness. There has been more than one occasion where Neuer has previously been rushed back from injury prematurely to a costly outcome. Not having matches and trips with the German national team can certain alleviate that workload.For now, Nagelsmann will likely have to go with Oliver Baumann and former Bayern keeper Alexander Nübel for the October international break next month. Kevin Trapp is also currently injured and Bernd Leno, who is another option, has not been a part of the national team squad for quite some time. It has been months since the UEFA European Championship ended, since Germany tragically lost to Spain in the quarterfinals of the tournament, and yet UEFA decides to surprise (not really) fans anyway. During the intensely dramatic quarterfinal, Marc Cucurella made contact with the ball with his arm, inside his own box, which in usual circumstances would lead to a penalty. Not this game, though. For some extremely mysterious reason, the referees of the game, including VAR, decided not to award the penalty to Germany, a decision that could have very well led to Germany winning. Months later, UEFA has released a statement that admits to the error that the game officials made back then. According to the UEFA Referees Committee (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):Following the latest UEFA guidelines, hand-to-ball contact that stops a shot on goal should be punished more strictly, and in most cases a penalty kick should be awarded, unless the defender’s arm is very close to the body or in contact with the body. In this case [Cucurella], the defender stops the shot on goal with his arm, which is not very close to the body, making himself bigger, so a penalty kick should have been awarded.Anyone with the tiniest bit of football knowledge could have deduced this themselves, yet the light bulb failed to light in the referee. The UEFA Referees Committee periodically analyses games and decisions made by referees in the past, in order to make them learning experiences for referees in the future. This game was one of the matches, and international referees have rightfully been informed that it should have ended in a penalty. Does this change anything? That wasn’t maybe as much the case when I started, but then at the end of my career it was – and I suppose we’re always trying to push those boundaries to see if there’s a component we can do individually with the players, if there’s something we can add on the pitches. Everybody’s trying to push that line to what’s going to be next, and that’s exciting.”Today, you have coaches like Pep Guardiola who continues to revolutionize the way football is played. After his move to Manchester United this summer, former Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui was asked about the transfer and his reasons for making the switch. His answer (via The Mirror) will irk some fans of his former club.“I think if you compare both of them, you cannot say one is bigger than the other,” said Mazraoui. “Maybe internationally speaking, United is probably even bigger than Bayern, so that’s one of the reasons. The other reason is I felt the summer after two seasons playing in Bayern that I needed and wanted to take another step, based on a lot of reasons.“I felt okay there, but I felt I could feel better and more comfortable somewhere else and that’s why I chose to change clubs. United came in and I don’t think I have to explain why I joined such a club. It’s not me who decides the fee, so I can’t really say anything about the negotiations between United and Bayern.”You get the feeling that he’s not telling the whole story. In any case, whatever happened behind the scenes, we hope that Maz is now comfortable at his new club, struggling to manage a win vs the Dutch 4th place side FC Twente. When new head coach Vincent Kompany chose 5 players from Bayern Munich’s U-23 team to join the senior team’s 2024 preseason in Seoul, Jonathan “Jonny” Asp Jensen could count himself as desperately unlucky not to be included. Certainly, he was the most high profile exclusion. But instead of making any kind of fuss about it, he instead turned his attention to demonstrating his ability with the U-23s in the Regionalliga, notching two goals and five assists in five games, carrying Bayern II to six wins out of the first seven games. But Bayern already knows what a talent the club has in its ranks, which is why the news from the Bavarian’s official website that Asp Jensen’s contract has now been renewed comes as no surprise. The new contract, which comes as the 18-year-old Dane’s first professional contract, will run until 2028. Jochen Sauer, the director of the FC Bayern Campus, had this to say: “Jonny is in his third season at the campus and, in this time, has continued to steadily develop. At the start of the current Regionalliga season he was one of the very best players in the team. In Germany, most are expecting Musiala to extend his contract with the Bavarians and help lead both club and country into a new era. However, with the possibility open that the youngster could see what other kinds of opportunities are out in the market for him, there is a lot of interest abroad — including from Manchester City and Real Madrid: Manchester City are firmly in the race to sign Jamal Musiala but Real Madrid are also pushing to bring him in, sources have revealed to TEAMtalk. The LaLiga giants consider the Bayern Munich superstar to be a top target for next summer to strengthen their attack.Madrid want to sign what sources describe as a ‘top-level alternative to Jude Bellingham.’ They have prioritised a move for Musiala following the injury to Brahim Diaz, which has exposed their lack of quality options in attacking midfield.Diaz will have to recover quickly for the second half of the season when he returns to action in December as Madrid aim to lift the LaLiga title.The first months of 2025 will certainly give answers on Diaz and if his performances are not up to scratch, TEAMtalk understands this would open the door to the potential signing of Musiala. The 21-year-old, who was one of the standout performers at Euro 2024, is hugely admired by Ancelotti. After his team was ambushed 5-0 by Bayern Munich on Saturday, Werder Bremen director of football Clemens Fritz could not believe what his eyes just saw. “I felt like I was back in the days under Pep Guardiola. Bayern played with a lot of intensity and had incredible ball control. When Bayern are in top form, it’s difficult to get anything against them,” said Fritz during an appearance on SPORT1-Doppelpass (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “In the [recent] past, Bayern always gave you phases where you could gain possession of the ball and find your own structure. But yesterday there was such an intensity that even in the 88th minute, Kompany was still pushing his players from the sideline, and the players also wanted to keep going. This counter-pressing didn’t give us any time to breathe. They got the ball back straight away.”That is a pretty good summary of how things played out. The said highlights will be hyperlinked on top of the scorelines of each respective team. Without further ado, here is the Round Up:Hankofen-Hailing 2-0 Bayern U-23sBayern lineup: Schmitt - Dell’Erba, Breitkreuz, Dettoni (46. Rüger), Brückner - Aseko, Denk - Irankunda, Demircan, Scott (46. Kusi-Asare) - Wagner (46. Unsöld).Bayern goals: NoneWell, it was bound to happen eventually. The U-23s started the season with an absolute bang, winning 6 of the first 7 matches and dealing with the loss of some of the team’s most prominent talent to the first team’s pre-season, but injuries (Bayern were missing 10 players today through injury or illness... Adam Aznou was also unavailable for some reason) and a loss of momentum have started to catch up with the team. After drawing two matches in a row by salvaging late draws, Bayern were unable to do the same here as they slumped to a loss against Hankofen-Hailing. Nor was this a loss like the previous weeks in which the Bavarians dominated, only to gift opponents the chance to score time and time again through sloppy mistakes. This time, the hosts dominated but Bayern’s habit of making sloppy mistakes continued. It makes for a worrying trend, one that needs to be arrested as soon as possible. This result puts Bayern sees Bayern slip further down the table into 5th, 6 points (with a game in hand) behind first and the only promotion spot. The team’s next match with be against Buchbach at home on Friday, September 27 at 12:00PM CST. Hopefully the home support will rally the team and break their three game winless run.Augsburg U-19 2-3 Bayern U-19Bayern lineup: Klanac - Schuhbauer (46. Dalpiaz), Scholl, Puljić, Ofli (88. Durakov).Bayern goals: 0:1 Chávez (17.), 0:2 Ofli (25.), 1:3 Codjo-Evora (85.)As part of the new youth league format the DFL officially started this year, each U-19 team is set to play 14 games in the first half of the season before being sorted into new leagues for the second half based on their league position. This was the 7th matchday and the win means that Bayern sit a comfortable 9 points ahead of 2nd place with a perfect record. But they were made to work for the perfect record by a very well organized Augsburg side that were surprisingly flexible tactically, rotating between a back three and back four, demonstrating extreme competency in executing quick counterattacks and the ability to compress the space in between the lines when needed. It was of course helpful, then, that Bayern were able to pounce on two good opportunities and create an early lead, one the team would not let go. They were consistently challenged by an Augsburg side that reduced the arrears in the 34th minute and threatened to overwhelm the Bavarians on occasion, but the very high technical and tactical quality of the team ultimately prevented Augsburg from getting too close to a victory.As mentioned previously, this result leaves Bayern with 21 points and 9 points clear of 2nd place. This quest to retain this perfect record sees Bayern visit Greuther Fürth on Saturday, September 28 at 5:00AM CST. Bayern U-17 9-1 SSV Jahn Regensburg U-17Bayern line up: Kösters - Wijks (59. The rumors linking Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies to Real Madrid have been going on for months, but now the situation could be entering crunch time. If Bayern Munich does not present Davies with an offer he find acceptable by January, Real Madrid will be ready to make a proposal of their own per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): Real Madrid’s interest in Alphonso Davies remains strong. Davies is part of their list, but it will depend on contract talks between Bayern and the player. If he doesn’t extend the contract by January, Real Madrid will try to advance in talks to reach an agreement and bring him to the club.
