Club Brugge KV v Anderlecht - Jupiler Pro League Play-off Photo by Jeroen Meuwsen/Orange Pictures/BSR Agency/Getty Images We’re just getting started in this journey In terms of coaching experience, Vincent Kompany is a relative newcomer despite having managed Anderlecht, Burnley FC, and now Bayern Munich. He explained in an interview with UEFA (via @iMiaSanMia) the journey he went through to become a tactician.“I think the best decision I made was to take myself out of my comfort zone,” Kompany said. “There was an option to remain at the big clubs and continue a youth team trajectory to then, hopefully, maybe promote back to the top, but I went straight into the job and I learned to deal with changing squads, young players, older players, players who can execute certain things but not everything, from difficult situations in terms of results to having the extreme highs of winning nearly everything. So, I’ve experienced all of that and I’m only 38. And it gives me a feeling of having been in a job for a very, very long time now, and that’s something that I wouldn’t change for anything in the world. It was all fantastic learning.”Kompany is in the Julian Nagelsmann category of managers in terms of age, but the German NT coach is already some way ahead of his peers. Nevertheless, Kompany will look to continue his bright start for Bayern.

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by M. Donato/FC Bayern via Getty Images Neuer will go back between the sticks for this weekend’s massive Bundesliga clash. This weekend may be Vincent Kompany’s toughest test yet as manager of Bayern Munich. The first-year Bayern head coach has his side off to a perfect start thus far, having won all six matches across all competitions, but now the Bavarians are set to play host to reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena.Following up on a truly remarkable Meisterschale-winnin 2023/24 season, Xabi Alonso’s side have only slipped up once thus far this season, which came in Bundesliga match week two by virtue of a dramatic 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig. This weekend’s clash really needs no introduction, but the result will already have pundits and fans alike talking about title ramifications. In what is a much-welcomed injury boost for Bayern, it has been reported by Abendzeitung’s Kilian Kreitmar that keeper Manuel Neuer will make a return to action for the Rekordmeister for the weekend showdown with Die Werkself. The Bayern captain has been out ever since the second half of the 9-2 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb. He was subbed off for Sven Ulreich at the halftime interval after a nasty fall as a result of a mid-air collision with a Zagreb player shortly before the end of the first half. Despite being expected to play against Werder Bremen last weekend in Bayern’s 5-0 win over Die Grün-Weißen, Ulreich starting for Neuer was a late switch from Kompany as a precaution as to not further aggravate Neuer’s existing problem. Thankfully, Neuer has resumed training after having the better part of the past week to recover from the injury sustained against Zagreb and he will be good to go for Leverkusen. Much like last season, Kompany and Bayern’s staff will always air on the side of caution with Neuer as to not rush him back from injury too quickly. The keeper has also stood firm in his stance to stay retired from the German national team even with the recent injury to Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen, so he will always be able to closely monitored by Bayern’s physios as opposed to having to share some of that time with Germany. SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images To infinity...and beyond! That Aleksandar Pavlović is so hot right now.The former Bayern Munich ball boy is now all grown up and promoted to the seniors — and winning awards for his excellent play.Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg explained on Twitter earlier this month that the 21-year-old Bayern youngster and Germany international had captured the lion’s share in a poll of listeners to his transfers show for last year’s ‘Newcomer of the Season’: For the first time, we awarded the ‘Newcomer of the Season’ prize on our show ‘Transfer Update‘ … ✔️You voted, and with 40% of the votes, Aleksandar Pavlovic was chosen as the winner. Xavi secured second place with 26% of the votes. Yesterday, we presented Pavlovic with the award.Something tells us this will not be the last nor the highest accolade the 20-year-old will receive in the coming years. Nonetheless he seems to have taken it as a great honor, and the first of many steps in his burgeoning career.“I’m very happy that you voted for me. I just want to keep going and show even more,” the youngster is quoted as saying by Plettenberg. “The award means a lot to me. It’s something special. I want to be a regular starter, stay a regular starter, perform well, help the team, and win titles.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the latest Bayern Munich news? FC Bayern München Attends Oktoberfest 2024 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images for Paulaner The Bundesliga title race will start to heat up this weekend... Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich has been through Bundesliga battles before, but the meeting with Bayer Leverkusen this weekend holds a little more weight than usual. After Bayer Leverkusen ended Bayern Munich’s reign over the league last season, the Rekordmeister is out to prove itself. “We are three points ahead, we have a home game. We played a few good games. The way we’re playing football at the moment gives us confidence, regardless of whether we scored five or six goals. Of course, in the end it’s about winning, but the way we’re winning games gives us confidence in our strengths. We want to show that on Saturday,” said Kimmich. The match will make a statement for both squads — either Bayern Munich is back...or “the king stay the king” with Bayer Leverkusen. Bayer 04 Leverkusen v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Is a radical and controversial marketing program incoming? It is no secret that the Bundesliga is far behind the English Premier League in worldwide marketing. But after years of spinning their wheels trying to get international traction, the league is now entering into a partnership with Relevant to enhance their brand recognition and income, particularly from the American zone market. While the Bundesliga has done an excellent job of maximizing or saturating the German market they fall some significant distance behind their english rivals in international income. This disparity is particularly apparent in their broadcast revenues from the North American zone where the EPL will draw in $450 million a year compared to a very humble $30 million for the Bundesliga. In order to shrink this disparity the DFL has joined into a relationship with American company Relevant as reported by The Athletic and other sources. If the name is familiar this is the same company that has been retained by La Liga to do similar work for them which led to the proposal to hold regular season Spanish league matches in the United States.Of course FIFA banned this idea which led to Relevant challenging FIFA’s decision in court. The lawsuit has since been withdrawn but it was a clear shot across the bow signalling that Relevant is willing to take on the big institutions if they stand in the way of their client’s marketing plans. Their history has naturally led to many believing that Relevant will try to have regular season Bundesliga matches held in the United States or elsewhere outside of Germany. Rumours to this effect abound. Not surprisingly traditional German fan groups are not pleased by this idea and have already made their opposition very clear. The league’s marketing plans may now be in direct conflict with the wishes of the core fans. How that conflict evolves bears watching.Whatever the traditionalists may think, it is clear that the international marketing for the league needs revolutionary change and large increases in income if the non-elite Bundesliga teams are to remain healthy and “relevant.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the mega-matchup between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this weekend? FC Bayern Munich Audi Summer Tour 2024 In Asia Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Just in time for another English week. Some good news on the training front for Bayern Munich: captain Manuel Neuer and starlet Mathys Tel are back training with the team.Neuer had missed Monday and Tuesday’s training sessions due to a minor thigh problem, a problem that kept him on the bench against Werder Bremen last weekend. However, there were multiple reports that suggested Neuer’s absence would not be long, and that he would be back before the next Bundesliga match. Now, with the match two days away, Neuer has returned to team training.Tel, meanwhile, had missed Tuesday’s session with a slight hip problem, but completed an individual session on the team’s day off on Wednesday. The youngster then rejoined the team on Thursday.Bayern have an immensely tough week ahead of them right before the October international break. On Saturday, they face defending Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, and the week after, they visit Eintracht Frankfurt, which is always a tough place to go to. Sandwiched between the two league fixtures is a Champions League meeting with Aston Villa. These three fixtures will serve as barometers for just how far Vincent Kompany’s team has come since he took office in June. While Sven Ulreich filled in for Neuer quite well as usual for the past one and half games, it is nevertheless reassuring to see the longtime captain raring to go as the season starts to kick things up a notch. As for Tel, he will most likely provide impetus off the bench, which could be crucial as the English weeks start piling up.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the mega-matchup between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this weekend? Pre-Season Friendly1.FC Duren v FC Bayern Munchen Bayern could really use some defensive depth right now. | Photo by ANP via Getty Images Positive injury news? Is this a dream? Bayern Munich is quite thin at the defensive end at the moment, with Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae starting every game and almost enjoying sole ownership of their respective positions. It could be nice to have some reinforcements in the fray outside of Eric Dier, who might not be getting as much game time due to his relatively low recovery pace. This might be about to change soon.According to a report from @kessler_philipp as captured by @iMiaSanMia, we might be in for some good news on the injury front. Hiroki Itō, signed from VfB Stuttgart for around €23 million plus add-ons, is close to making a return to team training. Hiroki Itō is hoping to resume training before the end of this month [@kessler_philipp] pic.twitter.com/Uo2NEkRSry— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) September 25, 2024The player has been an absolute rock for Stuttgart over the past few seasons, and Bayern will certainly benefit from his return. His fleet-footedness and decision making could make him a valuable part of the defensive rotation. The injury gods seem to be in good spirits... for once.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the mega-matchup between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this weekend? SSV Ulm 1846 v FC Bayern München - DFB-Pokal Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Is this the dream team right now? Bayern Munich needed a response to their first trophyless season in 12 years and they have done so by bringing in João Palhinha and Michael Olise to reinforce two key positions on the team. Now that both players have played with Harry Kane, the Englishman couldn’t help but praise both of his teammates.“Two fantastic players first and foremost. I think they suit our system really well,” Kane said (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “Pal [Palhinha] is an animal in that defensive midfield role. I’ve had many battles against him. He tackles, he intercepts, he reads the game really well - so he’s a great addition.“Michael’s ability on the ball is fantastic”, the former Tottenham Hotspur man continued. “The way he moves, the way he goes around players - and his final product is at a high, high level. And he’s still very young, so there’s even more improvement to come. Great additions to the squad. All that does is push each other to be more motivated and have more competition for places.”

SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images One more day until Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen... Barca, LFC, City keeping close watch on Kimmich situation (The Hard Tackle)Many are expecting Bayern Munich to eventually reach an agreement on a new contract with Joshua Kimmich. However, should there be any cracks in the foundation of the relationship between the player and the club, FC Barcelona, Liverpool FC, and Manchester City are all ready and willing to give Kimmich a new home: Joshua Kimmich is ready to consider committing his future to the Bundesliga giants amidst interest from Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City. Hansi Flick is a huge admirer of the German international and wants to once again work with him at Barcelona. The former Bayern Munich manager has already asked the Catalan giants’ chief to push for his services.Manchester City, who recently received a massive blow as Rodri picked up a long-term injury, have realised they lack depth in the centre of the park. So, Kimmich could be just the perfect fit for them.Liverpool were keen on signing Martin Zubimendi during the summer. They were close to securing his services but he decided to stay put and they are looking at Kimmich as an ideal alternative who will is all set to be available for free in around 10 months time.PSG were also keen on signing him, but they have decided to blackout from the race as per a report from Caught Offside. It is a boost for all other interested clubs who can strike a pre-agreement with the 29-year-old in January. However, Bayern Munich are trying hard to ensure they do not get that opportunity. The German club want to extend his stay before the turn of the calendar. They are pushing hard, and the 29-year-old utility man is ready to consider committing his long-term future to the club.Kimmich’s situation seems like it has cleared up in a big way. Back in the central midfield and in favor under Vincent Kompany, Kimmich — once again — looks settled in with his role. There was a lot of doubt about his future in Bavaria, but for now, it seems like the Germany international is setting himself up for an extended stay. City eyeing midfield replacements for Rodri (TEAMtalk)Losing Rodri was a devastating blow for Manchester City and the club is looking at a few different options, who might be able to help in January: Manchester City have drawn up a four-man shortlist of midfielders to fill the hole left by Rodri’s ACL injury which also includes Barella. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Atalanta’s Ederson and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi have too been identified as targets. X account @FootballTalkHQ captured Pep Guardiola’s comments on the situation. “When a team doesn’t play with the best midfielder in the world for a long, long time, it is a big blow. Yes, he’s irreplaceable. But it’s my job to find a solution. There is an alternative - As a team we have to find a solution,” said the Manchester City boss. Borussia Mönchengladbach v SV Werder Bremen - Bundesliga Photo by Christian Verheyen/Borussia Moenchengladbach via Getty Images Things are moving quickly... Following on from recent reports that Bayern Munich is set to release chief scout Markus Pilawa, it seems that, according to Florian Plettenberg the club has found their replacement in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Nils Schmadtke:Nils Schmadtke is on the verge to become the new overall chief scout of FC Bayern to replace Markus Pilawa. Schmadtke is expected to sign a two-year contract. Max Eberl was determined to bring Schmadtke to Bayern.Nils is the son of Jörg Schmadtke, who has been working as a sporting executive in German football for over 20 years and even had a brief stint at Liverpool FC until earlier this year. @iMiaSanMia captures Philipp Kessler confirming this report, while offering some context: Nils Schmadtke is expected to replace Markus Pilawa as Bayern chief scout. Pilawa was appointed by Salihamidžić and Neppe in 2022. Before that he spent 10 years in Dortmund where he was instrumental in signing the likes of [Jadon] Sancho and [Jude] Bellingham. Pilawa also played a role in the transfer of Michael Olise to Bayern in the summer. Nevertheless, Eberl and Freund have other ideas about the personnel.Schmadtke, most recently Gladbach sporting director, was head of the scouting department at [VFL] Wolfsburg from October 2020 to summer 2023. At that time, the club signed the likes of Micky van de Ven and Felix Nmecha. Schmadtke and Eberl have known each other from their time together in Gladbach. Their paths are now set to cross again at FC Bayern.Of course, comparing the signings of Sancho, Bellingham and Olise to the ones of van de Ven and Nmecha is misleading, considering the disparity in resources between Dortmund and Bayern to Wolfsburg. And the time Schmadtke and Eberl spent together in ‘Gladbach amounted to one year between 2019 and 2020 as a regular scout. Apparently, that year was enough for Eberl to be completely convinced by Schmadtke. But Schmadtke may not be the only new hire at Bayern. André Hechelmann may be joining the club as well: Bayern are restructuring the club’s scouting department. After parting ways with chief scout Markus Pilawa, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are pushing ahead with the personnel changes. Nils Schmadtke, who is set to replace Pilawa as chief scout, could get support from André Hechelmann, former Schalke technical and sporting director as well as Mainz chief scout. At the moment, Hechelmann is just being considered for a role at Bayern, among other namesHechelmann took up important sporting positions at Schalke 04 from 2021 to 2024, which is perhaps not the best job advert as the famous club lurched from one crisis to another. Real Madrid CF v VfB Stuttgart - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD1 Photo by Diego Souto/Getty Images The backup keeper is earning his keep while starring on loan at VfB Stuttgart. Will he get his chance in Bavaria? German goalkeeper Alexander Nübel’s tenure at Bayern Munich has been a strange one — namely in that it has not really even begun.Since signing from then-Bundesliga club Schalke 04 on a free ahead of the 2020/21 season, Nübel has waited his turn behind veteran Manuel Neuer and gone on a succession of loan tours elsewhere. That’s a long time for someone apparently anointed the heir apparent. But despite occasional friction, Bayern and Nübel have found a way to make the arrangement work, including even a five-year contract extension this past spring after at one point seemingly wanting out of Munich. According to reporting from Sport Bild, the terms of the new deal aren’t half bad — for Bayern or for Nübel’s loan club, VfB Stuttgart. Via @iMiaSanMia:Alexander Nübel’s Bayern salary is worth around €10m gross per year. Bayern are currently covering around two thirds of his salary while he’s on loan at Stuttgart. VfB are paying him €3.5m per year. This deal was negotiated between both clubs and Nübel’s representatives in April when he extended his Bayern contract and was loaned out to Stuttgart [@SPORTBILD]Nübel remains under contract at FC Bayern through 2029, while Neuer’s runs through this season only — though talks for a renewal are expected in the spring. FBL-FRA-LIGUE1-NICE-MONTPELLIER Photo credit should read VALERY HACHE/AFP via Getty Images Let’s get the 2013 crew back together. Lahm, Schweini, Javi, Ribery, Robben, some blonde guy from Madrid, everybody! Back in 2023, Bayern Munich were dealing with a severe injury crisis and the club’s decision to go into the season with just three senior center-backs was heavily criticized. The board realized reinforcements were needed, but had to pick the right player. They eventually settled on Eric Dier and he was great, but it could have been so much better...If you believe the report from Philipp Kessler, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern considered signing former defender Dante, treble winner with Bayern in 2013, before getting Dier: Back in January when Eric Dier was signed, Bayern had briefly discussed bringing back Dante to the club for six monthsThere are two possibilities here: Either the Bayern bosses read BFW or they copied from Pep Guardiola’s handbook again. Regardless, his would have been an interesting signing, as he would have added to his two short but extremely eventful years, including that treble in 2013 and that famous quote by Guardiola, to his time at Bayern, especially considering his advanced age. Yes, Dante is 40-years-old now (his 41st birthday is in less than a month away) and he’s older than Philipp Lahm who has been retired from football for seven years now, but he is playing in a Top 5 league and competing in European tournaments. Cristiano Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer, eat your hearts out.Of course, Bayern went with Dier and he became a crucial part of Bayern Munich’s run to the Champions League semifinals. But what could have been if Bayern had gone with Dante? We will never know...Looking for more thoughts and analysis on the mega-matchup between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this weekend? SV Werder Bremen v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga The man of the moment. | Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images This is absolute music to the ears. We need to pen this man down at all costs. Seal all the toilets. Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala has the world at his feet. He is arguably one of the best footballers in the world, and possibly the best inverted left-winger at the moment. The player has no price tag because he is invaluable to Bayern. It is no surprise that the club want to extend him at all costs.Well, guess what? Contract talks seem to have begun, and it seems like both parties are in good spirits. According to Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), the club has expressed its appreciation, and the player’s camp seems to be happy with the situation. The start of negotiations between Bayern and Jamal Musiala was positive - there was a good conversation last week in Munich. Both sides have the same goals for the future. Bayern made it clear to Musiala how much they appreciate him [@_kochmaximilian] pic.twitter.com/LWfj5ZrYue— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) September 25, 2024The club will undoubtedly do all it can to avail his services long-term. It is likely that the attack is structured around the player, so it only makes sense to put pen to paper as soon as possible. With players like Paul Wanner and Aleksandar Pavlović also in Bayern’s future plans, and Florian Wirtz rumoured to be a major transfer interest, things seem to be shaping up quite nicely for a seamless transition. We now lie in wait and place our faith on the Bayern board.
